  1. You don't use ATM's ever? No debit card with your bank?

I won't use an ATM either! I also never hand over my card for a payment unless I can see the transaction in front of me.

On my many cruises to non-dollar countries, I always obtain the local currency because

    a) I like to use some of the left-over notes/coins in my photo albums

    b) I like to tip in the local currency. I have been a tour guide in the past and yes, tips are tips ----but I much prefered to receive GB£. Go to the Valley of the Kings in Egypt: the locals have plenty of change in pounds and dollars; however, they can't use the money because the banks won't accept coins.

    c) I watched an American pay $16 for a can of fizzy orange near Port Said, Egypt... I had the local money and paid about 30 cents.

Each to their own, I guess!

  2. Thanks Sir William.

I tried your suggestion but it didn't work for me. perhaps that's because we're in the UK.

I called X and was given a temporary password which allowed me 24 hours to access my 'new' pages. I am now into my a/c and have set up my own password.

  3. If you look at the thread entitled ‘New Drinks Menu’ you will see that Newcastle Draft has been added on the Journey (so presumably on the other ships too).

    Ah, Newkie Brown ----or 'dog'!

It's a move in the right direction -----but still a way to go before reaching craft ales.

  4. Does anyone else think the OP's post was a wind up? - interesting that they haven't come back on here to clarify their position

We've only done one cruise and it was on Solstice in March / April.

We had 3 tender ports and the tender process was great..... apparently the captain said if he can get 2800 people off the ship in under 3 hours then that's a good thing.

We thought the entertainment was fantastic - along with the food / service and that's why we've booked another cruise

I don't want to book a cruise on another cruise liner in case we are disappointed they don't meet the great experience we had on Solstice.

There is a reason that the OP has not returned: we Scots are proud of our Viking links.

Do not post any derogatory remarks about Lerwick.... or we'll climb into our long boats and be at your door before you can say, 'Pillage!'

The OP has already found this to be true!

  5. Hi

We're new to Azamara. We've been on many Celebrity cruises and Princess cruises before them.

Now we're booking a long cruise on the Journey.

Question: Would you say that it is better to be right at the aft or forward? We've read about noise/vibration at both ends.

    Thanks.

  6. The ones provided on the ship--unless they changed them since I last had them--are rather small and lack power...

For a really great, but lower cost, binocular, my favorite by far is the Bushnell Perma-Focus:

    http://www.bushnell.com/wildlife/binoculars/perma-focus

I first bought a pair of these when they were originally developed by a company called Jason...Fell in love with them...Bushnell eventually bought out Jason and now produces them in various sizes...I've since replaced my original pair with a Bushnell version...I have the 10x50...which have 10X magnification and a nice, wide 50X lens that lets in a lot of light...plus, they have a nice wide field of view (over 390 feet at 1000 feet)...

The great thing about them is that, somehow, they never need to be adjusted or focused...I just hold them to my eyes and they're perfectly clear at any distance (well, not "any"--but you don't need them for stuff that's close up)...and I actually need corrective lenses for distance--but I use these WITHOUT my glasses and they are magically in focus!

Fabulous lenses, then! My pair, from a WW2 German submarine, also have such lenses.

  7. Hi

We'll be Elite Plus after our next X cruise, 2019. We'd like to do an Azumara cruise to Cuba in 2020.

    a) Do we accrue points on the Azumara cruise that will be added to our X balance?

    b) How will Azumara reward our Elite Plus X status? What are the benefits?

    Thanks.

  8. The concierge cabin will not be able to dine in Luminae except for a fee. You will have to let them know in advance. Blu they will not be able to dine in. Michaels Club maybe. It all depends on who the host is on your sailing.

If I were you, I would book 2 Sky Suite cabins if you are going to splurge on a Royal Suite. This way you can all dine together and go to Michaels Club. You will be able to sit together in the Theater on Chic Nights for the preferred seating as well.

    Great advice! Love it!

  9. Has anyone dined in Luminae in Reflection and another S class ship? We were on Reflection in the fall and the service was excellent although a little slow and it was crowded. We’re on Equinox next week and was wondering if it’ll be less crowded with half the suites?

We've been in a CS on Silhouette twice and a SS on Reflection once ----as well as sailing on the connie twice.

Both of us loved Luminae every time. Yes, we ate in other restaurants once in a while ----but Luminae worked for us!

Michael's Club: the success of this venue depends so much on the concierge! If he/she is proactive in advertising intimate musical events and so on, the suite guests (and Zeniths, Charles!) flock in to enliven the club.

Like so many, we don't have £££ $$$ to splash out ----we save hard for something special!

So, I would advise you to try a suite ----and if it doesn't work out.... well, 'Tomorrow's another day'.

  10. I don’t see any VIKING cruisers mocking the elderly. Why would we most of us are elders ourselves, although our bodies may wear marks of our many years, doesn’t mean our spirits do as well.

I tell people all the time that just because I was born a long time ago, doesn’t mean I’m old [emoji12]

I’ve been considering Celebrity because they have ships sailing out of my home port, but I’m beginning to think not so much consideration is warranted.

    Well said!

There are plenty of young elders! Sadly (?) there are also plenty of old youngsters! I know which I'd prefer to be.

As a 61 year old, I'm looking forward to my 7th birthday!

  11. A word of warning - I noticed many times on our cruise last week that bartenders and waiters would sub wines without telling me if they didn't happen to have the wine listed on the menu. They are very good at keeping the label turned away from you so you can't see exactly what they're pouring. We had the premium package so I wasn't paying upcharges, but if I had been paying upcharges on each glass I would have been pretty irritated if they subbed a cheaper wine for the more expensive one I was charged for. It irritated me with the premium package only because it seems like a sneaky way for them to save money, but as long as I liked the wine I didn't make a fuss.

Sorry, what does 'upcharge' mean? I'm guessing that it is an American expression...

  12. All good points so far, one other thing that we really appreciate and even have said "that was worth every penny of the added cost for a suite" is debarkation. We'll go to Michaels, enjoy some conversation or a last drink, coffee, soda or something stronger, then when we're ready to go the concierge takes a group down, we all pick up our bags in a designated area and then walk right past the lines waiting for a customs agent, to a separate agent who quickly checks things out and we're out on our way to our transportation. Whole process takes less than 5 minutes including picking up our bags.

Lawrence, the English Michael's Club concierge, did that for us on one occasion and a queuing passenger took exception and hit him!

  13. Where does the hump of a camel start and finish?

Considering all staterooms on the hump, there should also be thought given to the amount of breeze the poster enjoys. We've always had Celebrity suites when we've been on the Silhouette and Connie. Sometimes we have chosen a forward-facing one and sometimes we selected aft-facing.

  14. King size, queen size, quadruple emperor size.... it all depends where you are in the world! A king size in the USA may not be a king size elsewhere.... etc.

Measurements are the only accurate way of compaing beds.

We were in a Signature Suite last summer and the bed seemed huge compared with our bed at home.

  15. In your situation we would book Romecabs (we like this outfit) and have them pick us up around 7:30. You will likely be at your hotel before 9. Keep in mind that most things in Rome are not even open that early...so there is little reason to go much earlier.

    Hank

    Yes, Romecabs seem reliable.

We opted for a private transfer using them last August. Off the ship at 08:30 and we were at the Rome Terminus to catch our train to Venice by 09:30.
