  1. I have seen conflicting information. Sis and I are about to start packing for our cruise and she wants to get the over the door organizer. We didn't really use it long ago on our previous cruises. I thought I had seen that we couldn't use them anymore. Can they be hung over the closet or bathroom door instead of the cabin door or are they completely not allowed?

  2. I am looking into the early preparation for booking my next cruise. I strongly desire to sail the Southern Caribbean and I really want to see sea turtles. These are two things that I have yet to experience on any of my cruises. Any recommendations for a great place to go to do this? Also do not want to fly to San Juan so which ship/port is a good place to leave from?

  3. We just booked for November. I agree, some awesome prices going on right now...just not as awesome as we got when the ship first came out (we had 2 studios, double the space, double the facilities and all for $1600). :)

    What sailing did you book?

  4. I have been on two cruises, both on Carnival and getting ready for my third. I saw some advertisements for some package deals on NCL and was thinking about booking either the Epic or the Gem. Could you please offer some experiences on either? And the differences between the two lines? I am not a big "partyer" but I do like entertainment and love cruising for the foodand ports of call. Thanks!

  5. I think they're pretty comparable. I've been on NCL Gem twice, many more carnival cruises. If the price was right, we would easily go back to NCL, but lately when we check the prices, NCL is usually more expensive, even with the freebies thrown in.

I found the shows on NCL to be much better than carnival, but I do like the comedy club on carnival. The MDR food was maybe a touch better than carnival, but I wasn't impressed with the specialty restaurants on NCL. I think the service on carnival was friendlier overall, and the rooms are better on carnival, with a more comfy bed. Though any difference isn't enough to make me go with carnival vs NCL. If the price was right on NCL and they were going where we wanted to go we would easily go with them again.

Gem is the other ship itinerary I was looking at. What can you tell me about her?

  6. Some of these might be repeated but this is what i had learned my first time cruising alone (had gone when I was younger with my mom)..

~Bring a surge protector/power strip, there's usually only one outlet, so if you need to charge phones/cameras/kindle, etc you're going to need it!

You CANNOT have a power strip with a surge protector. It must be a regular strip/cord. There is a new thread on this topic on this board.

  7. While I haven't sailed on Carnival yet (looking at the Vista for 2017), I am 38 and I have been on NCL Epic and going on the Escape in April. The entertainment is so good on the newer NCL ships. Lots of nighttime outdoor dance parties at Spice H20 on the Aft deck of the ship, comedians, broadway-type shows, crowd participation shows, trivias, etc.

    You'll never be bored!

Epic is actually one of the ships I was looking at. Could you tell me a little bit more about it?

  8. NCL is having some really good booking perks right now and it actually lured me to check out the site. Can some experienced cruisers give me the difference between the two lines? I am 38 if that helps and cruise usually with my 36 y/o sister. We aren't typically party people, but we love exploring ports and having a few drinks. We like comedians and entertainment. So any help would be great! Thanks!

  9. Seriously though, why is this even a "thing"? I understand the desire to pack light. If you don't want to dress up, just don't eat in the MDR that night. It's called elegant night for a reason. Some of us think it is FUN to dress up and get glamorous. Non one is making you participate. I'm not trying to be rude or get flamed, but why are there always questions about this?

  10. Looking to get a waterproof hip pack type bag for our cruise. Has anyone used the Blue Sky Basics hip belt? Found it on Amazon and the reviews are quite good. Just wanted to know if anyone had one or something else they would recommend. Plan to use it for IDs, cash and sign & sail card. Don't plan to take the phone into port so that won't be an issue. Thanks in advance for any help!

  11. Do they have free coffee at the coffee shop or only the specialties you pay for? Is the only place to get coffee from room service? Is there creamer available? I can't say that I was a big coffee drinker when I cruised before, but now I gotta have it in the morning.
