You don't need a reservation for shows on the Explorer.  Just show up early.
Only, the newer ships like Harmony, Symphony, Anthem, Ovation have this reservation system.
Oh phew! That's good to know. Thank you! ðŸ˜

When are you able to make the reservations on line
I'm wondering the same thing... also, does this apply to all ships? I'm sailing on the Explorer in 11 days...

Thanks for the replies guys! 🙂

I revealed the surpise cruise I booked and paid for for my boyfriend and I just last week- I ended up getting a letter board and spelling it out on there with a picture of the ship etc- put the board back in the box it came in and wrapped that up (it was his anniversary/Christmas gift) - went down a treat!

Just wondering if anyone knows if the following ports are tenders or are "walk off"?
Newcastle
Wollongong (Port Kembla)
and Hobart
We're sailing on RCI Explorer of the Seas if that makes any difference. 😁 Many thanks!

The time to reveal is SO close!! 16 days and counting. I can't believe I've managed to keep this cruise a secret since the beginning of June!
So I've found a letter board (see pic) that I'm going to "write" on to reveal the cruise... I'm going to give him the letter board in the box so he'll be "what the?" until he opens the box and reads the board. I'm going to print out a picture of the ship to put on there as well.
I just dont know what to write on the board! Help a girl out??

I'm going on this ship in February next year, I was excited by the pictures I'd seen, your video has just increased that 10 fold!
Thank you for doing the blog and posting it! :D

So I'm well aware this may be a silly question but I'm going to ask it anyway :p
I'm an Aussie and sailing on the Explorer next Feb when she's in Australia, just wondering if the electrical sockets will be American and should I be investing in an adapter?

243 until the Explorer
170 days until I can reveal the surprise cruise to the boyfriend!

Gosh - I’m going to add a slightly different take here. I also do full hair and makeup each night before dinner. However, I relish the ability to take my time. I often shower and sit on the balcony air drying my hair for a half hour or so. Then my husband and I will have a glass of something sparkling (champagne or prosecco), and I’ll finish the “process”. I have a great cruise mix on my iPhone that we listen to while getting ready as well. During the work week, getting ready is always rush-rush and a chore. On ship I get ready to so that I feel good about me. Perhaps that’s why my best photos have been taken at sea...

This is me too! I love taking the time to get ready for dinner- I can usually wash, blow dry and either straighten or curl my hair in about 40 minutes. Make up takes 10-15 mins depending how glam I want to go :D. While I'm getting ready, boyfriend goes and gets a cocktail or two to bring back to the cabin and we get some tunes going. It's great!

What a near thing to do. I know my hubby would be royally PO'd at me if I tried to do something like that. Not only is he not big on surprises, but he likes to be part of the planning. Plus he would want to check with his boss first (and again would be PO'd if I did it for him). Now of course, if I wanted to pay for it all, that he would be fine with.
As far as your planning and sharing, don't forget to check for your official RCI Meet & Mingle thread and sign up for the party. I'm sure everyone already signed up will be excited to follow along, make suggestions and even help with more surprises if you wanted.
Do keep us posted on how everything comes together.

Haha luckily my boyfriend is the opposite to your hubby! He's more than happy to sit back and let me plan our holidays together. I'll be springing the surprise on him a good 3 months before we go so he'll have some say in shore excursions etc. We're also both good friends with his boss at his work and socialise with the boss and bosses wife outside of work quite often so it was very easy for me to send him a sneaky message and confirm time off would be approved ;p
That's a great idea about the RIC meet and mingle thread- I'll do that, thanks!!

Deposit has been paid! *happy dance* I now have until 31st Oct to pay the remaining $1800 odd which is plenty of time. No more online shopping for me for a while!

