  1. I've yet to ever stay in a hotel anywhere (nor would I) where a night room needed to be turned into a day room, and then back to a night room.

When we started cruising, the two sofas, along the walls, were put together or set up as twin beds at night, then returned to wall couches. There was no bed in the middle of the room, even though the standard rooms were still 185 square feet.

These days you still have rooms with convertible couches, and beds that come from the walls or even the ceiling, as well as trundle beds. These all require twice a day service.

And still those of us that enjoy dress up and turn down service in the standard cabins. The living space is extremely small to even compare to a hotel room.

    Exactly this.

While I do enjoy having twice a day service, we do keep our room tidy (a must when you have 4 in an interior room!) and would be OK with once a day only service, except for the beds. Unless the bunks are folded up each morning, it's virtually impossible to move through the room during the day. Ant then, of course, they have to be folded back down at night...

  2. My kids (11 & 7) have done a decent bit of shore snorkeling and really enjoy it. They are both strong swimmers as well.

We're cruising again next month and I'm toying with the idea of booking a snorkeling excursion in Belize, but at their age I'm not sure it's worth it quite yet.

Those of you that snorkel with kids, at what age did you find they could handle (and enjoy) open water snorkeling as opposed to shore snorkeling?

  3. Closer (less expensive taxi), and with no real beach is the Money Bar - offering good snorkeling from the shore (you enter the water via steps). Rental gear available, good facilities, food, service, etc.

Let them wear themselves out while you sip one more margarita!

I would love some more information on this! Is there snorkeling gear available for rent or do you have to bring your own? How much does it cost to get into this beach?

    Thanks!

  4. We want to snorkel the reef and possibly the shark area with our kids (ages 11 and 1 month shy of 8).

Ship snorkel excursions require kids to be 8.

Any good recommendations for private excursions that would allow my youngest to snorkel as well?

  5. I play blackjack only. No slots. I was told that i don't get points. that my offers and comps are based in win/loss. Does anyone here who only plays blackjack know if they have points??

My husband & I are BJ players only (but he's the big player, I just pass the time with him playing minimum hands, LOL) and I've been told table play is calculated based on time spent at the table & average bet. It's not based on points like at the slots, but it is possible to get good comps even from table play.

Our past 3 cruises have been booked using some really great casino rates, which came with some free chips. On our last cruise in May my husband received his DOU card the first full day, wine, chocolate covered strawberries, steakhouse dinner for 2, and a BB (free cruise offer) - which we are going on in 3 weeks.

Just yesterday he emailed the casino to ask if he's elegible for a DOU card or any other comps upon boarding this next cruise and was told he'd receive a pretty nice monetary comp upon arrival, hopefully that will be in addition to the chips he got an email about a couple of weeks ago.

After he got his email I sent one asking if I was elegible, but I get nada. Lol. Not surprising since I've never even earned a DOU card before, but thought it was worth asking. Haha

Surprisingly, though, we BOTH received premier offers, which we can combine. Even though the rates are close to full fare, the cash we'll receive almost covers the cost of the cruise!

So anyway, that's my long winded response about comps & table play! Good luck!

  6. I wonder if the TA offers that too. I am already looking at 2018. I would like to do February out of PC, but sooo afraid it will be cold and I hate cold. My idea of cruising is NOT cold; that's why I go in May-June. I know I could go to MIami, but that is 10-11 hours away.

We did a February cruise out of Charleston sc a few years back. It was a little cool the first evening and the last evening, but other than that the weather was ideal! Warm enough for the kids to swim in the shop pools and we all were comfortable in the ocean on port days (half moon cay was wonderful!) it was nice being there when it wasn't incredibly hot!

To account for the weather, we all wore jeans boarding and took light weight sweaters (hoodies for the kids). Wore that the first and last days. The rest was shorts & tanks!!

  7. Maybe one of those little drawstring backpacks that fold up really small. We always pack a couple for our port days since they take up no room in the luggage. We actually have a couple of carnival ones and my kids have some from kids camp.

  8. We went to cabbage beach in May. Found a taxi driver just on the other side of the port building charging $5/pp. he dropped us off at the public access point. Very easy to find a return taxi as well, plenty outside the public access just waiting for passengers.

  9. Actually, 1 point does not equal $1, it's actually $2.50. BUT, and here's where it gets good, points aren't based on money lost, it's based on money run through the casino, your or the house's.

And if, like many of us here, you're going to spend th money gambling regardless of comps possibly earned, then a "free cruise" is a nice little perk indeed!

  10. ^^ true story!

DH & I are going to gamble regardless, so we might as well do it with someone that's going to give us free fare in an environment that our kids will greatly enjoy as well!! They absolutely love Camp Carnival and almost have to be forced to leave for meals and such!

We're going on a "free" cruise in 3 weeks that only costing us around $600 (for our 2 kids and all port taxes) that's much better than the full fare price of $1500+ and frees up a grand for casino money. We have a set budget for the casino and stick to it. If we come home with any of that money remaining, it's a win for us. If not, it was money well spent on entertainment and a fun getaway for our family.

  11. Table play rating continues to be an elusive mystery, no one seems to know for sure how it's calculated.

On our last cruise there was a blue card holder that played BJ often with my husband, but never for as long or as high of bets. He (blue card guy) didn't receive a DOU card or any other comps, but go a letter for a BB on the last night, while my husband got his DOU early the second day, wine, strawberries, & a steakhouse dinner, but no BB letter and we did not have another cruise booked. We emailed the casino after returning home and he was given a BB code at that time.

We also both recieved premiere offers this time (PC 5 for hubby and PC9 for me), honestly I am shocked I got an offer. I am a very small player and have never once gotten a DOU card or any comps at all.

So basically, I think the casino offers are a crap shoot, especially for table players. They seem to follow no logic as far as I can tell.
