  1. If you’re planning on booking the GV, book the Dawn or Star. The Jewel class ships GVs are nice, but do not even compare to the Star and Dawn.

I would cruise the Star QV each time as long as they UP grade us each cruise as they did once in the past. We had a rear penthouse suite BOOKED and called and asked if we would take the Owners Suite on the BOW, that was a great room.

the next year we booked the same rear penthouse and they once again called to move us to the Owners Suite, told them we loved the room but not the front balcony when underway....windy

I told them that if I would take a GV if not sold yet. She said she had no idea about that cabin but would pass my thoughts to her supervisor.

Well damn if someone didn't call a few days later,

Long story but it was great, and that roll call for that cruise I posted that anyone from CC could visit our cabin and take tour after we set sail. The butler was told that we would be having guests and he and another person set up a food buffet outside on the dinning table drinks, snacks, small other food items.

It was pretty cool stay, we didn't even leave the ship that week, just relaxed on our deck, hottub, sauna, and played in all three beds.

  2. For legal reasons, free should be completely free. If McDonalds offered you free fries with your burger, you get them free, you don't pay taxes or gratuity on them.

Instead of pre-paying gratuity which the NCL waiters NEVER see, just make drink packages completely free with the expectation that you must offer cash tip to the waiters for every single drink. That is more than fair.

NCL is just pocketing the pre-paid gratuity for extra profit like a typical corporation. Your drink package isn't free. It's paying for the Johnny Walker Black Label and coke you ordered.

above someone noted that if the service charge is more than you plan to drink that you should pass on the FREE deal

But like us who rather enjoy a smooth cool beverage multiX a day than its surely a better price tag.

sure make for 2 week TA trips much more FUN:cool:

  4. I'm told that there are people in every single show who quickly exit and are quite vocal with their displeasure.

While finishing up one meal, a passenger at the neighboring table was complaining about the show content and that NCL should be ashamed of itself for not warning families of the theme.

    I know I shouldn't have, but I did.

"Sorry to interrupt, Ms. Keller, but I totally agree. Someone should have informed you."

That person had zero clue who I was . . . until now (is a CC member).

I apologize, but at the time I disagreed with the assessment.

    I should have stayed silent.

I first thought that line number 1 was meaning the show was BAD in the acting

than line two told me it wasn't the show but the content....oh well

and DH doesn't care if he goes to any show any night of the cruise but maybe I will sneak this one in on him

anyway thanks for the nice post of info

    Epic 11/26/2016

  5. Cagney's, Tappenaki

each are great and if you go every other day THEY will know who you are

    14 days 7x each

    on our last TA

we just booked ( three days ago) a quick cruise for 11/26/2016 from Orlando and plan to visit MDR only

we are parking the motorhome and as we don't dress like pigs (jeans) I will not be packing any BLACK SLACKS for me..DH

And I we have in the past tried to wear some what better attire when have plans to eat at any of the specialty restaurants

  6. Keep I mind that they expire in 4 years and you can only use 1 per cabin (not per person and not apply all that you buy towards 1 cruise) . Though sometimes they run a deal where you can use 2 - I think the current one is Europe cruises only.

Two days ago we book a cruise on the epic for 11/26/2016

    Used two coupons

  7. Ok in all of our cruise days I don't recall many rainy days for some reason, and thinking about port calls I sure don't ever remember getting rained out?

But other than the spa pool and hot tub I am willing to say we would have no reason to even get DRESSED.....!

    hubby is all smiles :D

    yep thats the idea!!!

Suite life means ordering meals in and relaxing on balcony

its time to play as newlyweds... :p

    just stay hydrated....

  8. The thing I saw them turning people away for was men wearing shorts. Long pants are required.

ok so my one pair of NON blue jean pants will have to cover for the trip. No shorts at dinner, No tank top tee shirts for men, No ball cap hats, woman can't wear swimwear. Those things are not what I call dress code, now if they wanted a tie, or dress for my wife now screw that.

If your not happy with wearing clothes do as we do, book a suite and dinner in room and don't dress AT ALL.

that that is what I call FREESTYLE

  9. The incident that started this: never, ever had a crew member curse at me & take a step towards me! I was shocked.

Sorry, I totally understand rude service personal, I have fired plenty of them in 25 years. Your right but this being totally wrong but this is only one member of the ship. Removing tip charge has the whole crew at blame.

But we would not have let this go, 1 can and will curse with the best of them. I am known for Customer Service that is #1 and nothing comes before that. And our staff TRY to follow my example.

I would have focused on the crew member ONLY, not the company or ship, but lets say when I talk people have to hear me. Or I just keep talking and if means loudly or give them the same treatment as I received back, CURSE.

