Can you tell me what are the nightly show times in the theater? Thanks.
They'll be listed as I see them. There is no list ahead of time at least nothing I could find.

Following your review with interest as my wife and her sister-in-law are on the cruise with you.
Nice, hope they got to see the juggler last night. That was awesome.

Enjoy! We are on the Star December 18. Do they have Coca Cola on board yet?
They do, along with Sprite and Fanta Orange.

Day 1 cont.
There was a line at Versailles so we went to Aqua where there was no line at all. Service was fine but it was nothing like what we has on the Sun. I assume it's because this ship is much closer to full capacity whereas the Sun was at 50% I don't have any official numbers but it certainly seems busy. Lots of different languages. Very diverse crowd. We both had the steak medallions. Mine were plain, her's had the sauce. Now's probably a good time to tell you that I usually don't like the dining room food on NCL these days. I find it to be very low quality. I thought the steak was ok but it was bland. My wife thought her steak with the sauce was bland as well. For dessert I had the salted caramel chocolate tart which was good. She had the chocolate lave cake and she loved it. During dinner I had lemonade which was interesting since they didn't seem to have that anywhere else. For dessert I had decaf and it took forever to come. Wasn't great either. My wife wanted tea so we went up to the buffet to grab some. While there I noticed a ln orange passionfruit guava drink. I love guava juice and this was awesome. Don't remember ever seeing it before. Hope it sticks around. We then went to the theater for the juggler show. I really like this theater. The theater was about 65% full. Kinda surprised since there was only one show. I really like the balcony seats in the front.Grunway Tom from the UK was the juggler. He was insanely funny. One of the best shows I've ever seen on a cruise. I was dying laughing the entire time. Thankfully he'll be doing another show later on in the cruise. The cabin at night was cold at first and then got warm. Seems to be a pattern with NCL across ships. The walls are a little thinner than normal. The people next door wanted to watch TV at 2am and I was able to hear it. Kept me up. There's also a crew door right across the hall from us and they were real busy last night so that was a little noisy. Hopefully not too bad tonight. I use a noise app on my phone but the TV was so loud I could still here it. Just like other ships, the bed was not comfortable even with an egg crate on it. Par for the course I guess.-Day 2I'm not sure what it is but breakfast was meh. The OJ tasted sour. Don't think I'll gain too much weight on this cruise. They announced that no more tickets were necessary for the tender around 9:30. We got on right after breakfast. It's a Sunday after tourist season so St Tropez was kind of a ghost town. It was nice to walk around and check out the scenery but there wasn't much else to do. We stopped at a French bakery and got some good food. After less than 2 hours of walking, we pretty much did a lap around the entire city so we went back to the ship to relax. Gonna go to OS for some wings and fries then hit the hot tub. I don't really mind a chill day today since we are going to be so busy the rest of the time. Really looking forward to the show tonight as it features dancers from dancing with the stars. -
We flew in the day before so we had some extra time if there was a flight delay. We stayed right by the Roma Termini station. That allowed us to quickly get to and from the airport. We got to check out the Roman Baths near the station and get some food. Otherwise, we slept and relaxed.
We got to the meeting point at the airport at 9:40 (was told to get there at 10). It was easy to find. Waited about 45 minutes. It was a bit of a walk to the bus. We waited in line to show our Vax cards and then had to get our luggage tags. Our luggage got put on a truck instead of the bus. We then waited in line for the bus. For some reason, they did not allow us to get on the bus so we had to wait around some more. Finally started getting on the bus at 10:45. A handful of brought their luggage on the bus. This just creates more waiting at the port so I'm not sure why they did that.
Despite the bus being mostly full, we waited for some last minute people. We finally left 25 minutes later. So this was 70 minutes after the 10am meet up time. They said the drive was an hour and ten minutes but it wound up being about 55 minutes (12:05).Metal detector line only took a few minutes. Check in line also took just a few minutes. We were on the ship at 12:30. After the muster station, we went right to the buffet. A lot of seats were already taken but there was always available seating while we were there. There's more variety from what there was at the Sky. No iced tea or lemonade because they ran out but apparently they'll have it tomorrow. Burgers, pizza and hotdogs were all meh which is par for the course. I didn't try the pasta station but I'll see how that is tomorrow. I assume it'll be the same as other ships.Rooms were available at 1. First we went down to the shore excursion desk to see if we could book some tours but they were sold out of the ones we wanted. However, they were going to add one for Volos later. We got to our room which was similar to our balcony room on Sky except there was just empty space under the shelf by the TV. No drawers there. Kinda odd. The bathroom seems bigger and the shower has a door instead of a curtain so that's nice. The balcony itself is standard. I put in for several upgrades and none of them went through which was not a surprise since it seems like they were already booked ahead of time. No big deal as there are no sea days. I like these balcony rooms anyway. There's enough space but a few more drawers would have been nice. Our plan for today is to relax, explore the ship a little, go to dinner and then the welcome aboard show. It's gonna be an intense cruise so we want to make sure we don't over do it.I should have internet access everyday so if you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer them.- 1

