  1. We have 10days on Marina in June, but with allergies I’m concerned about possibly having a cabin that had a dog or cat prior to our arrival. Or during the sailing though the room issue is bigger. I saw someone referenced a guest feeding their dog onboard and got me wondering. Thanks.

    Yes only on spa deck

If you are in  a Concierge  or higher cabin cat you have free access  to the spa deck

You can ask the spa manager for  a day pass  for  a fee

T pool= thalassotherapy  is on Riviera   the Marina have hot tubs on the spa deck

Thank you. We are on Marina but a hot tub in Scandinavia could be nice!

  3. Is any of the entertainment worth returning to the ship for on late nights in port? I think we have a couple ports where we are docked until 10 pm.  Unless there’s some amazing restaurant on shore (which seems unlikely with our itinerary) I’d not want to miss a dinner onboard.

On those late nights does anyone return to shore after dinner for awhile? Again, I do t think our itinerary makes it likely, just curious mainly.

  4. We typically like to have dinner later, definitely not before 7 pm.  Can someone talk about the entertainment on Oceania, what sort of evening shows they offer and timing? When do you get a sense of the schedule, so making reservations in the specialty restaurants doesn’t conflict with something good?  Too optimistic?  Appreciate hearing your thoughts.  Thanks.

You’ve been very kind and I’ve come to realize we will be staying near Oslo and that’ll be great. I was able to buy the concert tickets from a friend of a friend, so I’m excited about that (not excited that it’s all standing😳🤬) but will be very happy to be there.

im looking forward to reviewing all this again to refresh my memory in early June!  Thanks again.

So sorry for not answering you.... I had answered, but hadn't posted🥴

    Concert

Ticketmaster in Norway has a reselling ticket option. https://www.ticketmaster.no/feature/resale/?int_cmp_name=Ticketmaster-Resale&int_cmp_id=NO-Home-907&int_cmp_creative=Home-featured-3&language=en-us

If someone wants to sell their tickets, they can sell them official and guaranteed its real tickets.

Normally they have some more tickets for sale a few days in advance or the same day online in the morning. They always keep some tickets for companies etc.... When they decline, they put it for sale to the public.

    Fjords of Norway

You will be in Oslo, so you have Oslofjorden. But it can't beat the fjords in western Norway...... It's really something special.

I recommend if you have time to do Norway-in-a-nutshell tour. Just google and you will find a good company that has this trip as a package.

You can take the train both ways or fly back to Oslo. Oslo-Bergen by air is only 50.min

Hope this helps you in your planning!

Thank you, I will probably ask you lots more questions!  I don’t think we will have time for the nutshell tour, our ship disembarks on 1 July 8 am but I have only found early morning Nutshell option, would want to commit to that then miss it by a few minutes.  And we have the concert 2 July and leave Oslo 4 July, so we’d have to get on the 3 July nutshell trip and then catch early flight from Bergen to oslo for flight to London…can’t miss that flight so I don’t think we can swing it.

I have looked at the links for visitoslo, only shows oslofjord 2 hour trips.  If you are aware of any speedy ships that might get us up to western fjords and back we’d be interested in trying that.  Our ship will not go through those fjords….I really messed up with this itinerary.😢

I think a lot of older men wear those type of shoes   they have  support  for our old feet  😉

DH  are similar  but different  make

He also takes  Birkenstock dress shoe  if  space in the suitcase permits 😉

Had no idea there was a Birk dress shoe😳.  His feet are awful (shh but it’s true) so I may just have him bring his dress shoes and deal with it.  If he doesn’t need a jacket we will be golden!

  8. Sadly won’t be able to do the Nutshell trip to Bergen when we disembark in Oslo. Just not enough time.  Are you aware of any “day” type cruise of the fjords starting in Oslo? We could see the Oslofjord but I’m wondering if there’s a secret opportunity to see a bit more in a single day.  Thanks,

Don’t know about "expensive flip flops," but your husband does not need a jacket. However, jeans and sneakers in the MDR or in the specialties would not conform to the dress code, if it's enforced.  You shouldn't be surprised by that, as it's pretty well stated on the O site, and in the numerous threads on CC.

“Expensive” for me, they’re over $100 and don’t look like shower shoes from the dorms lol, have an orthotic type platform and are embellished so they look nice.  I can’t really do heels.

    No jacket required

    depends on the sneakers

DH has  walking shoes that look like a sneaker type shoe  but they are black so might not stand out  like a pr of high tops would  😉

My guy’s are regular white new balance!  He lives in them (should’ve bought their stock decades ago)lol.

