On our cruise in the caribbean last month I did not find that Tuxedo's and DJ's were in the minority on optional formal night, just the opposite.
Glad to hear it.
Did the ladies scrub up well?

Writer 100 - in my UK brochure the statement re formal nights specifically says that for the 'black tie optional' evenings men should wear tuxedo, dinner jacket, or dark suit in the main dining room and that the 'alternative dining venues' will welcome guests in elegant casual attire as described, i.e. jacket with or without tie for men. Therefore, to dine in the main dining room on formal optional evenings a man has to be dressed in tux, d.j. or dark suit. Or perhaps I am misinterpreting it?
My Seabourn travel planner that arrived today in the UK says
"After 6pm,suggested attire for all venues on board will be one of the following"
Resort Casual
Elegantly Casual
Formal Optional
Formal optional says
While elegantly Casual is always appropriate during the evening,a formal optional evening will be provided for guests who wish to dress more formally at least once each seven days.
Formal optional attire includes a tuxedo or dark suit with tie for men, cocktail dress or other formal apparel for women.
On Formal optional evenings,we request no jeans in any of the lounges or dining venues.
The number of Formal optional evenings during your voyage is listed on page two of your booklet.
For me it says three nights because I am on board for twenty one days.
I always take my Tuxedo and my wife always takes a different long dress for each formal evening.
So in a nutshell Seabourn are saying that on Formal optional evening you can wear the minimum of Elegantly casual, which is a jacket over a shirt or sweater for men worn also with slacks but ofcourse no jeans. No tie is required.
Women can wear a dress, skirt or slacks with a sweater or blouse.

Why did you stay at the table if you were uncomfortable about it?
-
I am not sure if you would be turned around and asked to change though.
Although the Captain might ask you to get back to the engine room.:)

How strict is the dress code in the evenings. Can you wear jeans in the dining room?
Dine in your suite, that way you can wear as much denim as you want.

Good as I'm sure it is I would certainly not travel to Singapore to eat Italian food.
Nor Italy to sample Singaporean cuisine.

The best way to book a cruise on a Seabourn ship is to use a travel agent that is experienced with Seabourn. You will get a much better price and good advise about the product.
Booking directly with the company will cost more and will sometimes involve varying degrees of success.

When Jane said "this is the place"- she meant "this thread" not the closed magician thread...
Host Dan
Funny thing isn't it that a Magician thread has disappeared.
I bet Harry Houdini could unlock the padlock.

Just leave a sum that you are comfortable with at the pursers desk .Ask for the crew welfare fund,it goes towards little extras for the crew and parties etc.

Marja, what a nice picture of two bicycles. ;)

Does anyone remember what time the complimentary Evening in Ephesus tour starts?
I'm trying to book my tour for that day and am not sure whether an all day tour would conflict with this.
7-7.30 it has been before.

Here's the latest 50 Best Restaurants list. Some in Seabourn Ports and several in Marja's homeland.
and ofcourse,none on a ship.

And I was going to invite you to share my propellor.
Sir Martin:eek:
I think it depends on how big your blades are
-
It's very obvious.
Yes,I've heard.
-
No.
Ok it's either Gas or involves some sort of thrusting.
-
I think not. I prefer a somewhat older method of propulsion, but please do not let that stop you.
:D
Does it involve Wind?

I totally agree with you Stewart. If you speak politely and courteously to anyone, the chances are that you will receive a courteous and polite reply. It is a fact of human nature that no one likes to be 'spoken down' to or have orders barked at them - even though it is their job to comply with them. The old adage of "You only get as good as you give" springs to mind.
We have always tried to be reasonable and courteous to our waiter/steward/butler, and to build up some small rapport with them. We also inform them of our particular likes and dislikes or of any special requirements; after all they are not mind readers! This has always paid dividends, as the resultant service that we have received has usually been quite exceptional.
Regards,
David
Oh,I thought that Stewart meant if you throw lots of cash at them, then they are all over you like a rash.

Excuse me.... !
We don't have to excuse our selves to like a crossing!
I know the "LORD" is joking and just envious, but Paul and Dan, yes, you are so right. How can you get to know somebody better than on a crossing if you are open for it. Not on a port incentive one week Med cruise I guess (unless you spend the whole night in the Club or casino at night;)).
And yes, we can only afford these crossings - and the business class one ways, the expensive hotels, staying there several days...
I know Lord, but if this is the answer you were looking for, so be it! I still hope to be on my crossing next week (fingers and toers crossed...).
And on an other very cheap cruise in January!
Marja
Yes Marja, like you I am always envious of the cruise that I am not on.;)
-
Less expensive? Maybe... The MOST fun? YES!! (there are folks that would never fare several sea days in a row, no matter what the discount).
Host Dan
Yes Dan I agree, the most fun with all of those sea days.
-
A lot of folks take a crossing as this is the cheapest way to be on a Seabourn ship.
Dress Code
in Seabourn Cruise Line
Posted
It's always 18.00 (6pm) on a ship that the evening dress code begins.
