There are going to be many more cases onboard if passengers are not tested before embarkation.

              Rhea

Absolutely.  No question.  Even more important, UNVAXED passengers will be permitted to board if they test negative, but they are much more likely to pick up the virus in port and bring it aboard.

  2. Our June B2B on Marina was about 1/2 full for the first leg, and 1/3 on the second (or so we were told).  As we had Covid on the second leg--for 11 days--I can't tell you how that affected service or ambiance.  Our medical care was excellent, as was the food, and we got a lot of reading done...

Privee is very nice  space  but  nicer to share with friends

I'm sure it is a lovely experience.  However, on our last cruise, I heard someone mispronounce it as "Privy."  Can't get that out of my mind, now!

After we returned home, my TA and I both contacted Oceania and claimed a REFUND for the days in quarantine.  We had to produce our negative pre-boarding tests.  Within one week we were credited the full amount of the fare for each day we were in quarantine.

I am surprised at the credit for the lost days, but hope it holds true for others.  Is it FCC or an actual refund?

Don't count on them to give you much notice if they cancel.

That's for sure!  They didn't officially cancel our South America cruise until about 3 days before.  By then, we had canceled our booking--which meant getting FCC, when we would have much rather had the refund offered after THEY canceled.

  6. A look at our upcoming cruise (Oslo-Copenhagen, June 29, Marina) shows cabins available in every category except the top and the bottom.  I know there are fewer staterooms in those categories, so they tend to sell out first.  The middle levels are not sold out--does that mean loads of passengers have cancelled?

If 10 percent of the guests on the cruise were positive for Covid I can't imagine this wouldn't have made the news. Does anyone know of any verified media reports on this?

I know of none, but perhaps this falls into the category of no longer a big story.  It might have made the news if people were hospitalized or died, but that wasn't the case, thankfully.

ALWAYS call your short list airline(s) and have the rep check for better fares. You’d be surprised at how many options are not easily found on an airline website - even United (which has the clearly best airline website!).

Did United extract a fee for the privilege of booking your ticket by phone?  The last time I had to change a ticket that way, United "kindly" waived the $95 fee for helping me book an itinerary their website did not show.  United is my airline of choice for many reasons, but this was a shocker.

we have a cruise booked but I can only see us going when and if Covid is managed as a normal cold -

But it's nothing like a normal cold, and we can't pretend it is!  More than 6 million people have left the Earth because of Covid.  And many formerly healthy people are living with long-Covid in a seemingly endless battle with fatigue, pain, and organ deterioration.  We can't wish it away.  We must all remain vigilant and take the measures proven effective, for all our sakes.

Both of us have had fever, sore throats,  and cold-like symptoms.

Terri, that sounds just miserable.  I am so sorry for you and your husband, and hope you are better by now.  We are supposed to board Marina in Oslo on June 29...time will tell!

Our neighbors boarded a Viking river cruise (not sure where) and immediately tested positive.  They were whisked off the ship and installed in an airport hotel in Frankfurt, where they spent 9 days.  Luckily for them they weren't ill, but what a miserable way to spend 9 days and about $3K.

  11. First, we want to cancel a couple of excursions we have already booked and paid for; is there a way to do that ourselves, or should we contact O or our TA?

Second, we had purchased 4 excursions for St Petersburg.  Those purchases still show on our list.  Again, O or TA?

    Thank you!

But if its really hot I will often use an umbrella - its a trick I picked up  in Asia -its actually a lot cooler than wearing a hat.

I love hats and have the collection to prove it, but I also love the umbrella/parasol option.  They make me feel rather fancy.  One of mine is white fabric with faux battenburg trim (available everywhere), and the other is green paper over bamboo.

Sad that folks caught Covid. All the more reason for O to go back to stricter pre-embark/pre-cruise testing AND Masks e erywhere except when seated to eat or drink. Simple rules with significant results:

I could not agree more!  Mask up, people.  Oceania, please MANDATE simple, easy precautions!

"P" should not have been on that cruise. She wasn't all there.

Your wife is indeed very kind.  We saw a pair of similar passengers on the Queen Victoria a few years ago.  The wife was completely out of it; the husband good enough to get her to the dining room--but often the wrong one, wrong time, etc.  It was scary.  People who think cruising is a safe vacation for people with memory loss are wrong.

Come May and June , when ship passenger levels swells, the rubber will meet the road. The prolonged practice cruises of 400-750 on O ships will be over.

Le Sigh.  That is when we cruise, and we were so hoping capacity would still be low.  How do you know the numbers are going up?  We are quite used to wearing masks and happy to continue.  We are vaxed x 2, boosted x 2, and always ready to comply.