So what I take from all of this that the walk down is either 20 minutes or 3 hours. Got it. lol

I've researched extensively the train and other modes of transportation to Olympia since we were interested in just visiting the site, without the added on of wineries/beaches, etc.
Yes, we waited until the bus was full... But we still got the full 2 hours at the site, which was enough for us. It was a mere 10 Euro return pp. The communication with them was iffy, but since cruisers before us reported that there was no train whatsoever to be found, we were satisfied with the "deal".
Just google "Katakolon to Olympia Bus Service".
Thanks, that's what we are going to do

There were buses available to go to Olympia at € 15 each,
Wow if that was June I wonder if they'll even run the train in November. Is that 15 euros each way or round trip? Thanks

we used Andreas Stamos for transportation to Olympia
Do you remember how much that was?

Thank you both. I did see the Katakolon Express and noticed it was more expensive than the other tour buses. Thought that was odd but still cheaper than the ship tour. Might have to do that unless I can figure something else out.

Actually, in my experience, yes this is is one of the European ports with a sort of tour vendors right at the port. Tickets for a bus transfer with a basic outside tour are sold in various offices.
Be prepared to be self guided within the archeological site.
Ok great, and yeah, self guided is fine. I'm just hoping that we aren't outside of tourist season and everything is closed. Really odd that the other tour company I found doesn't have anything listed after October 31st.

Not sure why a train would be iffy? Train systems in Europe are awesome.
No, there won't be tour vendors at the port. That is typically not done in Europe.
Have you actually been there? People that go to that area a lot would tell your otherwise. In fact, other people on these boards have said the same thing.

Obviously I can book through NCL but I'd rather not given the expense
I know that there is a train but I've heard that it is very iffy
So I'd like to go with a local company, don't need a guide, just transportation. I found one company through Viator/Tripadvisor but it looks like they aren't doing any tours after October 31st. Therefore, does anyone have any other suggestions? Will there be tour companies offering transportation to Olympia outside of the cruise port?

Thanks!

On the NCL Star soon and we're stopping in Volos for the last full day. We will be in too late (noon) to get to Meteora and back. There is only one tour offered by the ship and it didn't seem too exciting. I tried to look at private tours but most I found were either very expensive private tours or tours involving snorkeling, kayaking or swimming. Since it'll be November, not really interested in that. Any other ideas?

I am asking about NCL's tours.

Cruise is on Nov 5th and the last full day is in Volos. I know it's big thing is Meteora but apparently we can't go there because we don't get in until noon. NCL has been having a ton of problems so I can't even find out what tours are available there let alone book anything until I actually get on the ship. So if Meteora is out of the question, what else do you recommend? Right now the only thing listed anywhere on NCL's website is Go Green-The Aeiphoria Project which I have no interest in.
-
I checked again, still nothing. So I searched for shore excursions in general and then filtered by port. This is the only thing that came up for Volos at all. I have to imagine they have more than just this. Can anyone confirm before I get a chance to call?

Maybe a month out is the point at which the vendors decide there wasn't enough interest in their excursion, when they just pull it from the docking.
The issue is that NCL doesn't even show that the port exists.

I would recommend giving NCL ShoreEx department a call. There was a port on my cruise leaving in a week and a half that never had options show up, but when I called, they had excursions available.
That's what I'm going to do when I get a chance. I was just wondering what was up with this thanks

Not sure if this matters or not but the cast that was doing the Alaska run will not be leaving the ship.

I'll be on the Star in about a month. I wanted to book an excursion to Meteora when were in Volos but NCL isn't showing anything. I think there was one excursion that I wasn't interested in previously but now when I click on Volos, this is what I get:

I relaxed in the hot tub for a little while. Then went back to the the room for a nap. Passed right out. As we were leaving for dinner a house keeper supervisor stopped us to give us his card so we could call with any issues. I thought that was nice. Our steward is great so I doubt we'll need to call.