Our first cruise in 1992 on RCI Sovereign of the Seas was a surprise 10th anniversary cruise for my wife. So as not to be divorced for not allowing her any time to prepare and pack, I told her of it a week before at dinner at a restaurant where I presented the cruise documents with desert.
26 years later have been cruising - and happily married - ever since.
Hahaha very clever (and smart!) of you :D. My boyfriend will have 2ish months from when he finds out about the cruise to when we set sail so he'll have plenty of time to plan and pack (there's no way I'd pack for him!)

Last Christmas I surprised my mom and sister with a cruise on the Freedom OTS. I wrote a 10 line poem, printed it and then cut it into 5 small sheets, 2 lines to a sheet. I then picked up small items that reflected each line, and wrapped them up, using the 5th package for all the cruise info. Other boxes contained things like a small plastic airplane, travel size toiletries, passport cases, a book for vacation reading and the like. What a fun time watching them put together the poem clues, trying to figure out why I gave them kid':D:Ds toy planes and boats.

That sounds like way to much work for me haha... awesome idea though... I have the time up my sleeve to put something like this together for sure...

Now we must talk about how you will present the gift.
I actually had this done to me. The cruise brochure was placed in a shirt box.
For my sisters 60, i sent her and hubby to vegas for a short trip. I made a passport with the info inside.
This is really the fun part. I love surprising people.
I even bought my ex a car one year. Picked it up, and parked it up the block. Christmas night moved it to driveway, big red bow on it. Closed blinds and put keys in stocking.

I have absolutely no idea how I'm going to spring this on him haha. Luckily I have 6 months to figure it out!

My TA has come through and has given me a great price. I will be paying the deposit by the end of the week. I've also had a sneaky chat with my boyfriends boss who has confirmed that he can go on leave from work. It's all systems go!

We have done a few Christmas cruises, and almost always spot a family at the harbour telling the kids they are going on the cruise! The kids are always so excited, and it is lovely to see.
My sister wants to take her kids on a cruise when her youngest is a bit older (she has a 6yr old and 19month old) - will definitely be telling her to surprise them for sure... my nephew (6yr old) would absolutely loose his mind with excitement...
-
I always use a TA for booking my cruises, however, my TA is also my best friend since childhood soooo I may be slightly biased when it comes to her :D

How fun and exciting! We surprised our kids with a Disney trip several years ago. We didn't tell them until we arrived at the airport. It was so fun but they were little and it was easy to pack for them. I don't think I could do that fort he kids again now that they are teens.
I'm planning a surprise trip for my husband's 40th right now. I'm going to tell him about the trip though, since the timing is a bit complicated since we will be in the middle of a major move BUT I am not going to tell him that his best friends (we all live in different parts of the world and we haven't seen some of them in years) will be meeting us there. I can't wait!
Oooh that would be so fun! I'd looove to get another couple to cruise with us as the Mr has always said he'd really enjoy that but anyone I've asked so far can't go then- the timing is off for them which is a shame- will keep trying though because I know how much the Mr would enjoy it (he's definitely a more the merrier kind of guy lol).

OMG I could never keep quiet about a cruise from DH. Good luck with that. But come on here and tell us all about it.

Haha thanks! I'm going to try my absolute best to keep it a secret/surprise!
This place will be my outlet to talk about it/ plan stuff for sure :D

Very nice. Please don't follow my lead and slip up and tell her about a week after the reservations were made. :-)
I can totally see me doing this... :')
-
Going to pay my deposit tomorrow or Wednesday- just waiting to see what price my awesome TA (who also happens to be my best friend as well) comes back with for me...

We surprised our kids last week! Had to hold the secret for over a year! Drove up to canaveral and said let’s go on Oasis! They were shocked and had a blast

Oh wow! Over a year! And here's me thinking keeping it secret for 6 months is bad enough! Glad you pulled it off though- would have been awesome for them!
Is this type of power bar allowed on board?
in Royal Caribbean International

I took a brand new, still in the package power board that showed on the package that it didnt have surge protection on my cruise last month on the Explorer of the Seas - it was confiscated ☹️. Our cabin steward was sympathetic and actually let us borrow his own for the 6 night cruise.