  11. Hi there. We are booked into 11023 on Marina, which I thought was underneath the 12th deck Art Loft and would be mostly quiet in the early mornings/late nights.  As I look now, it seams we may actually be under the 12th deck restrooms, not the Art Loft.  Will these be used frequently and be noisy (running water from flushing for example) in early morning/late nights? Another available room on 11 is 14 or 15…they’re a bit forward but have suites above them instead of public spaces.  Should we reconsider our room to take this into account? We’ve not done many cruises and I don’t really know how to judge being forward or aft, just don’t want to be disturbed by noise if we can avoid it.

I truly appreciate your insights.  New to O and so far folks have been very friendly and helpful!  Thanks for that.

  12. Yikes! I wear very expensive “flip flop” type sandals with orthotics everywhere. Am I going to offend someone by wearing them with a dress?  My husband hates wearing a jacket and basically lives in jeans and sneakers, he’s going to be annoyed at having to (a) bring a sport coat and (b) people judging him for wearing the same pair of khaki pants every night.  Wondering if we’ve made a mistake with O.

We have a Kiel stop in June, too. We decided to do OYO via train, b/c Norwegian's shuttle costs were ridiculous and it gives us flexibility. They really didn't offer much for Kiel - just a couple options for guided tours, plus the 2 shuttles.

Depending on your family's preferences, Hamburg is the better choice for museums. My teens think most museums are boring though, and we didn't have any "must-sees" in either Hamburg or Lubeck.

We decided on Lubeck over Hamburg, b/c it's going to be much easier touring. We have a decent amount of time in port, but with Hamburg, we'd have to travel around a bunch within the city to see various sites. It's not that we're uncomfortable taking mass transit, but I don't want to waste half the day taking trains around. With Lubeck, we're walking from the train station to all the things we want to see, which are all easy walking distance to each other; short list is Holstentor gate, Rathaus, St. Mary’s, Niederegger Café, St. Petri.

Oh, and in terms of resources - my starting points were various cruise lines' excursions plus a couple other excursion sites' tours. I used those to build a list of the major attractions that might interest my family. I used google maps to build sample walking tours to give everyone an idea of the length of time, in comparison to the guided tours I used for inspiration.

Thank you, we are leaning towards Lubeck also. I admit the trains make me a little nervous.  But my husband doesn’t like museums and there’s a Jewish component in Lubeck we are interested in.  I appreciate your reply.

Of course it depends a bit, how long you will be in port. The terminal in Kiel is quite centrally in town, as is the central railway station. So either Hamburg or Lübeck are a bit over an hour away by local trains, which run hourly. Schlewsig-Holstein-Ticket gives you unlimited rides on trains in the states of Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg an Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, also (almost) all public transport in Hamburg. Theyre 28 Euro for one person plus 4 Euro for additional persons up to five (44 Euro then).

Hamburg /Lübeck are very different in character. While Hamburg is a million-city with large harbour and a wide choice of museums, well worth more than a couple hours, Lübeck is a fairly compact historical (though in parts rebuilt after the war) trade city on the baltic sea, cosier than Hanburg, more walkable. So this choice is a matter of your personal interests.

Also consider Kiel itself. Though not much historical buildings left in Kiel, the centre is fairly compact and walkable with a wide variety of shops and an interesting marine museum. It is located at the head of a firth ("Kieler Förde"), which allows some sailing on local ferries, eg. to the seaside resort of Laboe with attractive doonthewatter-atmo. Also a u-boat museum there with a visitable WWII-uboat. There are also the locks of the Kiel Channel with surprisingly big ships coming from or sailing inland. Cycleways on either side, so hiring a bike and watch those ships rolling through contryside also gives a nice day out in fine weather.

THANK YOU. This is great information and I truly appreciate the time you took to write it out!

  15. Hi, we have a stop in Kiel, Germany in June and I’m trying to determine what sort of excursion to join or create.  Some go to Hamburg, others go to Lubeck.  Any suggestions on resources to decide which place we might prefer? Trip advisor not much help.  Thanks!

  16. We are on Marina from Southampton-Oslo on June 21-July 1 and wondering when we can start making serious plans.  Restaurant reservations for one!

Has anyone been to these seemingly obscure ports (Bornholm, Visby, Kiel, Skagen)? I’m interested in shipbuilding history to a point but maybe not more than once on a given cruise. Any recommendations for good excursion options on these places (O-sponsored or other)?

Also interested in what a day in port looks like if you choose to stay on the ship….do they discount spa treatments and shopping like others we’ve been on?

Appreciate any guidance, our first time on O and only our 3rd cruise. Thanks.