I hope that your cruise ended well,

    Jerry

  10. I have two questions:

At today's interest rates, just how much do you think NCL will make on delaying a reimbursement of a few hundred dollars for a month or so?

More to the point: have you already decided that service on your May cruise will be so bad as to warrant your removing the service charges? Sounds to me as though you plan to violate the spirit - if not the letter - of the agreement you entered into with NCL.

    yes they ARE

  11. Good Luck pulling off the surprise.

Putting on the baggage tags will not be the give away.

Checking in may give you away - as suites are given priority over

    other classes of cabins.

When directed to a special waiting area - alert something is up !

A personal escort past other passengers will be hard to ignore.

Depending on how you arrive at your large cabin going by

smaller ones should be eye revealing.

Getting an escort to lunch at Cagney's - what's with this ?

The bottle of champagne or sparkling bubbly - Hummm

waiting in your stateroom ! And the chocolate strawberries !

You got a whole lot of "splaining" to do !

So happy birthday anniversary or whatever the occasion !

Don't forget the towel animals and chocolates with the evening

    turn down service.

Now kiss the wife and fade to black enjoy your suite cruise !

I returned after typing this to say,... wow its a longer story when you type it.. Any way I hope it helps some men plan for a surprise

Our 2nd trip on the Star was a few years past but my husband pulled out the largest shock of my life other than when he asked me to marry him.

The year before we had booked a cruise with some friends and we had a rear balcony suite, our friends had a MINI, NCL called and my husband moved us from the back the DOS in front with the two balcony's while at the same time paying for our friends to get our aft suite from the MINI they booked.

That trip was great and service was wonderful for all 4 of us..

So the next year we said HAY, lets do the Star Again, well we picked the same aft suite and started packing...

Well, I was not told but once again NCL called 5 days before we left and up sold my husband to the Garden Villa, his only requested was that I get to the Villa without me knowing.

Reading some of the above troubles posted seems like that would be issue. But for me who learned to just relax when we travel I missed some of the clues, But some like the faster check in, the butler taking us to our room all happened last year.

My husband was checking us in at the counter and I was just in my own little zone. Anyway as the woman was doing the paperwork must have gotten the 'NOTES' placed in the reservations about 'ME' not knowing anything about our cabin. She waved over some other person to wreathe notes as well. I didn't notice but they both knotted to my husband they got the notes.

So shortly the he we go moving along to the ship, and our ( what I thought was a rear suite) I once again didn't get hint at the time but we entered the elevator and our guide asked for my husbands ROOM KEY. The doors open and and we walked into this what looked like a lounge of some type with a piano and lots of windows over looking the pool.

Then he walked down some hallway and pointed into what looked like to me THREE CABINS.

At this point I was not sure if we were even on the same boat as the year before. This looked nothing like our friends aft suite from last year but maybe I missed something.

It was about this time I asked what was going to be known as the "what" question.

I say, "so these rooms all have access to the same lounge" !!!

He looked at me and replayed ..What? I asked again maybe different. His reply will be burned into my memory.

No, Miss.. this is all one cabin this space is only for you..

Still not really sure if I understood him he now says, do you want to see your Patio...(me thinking balcony)

Look if you havent had the chance to walk the Garden Villa in a cabin crawl, or booked it the first time than You will not understand what I felt.

Its about here I once again showing us the hot tub, sauna, and leading to the upper sun deck.

I had to start asking myself what world was I living, I stopped our guide and once again asked... who has access to this space...

His look was as shocked as mine when he must have caught on that I had no idea of the cabin and the space MY husband booked.

Lets just say I was a little teary eyed.

The last part of his surprise wasn't really a surprise but a shock, he now tells me that he posted here on THIS web page that anyone was welcome to stop by during the sail away. Im thinking ....why!!!

Anyway a good amount of people stopped by and toured our cabin and chatted with us out in the garden area.

Only one thing I will sat about the trip was WOW 7 days isn't enough, the good part was we didn't get off ship at any ports... we had just seen them last year. It was wild sleeping in the three beds. And yes it was more than I could have thought possible.

we leave 4/17/16 on the Star for our first TA in our aft 10726 suite that we have booked two other times. This time no up sell but If they would have called. Im sure he would have said HELL YA

So you guys keep treating your ladies right and keep those up sells a surprise

  12. its been a few years that we have been on the Star. But while we cruised in the DOS once and The Villa, I remember a inside bar that was open for just suite cabins during the day. Or I could be wrong. I have asked this due to our upcoming TA and a quite afternoon lunch with a bar is something I remember. Was that what I remember..

    anyway, missing memory

    Donna

  13. ok is the STAR BAR or what ever its called now open during the day for suite cabins. I seem to remember we had drinks during our past trips maybe in the same place as we had lunch...kind of having a suite lounge

and help with what Im thinking about

just getting ready for our TA
