  1. Paperbooks are ok, but I listen to Audiobooks! Its so much less work, I don't wanna do all that page turning while I'm on vacation! I think the Dan Brown books are good ones for a trip, and you can't go wrong with Harry Potter, he'll give you something to talk about onthe ship cause almost everyone and their uncle has read those. Put them in your MP3 player and you are good to go!

I have tried the audio books, my fiance loves them, but for me, there is just something about having a book in your hands, and flipping the pages. But we are going on a long trip next month, so I will probably borrow one from the library to keep us company on the road.

  2. Family was all excited about our first cruise, packed a week ahead of time. Checked and rechecked the list. Got to the ship, started filming with our brand new video camera. Battery light comes on.....can't recharge it. Packed it away for the remainder of the cruise. Good time not video to show family.

That reminds me of the story of my future father in law on the family trip to Disney World. He kept pressing the "off" button every time he wanted to turn the camera "on", and vice versa, so the only footage they have of Disney World is the ground, shot when he thought the camera was "off"!

  3. Don't know what to make of it. In 1993 I took my first cruise aboard Carnival Holiday with two friends. It was a graduation gift from our parents.

The last night on board we were walking around when we heard a group of people by the aft pool. They were college age and were laughing like hyenas. When I asked what was so funny they replied, "just watch" They the preceded to grab lounge chair after lounge chair and fling them off the back of the ship.

Being young & foolish we didn't report them but instead high tailed it back inside!

I will never understand how people can think destruction is funny!

  4. We were on the first night of a cruise once when a young couple approached us in obvious distress to ask it we or anyone we knew might have diapers that they could use until they could buy some. Their luggage was lost by the airline, and they had exhausted the supply that they had brought in their diaper bag. Unbelievably, the ship had none - none in shops, none in the infirmary, none in the kid's care groups. And the next day was a sea day. Boy did we feel sorry for them!

    That poor couple! Terrible!

  5. Hi, KenandLaura06. Looks like you and I are on alot of the same boards. We need more people posting, and more topics! Bet you are really busy with the wedding plans.

    Hi Maria-

I love these boards! I am a teacher on summer vacation, so I have a little more spare time than usual and have decided to become an expert on cruises before next summer.

  6. I have just read the whole thread today, and my coworkers wondered what an earth I was doing with all the chuckling going on 'til I started emailing bits.

Reading the story about the "husband and wife game" about the where did you... made me think about the one we had on our last cruise. They had 3 couples one on their honeymoon (second marriage so they had teenage kids) fairly regular couple in their 40s and the longest married couple (I think over 50 years).

Of course they asked the question so when was the last time....? Newlyweds was 2 weeks ago!, couple 2 yesterday or this week. But what brought the house down was the straightlaced grandparents who proudly announced this morning!

    Good for them!

  7. I have had a similar experience twice! While unloading our suitcases from our van to board a Carnival cruise in New Orleans, we see a family who lives about 2 blocks from us, whose son played soccer with our son for 8 years. We didn't see much of them on the cruise & might never have noticed if we hadn't arrived at the same time for boarding!

Then, last year on the Golden Princess, I ran into someone I had worked with 3 years previously! Small world, huh?

P.S. This also happened to us at Disneyworld!

We were bobbing in the ocean in Myrtle Beach (700miles from home) and suddenly someone from our church bobbed right past us!!! I also bumped into someone I went to high school with on South Beach in Miami!

  8. On A HAL cruise. (I didn't see it, my sister did) A man and a woman got into an arguement and he decked her. Yep right there at the pool. He punched her dead in the face. She fell back and over a lounge chair. Several passengers ran to her aide. When the woman got up my sister said she thought she broke her arm. Not to mention a big black eye. Anyway the next day (a sea day) there was luggage packed up and sitting outside the door of one of the cabins on our deck. We thought HAL maybe had put him in the brig.

My sister said it took about ten minutes for security to come. She and several other passengers called several times. They were afraid the man would get away. My sister had to fill out a paper telling what she saw, but she never heard anything after that and we never saw the man or woman again!

    That is so terrible!
