  1. On the Discovery in Alaska in June the only option for inside bed set up for 3 (one adult and 2 four year old) was twin beds. My daughter (a TA) called Princess before sailing and they said she could just request the change from the room steward. She asked nicely, begged, pleaded to have a queen set up. Room steward insisted he could not do it due to safety regulations. In the end, it worked out fine. There was more room to move around and no one could crawl in bed with her at night. The children both had Princess plus but were never asked for their room number or medallion when ordering drinks, even when they weren't with mom so bartenders would not have been able to see their package. The staff all made special smoothies, mocktails and juice concoctions for them. Once a bartender brought a special juice mix to one granddaughter in the hot tub, unsolicted because he said, "What fun is a hot tub without a drink?'Thrak, we are also in Butte county!

I had the same problem on Friday and contacted my PVP.  He told me there is currently a glitch in Princess' system for people trying to book 2 passengers in a room that will accommodate 3 or 4 passengers, such as a Deluxe Balcony or Premium Deluxe Balcony.  He said they are aware and are working on correcting it, and he's supposed to call me back tomorrow (Monday) to finalize my booking.

    But

I tried to book for 3 and4 passengers. Still can only get guarantee

For some reason Princess does this quite often with the deluxe balconies.  We love the ones on Lido deck facing forward.  I contacted our CVP because we wanted to book this cabin on Royal Princess.  She was able to grab us our favourite one…..L101.  I suggest you contact your TA or CVP and request that they secure your cabin choice for you.  It can’t hurt to ask.

Thank you so much for this tip. We recently sailed Alaska in L101 and absolutely loved it. Tried to get it for Hawaii but, got the ' Guaranteed only' for deluxe on deck 16 foward. Had our TA call and L101 thru L104 were all available ! switched from a standard balcony and saved 200$. Thank you so much.

  4. We were on the Discovery when the rockslide occurred. Clean up  was complete when we left but, there was a large hole in the pier and it looked like one support was slightly bent. Engineers were supposed to evaluate on Friday. Not sure what they found but Discovery has cancelled her next few stops there.

  5. Had Covid June 3rd. Was moderately ill for a week but also took Paxlovid so, I think that helped. Tested negative by June 8th but had a doctor's note just in case. Sailed June 19th with a negative test on June 17th so never needed the doctor's note. I felt it was the perfect time to sail since i did not have any worries about possibly catching it again. My biggest issue was making sure none of my family would catch it and test positive pre cruise. Everyone tested negative and we had a wonderful cruise.

  6. DiscoveryWe were on the Discovery on June 23rd. We had just docked at 06:00 when at 06:20 there was a loud rumbling and some shaking. The hillside above the pier next to us had sent some huge boulders tumbling down. A security officer received a bruised thigh but thankfully there were no other injuries. There was a huge hole in the pier and it was covered with debris. 13 passengers had disembarked for an early excursion. They would later be returned to the ship via tender. We backed away from the dock. The original plan was just to leave Skagway once the 13 passengers were on board. But, thanks to the quick thinking of Captain John Smith, we were able to dock at the pier past the slide where an RCL ship was supposed to dock. They had not docked yet and the captain asked permission to use their slot and they cancelled Skagway. We then tendered past the slide to the port with 3  Discovery tenders and 3 tenders borrowed from the Nieuw Amsterdam docked next to us. We were ashore on our excursion only 2 hours late. It was a beautiful, sunny day and the captain kept us informed every step of the way. Sorry the next voyages will miss this.

  7. We disembarked on the 26th as well. We also used Port Valet. Since we had 8 bags and only 3 adults with 2 children, getting to essentially 'check' our bags outside our cabin was a big advantage .However, it was not simple .By 9pm we still had no luggage tags or boarding passes. Our room steward (who was awesome) told us he had been checking but they did not have them. He told us he would keep checking but if they weren't available when he left for the night, we would have to contact guest services. Knowing GS would be busy the last night and having 2 four year olds that needed to get to bed, I started calling (and holding) for guest services. They said they were still awaiting approval from the airline. So I asked if I should just get colored tags and pick my bags up in the terminal because I was not going  to haul 8 bags around the ship. She checked with her supervisor and amazingly they would print our tags and we could pick them up. When i went to pick them up, the GS agent could not find them. I told him someone said they were printing them and they would be there. When he found them, 2 boarding passes and 2luggage tags were missing .Finally, he retrieve them but, the kids boarding passes had their mother's name on them. No problem since we use digital passes anyways. So shortly before midnight, the bags were tagged and out the door. Getting off the ship was smooth. 905am meeting time, group called at 910, walked off the ship, flashed a passport and then waited 90 minutes for the airport shuttle. Apparently the trick is to disembark early but our time was based on our flight. We did make it in time. 1145 at the airport drop off for a 1:00 flight. Luckily security was moving quickly. It was closer than I like but we did make the flight and we did not have to deal with the bags so it was worth it.Cruise was great. Crew is awesome. Medallion App is frustrating and disappointing.

  8. Don't know if this will help anyone else but, our daughter was unable to upload  her Covid test results on her android phone. She logged in on our iphone and was able to upload hers and her daughters. She had already tried getting help from Medallion. They finally told her just bring paper copies and don't worry about it.

  9. Checked multiple cruise websites and Princess. Both June 26th and June 12th(until yesterday) were available at very discounted prices. My daughter has had her guaranteed cabin assignment for 3 weeks. I'm afraid this cruise will be very full. After sailing with 36o passengers on Freedom of the seas and 33% on the Eurodam, I think this will feel very crowed to us. Luckily, we have a large balcony!

  10. We sail on June 19th. Received a surprise email and phone call from our PVP today to see if we had any last minute concerns or questions. We only spoke with her once before our previous (first)Princess cruise when we had difficulty getting answers/credits for cancelled excursions. She sent a list of contact numbers for her and Princess(not 1800) if we have any issues on this cruise. It was a pleasant surprise after all the negative things we have heard lately.
