It’s a funny place the Old World 😀

It’s fairly obvious, if slightly jarring, for your dates, but something like today which is 8/6 here and 6/8 there can get v confusing….

    Absolutely!

Please don’t do this - the port is Southampton, not S. Hampton or South Hampton (or even as we occasionally see Southhampton…)

That’s not just being pedantic, it’s important when searching and booking things! Likewise, to avoid confusion in the rest of the world, it helps to spell out your dates, rather than use the anachronistic American layout 🤣

Thank you!  Those are 2 things I didn't even consider.

  3. Thank you all!  This gives me some great information, but leaves me with a few thoughts.

We are definitely planning to do the D-Day site visit.  As a heads-up for anyone traveling in the area around that time like @mskaufman, I just realized that the 2024 Olympics will be in Paris starting around that time, so we will certainly be avoiding the area.

How far ahead can you book the cruise excursions?  I definitely want to make sure we get the Normandy sites.  That is largely why I picked this itinerary.

  4. Thank you all for the advice.  This is my 2nd cruise, my first was to the Bahamas.  This time I will be traveling with my mother-in-law who has cruised many times, but leaves the planning up to me.  I did create the roll call, because I remember that being super helpful with my first cruise, but like you said, it's a long way out, I'm just a planner lol

    Our itinerary is:

    Cork on Tuesday 7/16/24

    Dublin on Weds. 7/17/24

    Belfast on Thurs. 7/18/24

    Glasgow on Fri. 7/19/24

    Orkney Islands on Sun. 7/21/24

    Invergordon on Mon. 7/22/24

    Edinburgh on Tues. 7/23/24

    Paris/Normandy on Thurs. 7/25/24

    S. Hampton on Fri. 7/26/24

Thank you for the information on the distances from port.  That's definitely good to know.

  5. What are opinions on excursions?  Should we stick with the cruise company’s excursions or can we research our own?  We will be on the Regal Princess in the British Isles in July 2024.  I would love to hear any and all suggestions!  Thank you! 😊

  6. I called NCL this evening. It took many different calls and a long hold time (last day of the month?) but I was finally able to have our cabin moved to 9016. Is that an improvement? I sure hope so!

  7. Hi Everyone! I'm a little (ok a LOT) confused and just want to ask a few (probably rambling) questions.

Basic info: My hubby and I are booked on the 6/25 Gem cruise from NY to Florida and Bahamas. I really wasn't sure what to book when I reserved, and after factoring "deals" (free drink package) we wound up with the guaranteed balcony. This trip probably won't be a ONCE in a lifetime event, but it's definitely going to be one of our biggest/most luxurious experiences. I have pretty much booked everything I can ahead of time (romance and anniversary packages- it's for our tenth anniversary- meal package, thermal passes and service fees). Final payment has been made and now I notice that we have been assigned a cabin (8028). I read up on rooms in that area and they don't sound the greatest... So my question is this:

Is that definitely the room we will have or is it possible it may change as we get closer to the cruise?

If I don't want to take the risk, can I upgrade?

If I do upgrade and go to a mini-suite that has 2 free offers, can I drop my prepaid meals or do I have to keep it (in which case I guess I'd just pick another freebie).

Would I be charged anything for making changes at this point (not downgrading or cancelling)?

I'm sorry for such a weird post, but I really just want this trip to be the best and I will do whatever I need to to ensure that (within reason)!

    Thanks in advance!!![emoji3][emoji925][emoji924]

  8. Hi everyone! Yesterday I bit the bullet and booked a cruise for our 10th Anniversary (albeit belated). Neither my husband nor myself have ever cruised but many of our friends are avid cruisers. Based on their advice and what works best with our schedule, we will be sailing on the Norwegian Gem to Fl and the Bahamas on June 25, 2016. I am looking forward to this trip for so many reasons - I love traveling but usually pack the days so full with running around that I come home more in need of rest than when I left. Judging from everything I'm reading here, it doesn't sound like that will be a concern (if it is, it will be my own fault!). Being that we have NO cruise experience and I am an extreme OCD/Type A personality, I need information/advice of all types. Thank you all in advance!
