Wonderful review so far!! We are trying to pick a cruise for our 25th anniversary in 8/17 , so I think I will go read your Alaskan cruise reviews. If you could manage to go on a celebrity Alaskan cruise soon for comparison that would be so appreciated! Otherwise, we are considering a Baltic or Norwegian coast cruise, if you have any suggestions. I will burn to a crisp if we go anywhere south of Bermuda in August. Thanks again, enjoying the lovely pictures (especially that incredible crab salsa!) and your cheeky commentary!

So here's something I'd ask pregnant and traveling moms to be to consider... If you go into premature labor or have preeclampsia in the second trimester we would try to keep you pregnant, manage the complication and keep you pregnant to save your baby. While considering your well being too of course. It's often very complicated and highly specialized. I don't know if the cruise ship or hospitals in dr or other islands would be able to do that. Even though it's not a huge risk it makes me really worry. Please know that's why I mention these potential complications. You might be allowed to leave the country til 24 weeks, but know the risks. I want you all to have nice healthy babies!

I've done some basic searching, but nothing that answers an important question..is the risk only if you are infected while pregnant or is it a problem if you are infected and become pregnant 5 or 10 years after infection? If anyone has information to refer to id really appreciate it. I suspect that it is not known since this is emergent, but would love to know. Thx!

As a mother & baby nurse, please don't travel out of the country once you are past 23 weeks. Every mom I care for who had a placental abruption or preeclampsia never expect it to happen to them. Go somewhere nearby, enjoy yourself and congrats!

We started in a balcony, then went back and forth between balconies and mini suites. On breakaway I splurged and booked an aft penthouse. It was amazing to have some outdoor space for the kids to use, where they weren't tumbling on top of me :) Next cruise (we leave in 8 days!!!) has us in a family suite and we are all looking forward to some separate spaces. The boys are still too young to be in a separate cabin, but this layout seems to make everyone happy. Time will tell! I agree I'd rather get a suite than pay for two cabins.

Enjoy your trip! It was actually the family suite option that made us try NCL. Especially when they are offering free specialty dining, drinks, gratuity and a bunch of obc last spring...doing the math, it was worth a little extra over connecting rooms.

Family suite in April, good promos when we booked and we have three kids, so the suite was not significantly more than two connecting rooms...

If you purchased travel insurance, you might check your policy..the one I bought does provide a $750 reimbursement for port changes. I haven't tried to claim it yet, but it might be worth looking at whether yours covers that. I was looking forward to that stop too.

Thank you for taking time to review your cruise! We have a family suite reserved right near the library for April on the Star and are trying to decide on "what to do and where" so your opinions are appreciated. Shame about the staff in the children's programs not being kinder to both you and your son. I don't know that my daughters will use it much anyway, neither are particularly joiners, lol. Thanks!

Thanks for all the suggestions! I did manage to find a Nationwide policy that will cover 70% of the cost if my job will not allow me to go. Almost all policies are within 14 days of the initial payment, but this one is ok up to the day of the final payment. Although I'm sure there are many good insurance companies out there, I have to rave that insuremytrip was extremely helpful! I talked to three different agents over the last couple of days and they were all knowledgeable, polite and really worked hard to find what I needed. I found their website and email info very easy to use also.

I have also learned that as an RN at a hospital it is extremely difficult to plan a vacation. I think in the future I will have to do last minute reservations, well really 60 days at the earliest. It is frustrating and all this angst of not knowing whether we can go or not is too tiring! Live and learn!

I certainly hope my vacation time will be approved next month and am glad I have the insurance just in case. Truly appreciate all the suggestions!

I will make some phone calls and check the board you mentioned, appreciate the help!

Hi, we have a cruise planned for April, but my job will not tell me til February if I can have that week off. The travel agency's insurance will not cover having to cancel for scheduling reasons. Does anyone have recommendations of an insurance that would cover not being able to get the time off? Thanks in advance for your help!
