  1. I used Lyft from Ft Lauderdale Beach to Port of Miami for $43.25 not including tip.. but it was during “surge pricing’.

By comparison, I didn’t want to wait 6 minutes for an Uber or Lyft to reach me after we disembarked..Hopped in a cab that was sitting in front of me. That ride was $120+ tip. Lesson learned, next time I’ll wait.

  2. Hi all,

I am booked on the Getaway 6/24. Was an Eastern, NCL switched it to a Western earlier this week. I have all 4 of the “4 options” and a $160 credit from booking during a certain promotion 2 months ago.

However, we just did that exact Western itinerary over Thanksgiving.

I called NCL and asked if I can transfer my perks to a Bermuda sailing.. was told “No”.

The price difference for same stateroom category on the Escape is $900+. I realize that it’s not Norwegian’s problem that I recently did the Western Caribbean, but given the situation I was hoping they would transfer the perks.

I’m ok with paying the price difference for the sailing, but had the Eastern not been available at time of booking, I would have gone ahead with Bermuda..and in turn, would have received the perks at that time.

Am I asking for too much?

    Should I try again?

  3. Do you think a big part of this switch is due to Tortola? NCL seemed to invest heavily in that port and it doesn't seem to be recovering as quickly as some of the others.

We were in St. Thomas on the Dawn in November. While things weren't ideal, we were happy to go into town and spend some money (it rained ALL day, so anything else would have been not pleasant).

I wish NCL would have kept the Eastern route and supported these islands where the islands could handle them (and I think St. Thomas can).

I think it must be Tortola. I don’t understand it though. My sailing isn’t til 6/24.. I chose this itinerary knowing full well that St Thomas and Tortola would still be recovering, and I was ok with that.

  4. We are affected, too. What makes me frustrated is we went from 3 ports to 4. On this ship I wanted 3 sea days to use the ship features and will now only have 2. Also hate the new itinerary. May cancel, depends on what family wants. So disappointed since we got a great deal and now those awesome deals aren't there since we booked so early.

You can still stay on board one day. Our snorkeling excursion was cancelled in Cozumel due to weather, we stayed on the ship and had a great time. :)

Does anyone know if NCL is the only company who changed their itinerary? My cruise is not til the end of June, received the email yesterday. Unsure of what I’m going to do now. We just did the Western over Thanksgiving.

  5. My 7 year old absolutely loved the Getaway. We travel just the 2 of us, definitely the easiest trip that we’ve ever taken!

He didn’t want to do the Splash Academy at all, actually complained about registering the first day..

then I finally convinced him to go an hour or so before the Splashtacular show.. he LOVED it!!! Ended up going back to the Splash Academy that night for a pajama party.

Even without using the kids club until the last night, there was no shortage of things for him to do on the other 6 nights. We spent most of our time on the slides, ropes course, rock climbing wall, sports deck. The plank and zip line were his favorite things on the ship.

They also had a “family activity” each day. ie Dodgeball, balloon animals, karaoke, etc.

One day they did Just Dance in the atrium for the kids. Even my shy kiddo had a blast doing it (once I convinced him with the help of a fabulous assistant cruise director).

Highly recommend the Getaway or similar ship on NCL.

  6. Silly question, but did you happen to just browse the photos on display in the photo area? That's where we found random photos of us, the times that there wasn't someone asking our room number. Most of our plank photos were there.

    Oh these are wonderful!!!!

Yes, I checked our book and the screen, and also asked one of the people working there.. that’s who informed me that it wasn’t working.

  7. I was on the same cruise (Thanksgiving) and finally got on the ropes course on the last sea day. There was a photographer on the plank taking pictures. I bought a plank picture and also pulled the string for the selfie but the photographer said it wasn’t working. She took my picture and I bought one. It says “I walked the plank 18 decks above the sea”. I guess for future cruisers, make sure there’s a photographer up there if you want a picture of you on the plank.

Oh wow that’s great! I wish I would have realized that! I just checked my photos.. on the last day we were up there around 5:30 or so.. I got down to take photos of my son. Took this photo shortly after.. e7618f52e37d9ee5fa3f640b098f3246.jpg

We were up there everyday at varying times, but never did see a photographer. I’ll know to check periodically next time.

  8. I went to purchase our photos on the last night of our Thanksgiving Week cruise on the Getaway.

Asked where I could find the plank photos..

Apparently the camera wasn’t working, even though it did flash every time we pulled the rope.

    Is this a common problem?

Just curious to know for the future.

  9. Does anyone know if I can buy a one day pass while onboard? Or if I book a massage will I have access to the thermal suite?

I won't be there more than once and all I see on the website is weeklong passes.

  10. We're on the Getaway Western Caribbean.

I had 3 shows booked and 4 specialty dining restaurants.

Started to feel over scheduled so cancelled all dining and one show.

My question is, Norwegian's website says they have daily 'family activities', such as Circus School etc. How do I know the times for these activities? I'd like to make sure that I plan dinners and Cirque Dreams and Steam around it.

  11. We had a two-bedroom suite on the Pearl Nov. 26, got the e-mail to bid last week and disappointed to find the upgrade to Haven two-bedroom suite was $600 pp even though only one of the eight rooms have sold. But I made the mistake of showing my mom a video of the Pearl's Haven pool and she insisted we still try and make the bid. So we bid $605.

Then I saw the prices had dropped on the main NCL site. I wasn't too hopeful because we booked through Casinos At Sea and our experience has been that their upgrade rates are fixed, regardless of any price drop on the website. Well I called anyway and was quoted a price of $961 (total) to upgrade. Certainly cheaper than the $1200 bid! When I told the CAS rep that, she said she would verify the price with her supervisor. Unfortunately, while she was away I had to end the phone call because my ride home was waiting. So I texted my mom on the drive home about the (possible) new price.

So she calls this evening, and the price they quoted her was ... $80. Not per person: Total. Needless to say she jumped all over that and now we're going to become Haven Snobs!

(Although now she wants me to keep checking in case one of the Garden Villa rooms frees up!)

Wow, that's amazing! I am sailing on Thanksgiving week in an Aft balcony thru CAS, I may try the same.

I also have an Alaskan cruise booked thru CAS next June, I paid $3000 pp to upgrade to a SF. I thought that was a good deal.. apparently not.lol

  12. Good luck OP. Even with your expectations, please look over the WDW website and book a few fast passes... at least look at maps and what is available at MK- assuming that's the park you will be visiting.
