No need, vaccinated can get COVID but highly unlikely to spread it.  The vaccine prevents you from building up enough of a viral load to be shedding it.

This is a theory that has not proven to be true. And think about what you are saying logically.  Like with your own brain.  Does it make sense?  Of course not.

Three Appelsye Judge's decided on way all last week, were you touting how meaningful that was?  Now the same Judge's overruled themselves su esponte.  I find this very strange.  Justice Thomas is the next to decide the preliminary order before it goes back to the trial court for trial to final judgment, followed by appeals.  But in any event, all of these decisions are regarding the trial court's preliminary stay of the CDC orders.  So whichever court is deciding it, all of these decisions are only preliminary.

The court changed its ruling because it realized the cdc has no case.  Desantis is not your average fool politician and is unusual in that he knows what he is doing.  He went to Harvard law (on merit not through contacts) and worked as a JAG.  Most politicians are so B (Or rather C or D) team. I can’t wait to see NCL move out of Miami when del rio loses his lawsuit.

Florida sued Xavier Becerra, the Secretary of Health and Human Services, and Rochelle Walensky, the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In their official capacity of the respective agencies. Not the HHS, and not the CDC.

Same with suing the Florida State Surgeon General, in his official capacity as Director of the Florida Department of Health, the agency responsible for enforcing the law the suit is seeking to invalidate.

    That's how it's done.

It’s different.  Florida wasn’t challenging a law. Their case was about the overreach of specific  government agencies.  Bureaucracy run amok.  But NCL is fighting an actual LAW and suing the agency that is enforcing the law.  Totally pointless.

The Florida Department of Health is headed by the State Surgeon General, Scott A. Rivkees, M.D., and Florida Statute § 381.00316(4) specifies it is the Florida Department of Health that is responsible for imposing the fine of up to $5,000 in accordance with Florida Statute § 381.00316. So it is indeed the appropriate entity to sue in this situation.

What doesn't make sense is most every part of what you're complaining about. NCL has decided that it is proper and appropriate to resume sailing with a requirement of vaccination. Florida law prohibits that. So they sue to overturn that particular law so that they can sail with fully vaccinated passengers.

It doesn't matter if other cruise lines have decided to find ways to sail, typically with fewer than 100% vaccinated passengers. NCL has decided they do not want to place their passengers at risk because Florida law is forcing them to ignore the public health.

In fact, other cruise lines are requiring vaccination in every sailing from other ports, outside of Florida. It would seem likely those same cruise lines would prefer to have that policy on sailing from within Florida. Perhaps it is worth questioning why they are not following this path that NCL has chosen. It may, for example, be in part because the cruise lines are currently benefiting from Florida providing vaccination doses, and if they were to take an adversarial position, perhaps they feel it would put that at risk. Just one thought about motivations.

That’s like suing the dmv because you don’t feel like you should have to get a driver’s license.  Makes no sense for NCL to sue the surgeon general.

Sept 4 and Dec 18 bookings for us - both vaccinated and ready for a booster if needed.  Just let me know which arm! Vaccinated cruises are fine with us.  But I'm curious - how long can vaccinated cruises continue?  Are there enough vaccinated cruisers to sustain the industry for a while?  I sure hope so!  NOT playing devil's advocate - just asking the question.

Not long term.  Look how much CCL stock has dropped since they flip flopped on their vaccine status.  When carnival was still saying they would not require a vaccine,  the stock was very high.

  5. Everything is personal for del rio.  He is so combative.  He has effectively run NCL into the ground.  Ncl was already the least kid friendly line we have sailed.  This vaccine stance makes it official— they never liked having to deal with kids.  Well, karma.  They are the cruise line most likely to declare bankruptcy IMO.  Bad move with the lawsuit, del rio, and suing the surgeon general?  Doesn’t even make sense.

"A federal judge has ruled that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) can't enforce its 'authoritarian' pandemic-era sailing orders against Florida cruise ships from mid-July."

I do have to LOL at this great point by the judge:

"In the ruling, he compared the "authoritarian" rules to implementing a nationwide ban on sex because of a fear of STDs."

It’s actually a great comparison and one I have thought of myself.  Millions walk around with stds and infect others wittingly or unwittingly, but we never would round up or trace those people— or impose different laws on them.  That’s what an authoritarian society would do.

who here would sign up for the unvaccinated cruise? Be honest

Sign us up!!!  Because we had Covid and are not getting vaccinated (science!).  Ever!!!!  Wow, now I am so glad that I didn’t cancel our 2 ccl cruises.  I almost did it the other day too. I wasn’t looking forward to switching to royal to be honest.  But I would have.  I am simply over the moon right now.

