  1. I was thinking the same when I saw this cruise with MSC. They have a cruise described as, "Jamaica to the Virgin Islands." The itinerary is, "Ocho Rios; Cartagena; Enter Panama Canal At Cristobal; Puerto Limon; Belize City; Freeport, Bahamas." I'm still trying to work out which of those ports of call is in the Virgin Islands.

  2. I appreciate that tipping is a hot topic on the boards but, as somebody from the other side of the pond, the question has to be asked. Sorry!

In Europe we do not tip US style, but personally I do accept it as part of your culture and behave appropriately.

On the subject of Uber (we do not have LYFT), we are told that the price we are quoted is the price that we pay and we should not tip. In fact, my sister in London says that, whenever she has tried to tip an Uber driver he has handed it back.

Thanks to the good advice on these boards we have decided to Uber from MIA to PoM and would like advice on tipping. Do we or not? If we do, what is the norm?

A genuine question people. I'm not trying to start WWIII here.

  3. A friend has a hotel and transfer booked for her cruise on Epic from Barcelona departing 16 July. She has been informed that they will not be picking her party up from the hotel until 4 p.m. but they were hoping to board before that.

Is it possible to cancel this booking and would there be any cancellation charges? The only reference I can find on the NCL site refers to cruise bookings only.

    Thanks in advance.

  4. Thanks so much. They came through great for me. Helps a lot since I haven't been on NCL before. Do they hand out information about the ports? on other lines I thought some info like the weather, port agent, etc. came out on the dailies, but I don't see that here. (not that I need to see it, just curious how it works)

Hi Emily. Yes, each Daily is actually four pages long, but I only scanned the one page in that you have for each day. I will scan all four pages for one day to give you an idea of what is included. It will probably be done tomorrow now.

  5. I stand corrected, I looked it up on google once again and they only mention from Europe indeed. Not sure where I read that, or maybe my mind just made that part up. I guess they won't be able to implement this in the grand time span of 6 days so I'll reconsider bringing my Surface tablet along. It's also easier to store my photos on there as opposed to my phone (and it's limited storage capability). Thanks for clearing that up! :)

You're welcome. Have a great trip.

  6. I believe the articles I read mentioned both inbound and outbound flights. I'd rather not take the risk and I'll stick to my phone. I've got the Netflix app on there and I downloaded a bunch of series and movies so I'll be fine. There's always the in flight entertainment (were flying United as mentioned above but I believe our plane still has the screens in the seat back in front of you, I downloaded the app just to be safe!). Traveling across the pond is so much fun sometimes ;p

Of course you will wish to make your own judgement Yunah, but do take in to account the content of this article from Reuters:

You will only read the words "from Europe".

In addition this possible extension to the ban from other countries to the US is only under discussion at the moment. From that article, one of the items they have to assess is how much notice to give airlines to introduce this increase in ban.

  7. We're leaving for NYC next week (and flying out to Miami for our cruise and back to the Netherlands via Germany after) and I'm a bit apprehensive about taking my tablet along for watching movies while on board the planes. They might not introduce the ban before next Thursday but it might have been introduced by the time we fly back...

As I understand it, this only applies to flights going to the US and not the return.

  8. Thanks very much. The weather was good and I finished at about 6.30 this morning after about 22 hours walking. I'm on the ferry back now. Thanks for your support.

OMG - how many hours?! Well done Keith and how amazing that you reached your target.

Well done also to Robert and how generous. Mind you I used to receive only two shillings and sixpence a week pocket money. You might need to Google that Robert!

  9. I'm not sure whether I'm allowed to do this. If not then hopefully the Mods will just delete this post rather than the whole thread.

Anyway, as I mentioned a few times during this thread, a feature of our cruise was my training for the sponsored walk I am doing this weekend. I am just getting everything together to head off for it (posting the dailies will have to wait until next week I'm afraid).

I'm having a last push for sponsorship, so will just post the link. I'm sure that people who know me on here will appreciate that I post to try to help people make the most of their holidays, and there is no ulterior motive to try to get people to support me, but it's a great cause so if anyone fancies donating anything then it would be greatly appreciated.

Feel free to ignore this if you don't think it's appropriate.

Just want to wish you all the best for your walk tomorrow Keith and hope that you have some decent weather.

To all other forum members, Keith is walking for a very worthy cause in Macmillan Cancer Support and I do hope that you can find it in your hearts to support him. Keith has a target to raise £2000 and is getting soooo close to achieving it. Let us all remember the amazing contribution that Keith makes to these boards. Please support him now and see if we can crash through that target.

  10. Perhaps the highlight was my wife waking me at 4am when she realised that she had packed all her clothes in the bags that we had left out (they don't allow self walk off in Venice). Luckily, we were able to find the bags in the storage area, so the crisis was averted.

Love it Keith. Sounds like you were not the only one to drink too much!

I hope your return home goes smoothly and look forward to the "round-up" once you have recovered.

  11. Hi Keith

Glad to hear your trip is going well

If you are able to post any pictures of the dailies when you get home that would be appreciated. One from a sea day and one from a port day would give an idea of the sorts of things on offer if that's possible.

    Thank you

    Sarah

    Hi Sarah

We are on the same itinerary as you but a month earlier. Anything that Keith cannot manage, I will try to cover for you.

    Colin

  12. He's 11.

Yes, it's really nice that we can give him the opportunity to see these places. However, we have to work to make sure that he gets the best out of it. I live in fear of him having memories of being dragged round places all through his childhood. That can put people off things for life.

We're lucky as we get the chance to travel with him a lot so we can make decisions on individual ports and not fill every day up. For example, one of the deciding factors for not going to Jerusalem is that it's a 10 hour tour and that can be hard work for kids. We do it when we need to (we did a full day in St Petersburg last year), but prefer to do shorter days if possible.

Your lad is not just receiving education on different lifestyles and cultures. You are also making sure that he is learning that if you want the finer things in life, then you have to work for them.

The first time that I wanted to join a school trip, my parents said now way as they could not afford it. They did say that I could go but that I would have to work for it. Many paper rounds and the like later and I had enough money. I had no idea what they were planning, but they matched my savings £ for £ to cover my spending money. A great lesson learned.
