Only thing I don't like about NYC is the Yankees. Haha, so this is all good info, so what is the ship like ? Does it have a heated pool or covered pool.

What's your thoughts on this ship and intenerary, what you like about this ship and intenerary, we're thinking on doing a couple of days before. We want to stay in Times Square how far is the port from Times Square and what airport is better to fly into. We're thinking on Oct 2015 cause we booked on a cruise for this Nov on the Valor.

I live in NY and do this cruise every year (have been doing it since 2000 or so) Atlantic Canada is a beautiful part of Canada (must admit I find most of Canada different and yet all wonderful, have been to Vancouver, Yukon, Montreal, Quebec and Toronto)

There are so many choices of what to do in the Port(s) its best to check out ports of call area of the forum for some great info. I find the area very clean and noncommercial with lots of history. There are lots of great parks and natural beauty.

 

I have walked from the Times Sq area to the Port, in fact if you stay at a hotel West of Times sq near 50 th st its very easy to walk, depending how much luggage you have. The walk across town is long blocks, but one can take the bus (M50) on 49 st to a stop across the st from the Pier. A taxi will get you to the ship in no time.

Any of one the 3 airports are easy to get to the city from, so do which ever one is easier. There are buses from Newark that go to the Times sq area, and lots of transportation from JFK & LGA.

This summer will be my first time on the Splendor.

Any suggestions for the best way to get to the Manhattan Cruise Terminal from Queens, NY? We have 15 passengers. We can split into two groups of 8 and 7 passengers. We are going on Carnival Splendor. Thank you.....

 

 

I live in Queens and always take the train and then the bus.

E train to 50th st (there is an escalator on the platform and another that goes to the st level.) Then I hop the crosstown bus on 49th st M50 going West and get off at 12th ave and cross the st to the Pier.

 

If you are flying in and going to the Port on the weekend, a cab would work, since traffic shouldn't be too bad. If you are going to the port on a weekday, car service might be better since you might get stuck in traffic.

 

If you look under Ports in the forums you should find lots of info on this subject.

I went in June, was there for the midnight sun. You need layers like everyone stated. Also a rain slicker or poncho will be good to have. I would also pack a pair of shorts, we had such a heat spell, (80's or 90's it was hot) I kept asking when they were turning on the AC in the stores in the towns.

My in-laws are looking at getting one of these rooms. Are they worth the extra $6.50 p/p per night?

 

Can anyone tell me anything about them? What exactly is the view? Is it like on RC where you look over onto the promenade? I'm thinking not since the description says you will have a sky view.

I have had that cabin twice and at least once on the Glory Its a great cabin, I have had it on deck 6. There are some pics posted if you goggle it. the window is a picture window that looks out into the area in the front of the ship. You will see the railing of the ship and some sky and water.

The cabin feels very spacious and you get tons of light coming in. Anyone can walk in front of the cabin as its public space (therefore someone can look in your window) I have never seen anyone walking in front of the cabin even though one can.

If having some light is important I would take the cabin.

Also keep in mind the cabin is in the very front of the ship. Its also dark outside the cabin at night with no lights, since you are below the bridge and light would be distracting to the captain.

I stayed in one of these cabins last year and will do so again next month. I was very happy with the cabin. If you do a search there was just a post about the cabin with pictures.

Free laundry is outstanding. Two suitcases have now become one.

 

If they set up special platinum lunch with officers for platinums would be nice benefit and would not cost them anything as they are feeding us anyway.

 

I went to a special lunch with Officers on my last RCCL cruise. (my cabinmate had the perk and I was a guest) It was the best meal I had on my 2 week cruise in the MDR.

I always carry on a backback and a duffle bag (long cruise) or a small suitcase (short cruise)

 

Once on board I bring my stuff to the room, I know the room is not secure. I tell the cabin stewart I just want to put my luggage in the room. I then go to lunch taking my backback with my valuables.

 

So far no problem in doing this.

How sad, I cruised with him on one of my cruises to Canada. He was a great cruise director and loved his bird show.

On one cruise so far they were free! (RCL) On the other it was the usual stuff.

Well, that's not totally correct. If you wanted to put together a Meet & Greet in a private room, you can on CCL, for free....but no open bar. What you are paying for is the open bar service. Same on NCL and RCCL....they are not giving out free booze for a M&G.

 

Great original post by the way! I did this exact same thing for our group last October...on the Dream....in the Jazz lounge. lol. Perfect room for that! And I also didn't mention CC. Getting ready to set up the same for the Miracle....it's such a perfect way to do it!

 

I have been on many CCL cruises as well as RCL.

 

I did a party like this with my CC group and had a great time. In fact, the party was set up for 1 or 2 hours, if you choose to do an hour you left after the first hour.

 

A M&G has been discussed with John H. and last summer he stated that one will be done when requested and put in the caper. One was scheduled for the 1st day of the cruise before I had boarded.

 

Also on my last RCCL cruise last Nov (transatlantic 14 day cruise) the meet & mingle was set up in the morning. It was set up in one of the lounges, a few hundred signed up and it looked like everyone attended. They was serving morning cocktails and danish. This was the first time I saw real drinks being served.

It is best to reserve it before you cruise, I just switched to it last week from an assigned dining time. Its not a problem to switch as long as they have the space. I would call and see if you can switch, else try once you get on board.

So, on a crowded ship, the elevators get a little crazy....

 

Tip 1:

When you want to travel several floors without picking up extra folk along the way, hold your floor selection button and the "door close" button at the same time until the doors close. Then you'll travel in "priority" mode.

 

Interesting tip, bet I would get some stares from others who also get on at the same time as me. I can't recall getting onto to an empty elevator to try this. But good to know just in case of an emergency.

How are the bj tournaments done on Carnival that is how many hands per round, how many rounds, how many advance in each round and are there any "elimination" hands prior to the final hand in each round?

 

 

I have watched many times and finally played in one now that I am platinum. I don;t remember how many hands per round (a guess would be about 15). There is a leader board put up and those with the most amount of chips play in the final. The number of rounds depends on how many are playing the tourney.