  8. We are in this situation with 2 reservations and I have been dreading calling.  I am almost positive they will let you move it to another date no questions asked.  We have done this about four times since COVID.  At this point, however, I am ready for a refund.  We want to switch to royal.  I intend to get a refund and will push back on it.

Unless one is under contract, employment in the state of Texas is considered 'at will'  and therefore employedrs can, will, and have terminated employees for anything.

The Methodist nurses across the region are upset that they must take the vaccine to remain employed by Methodist, but the hospital group will win this one. I have a feeling it is why the we're seeing it in the news as they stand on the street corners waving flags and signs. They seek sympathy from the masses.

Well I think they could win and I hope they do.  They could easily get jobs elsewhere as they work in one of the world’s largest medical centers, and as many other doctors and nurses unwilling to get the vaccine have done.  This is obviously about principle for them not sympathy.

Awesome!!!  We’ve been road tripping and been to Disney several times since last spring. We’ve already had covid and so will not get the vaccine.  There is a whole section of the country that is living normal lives and does not care who is vaccinated or not.  Go Carnival!!!  I love that CEO.  What guts it takes to go against the grain.  The man is brilliant.

But there is also the question of whether they actually legally could force people to get an experimental gene altering therapy that has only been approved for emergency use.

For folks talking about vaccinated verses non-vaccinated cruises— fine with me, but which one do you think all the fun people will be on?  😜

I normally post in RC, but since I might be swapping over to Carnival, I figured I'd post here as well.

The parties in the lawsuit have been ordered by the judge to enter mediation, to be resolved by June 1st.

And, the CDC now says you only have to get tested for COVID after a cruise if the cruise is longer than four nights. We all know it's the 5th night that the COVID can get you. 🙂

I wonder how many people have to get tested after four nights at a Disney hotel? Or four nights at your local casino? Or four nights in to your business trip?

    Wait, none. That's right.

    Welcome to CCL.

For some reason, the irrationality of all of this never ceases to surprise me.

Oh, I never suggested that government healthcare was free, quite the opposite... I just don't want the crooked US government having control of mine...

You are 100% correct.  I was much more socialist until I actually lived in England and couldn’t find a second job because everything closed at like five because of all the government regulations.  So all those odd jobs you do to support your cruise habit?  Not happening there.  Husband is British, I’m American.  After meeting in the US and having a kid, we thought we’d make a go of it in England.  Who wants to stay in the USA where everything is so backward?  Well, our son ended up with a very rare medical condition.  The doctor in our local council (the one you’re assigned to 😐) found out I was American and said, go to the USA.  Your son will never get the surgeries he needs here.  He will be on a list.  It will not be prioritized.  And he will never make it off the list in time.  He added that he wished he could go to the USA himself.  I was pretty shocked.  I didn’t hear about this side of socialism at my northeastern liberal arts college.  And I don’t even think England is truly socialist, but their healthcare is.  Frankly, it’s a pretty bad sign to me that Canada can’t even get the vaccinations out, because that’s what socialized healthcare is supposed to be good at: The basics.  Or at least that’s what they say.

state governments will not be allowed to tell private business whether they can or can't require vaccinations. courts will never accept that from the states. private business can make the rules for their business to protect themselves and their customers as they see fit.

Lol.  Unfortunately government bosses private business around all the time.  That’s what they specialize in.  Have you been alive the last year  or did you rip van wrinkle it?

Well my parents are 95 and 102 is why I choose to get it.

But I think they should not require masks if you are vaccinated. Now they are complaining people dont want it. There needs to be a reason to get it, like throw away my mask.

Idk of places here in the city I can shop without one.

We just don’t wear them.  We’ve had Covid.  If someone asks me to I will.  But no one ever has except Costco.

  15. I think they will move ships to leave from the Bahamas.  Not all but some, just to show the stupidity of it all.  They have a big facility in Freeport and already have some infrastructure there and could easily get airliners to offer relatively inexpensive charter flights.   I’m in.  I think Carnival management is doing an excellent job.  I love that they are not requiring vaccines because most of the population has already been exposed to the thing at this point and already has immunity.  By all means get the vaccine, but I suspect regular old herd immunity is what’s really at work.  You see this in states without mask mandates and restrictions.  Low numbers.

I hope they do change homeports at this time for the rest of the year or so. The CDC is just playing politics at this time. High risk people are vaccinated or have atleast been given the chance to get vaccinated.

99% survival rate BEFORE the vaccines..

    What's really going on here?

Look at where your tax money is actually going in these stimulus bills and you'll see.

    Exactly.
