  1. No that's fine listening to everyone experience is ideal. I say kids...15 and 18 so they happy to walk around as well and visit new places.

I'm not a beach person either to be honest, but the last cruise it was in middle of week and was ideal just to chill on there and walk along in sea for a few hours, so would be nice on this as well.

What I don't want is for the 3 Portugal to just be the same, walking around very I can imagine similar places, I'd rather have something definite to visit to break it all up ideally.

    Thanks

  2. Appreciate reply thanks.

Gibraltar I think I'll enjoy, sounds like exactly what I'd want to do, well me and son not sure on girls with the height ha ha.

The others that you describe sound very similar though, that's my initial worry. They'll be lovely places it's just I'd prefer a bit of variety. Is there a beach on one of the Portugal stops? That would break it up.

Obviously the price reflects the ports visited a little I think, as others, abliet not on the older spirit, are much more expensive.

    Thanks

  3. Not sure if this is a new tour, but wondering if anyone been on it before, the ports of call I mean.

    Visiting:

    Malaga, Costa Del Sol

    Porto, Portugal

    Lisbon, Portugal

    Portimao, Portugal

    Cadiz (for Seville), Spain

    Gibraltar, Gibraltar

    Malaga, Costa Del Sol

What I'm a little concerned on is the lack of variety, whereby there is 3 visits, one after another, to Portugal.

We've been on one cruise before, Thomson cruise, majesty in 2016 around Med and really enjoyed it. It visited Barcelona, Monaco, Pisa, Marseille, Corsica. This was varied had good sites to see, beach day at Corsica in middle of cruise was really good.

Apart from Gibraltar which never been, and would look forward to, nothing else sticks out really.

Now this at moment is half price for our family around July/Aug so I know "you get what pay for", don't mind that is just with the 3 visits to Portugal wondering what to do and experiences of them. We are a family of four, "kids" 15 and 18.

Anyone did this cruise please? It's on the Spirit which I known is now the oldest ship, but still seems ok is it?

Thanks in advance of any comments, positive or negative.

    Cheers

  4. Is Majesty retiring from Thomson this year? If so is it after the summer season?

Is this a bad point if booking for a cruise in late summer? eg maybe it won't be up to full standard as on run down?

Is the shop being retired totally or being sold to another cruise line?

I read sometime after Sep that it broke down, had a fire, and missed at least one stop off? What happens in this case for passengers etc?

    Thanks

  5. Looking at going on Discovery 2 in the summer. We have 2 adults, and 2 "kids" of 14 and 17. Last year we were on the majesty and had 2 cabins, so was great, although the cabins has a pull down bed in I wouldn't have liked another person in!

So I believe the inside plus are bigger than outside, by how much? Is the outside big enough for 4 people? Is the inside plus?

I know discovery 2 isn't joining until later this year but believe the discovery is the same?

    Thanks

  6. In standard cabins, where and how big are the safes in them please? and also how much for a week?

Sounds daft, but how "safe" are the safes? Would they fit a laptop in? iPad? How many?

I expect most people get a safe do they for their gadgets and passports and money to be stored safely?

What type are they? A number code of your choosing, like we've had in hotels in past?

What other tips please for safety of our gadgets, money, passports and documents on a cruise (newbies!)

    Thanks

  7. Accupressure wrist bands work really well for my sea sickness. I put them on the night before embarkation' date=' and leave them on. Normally, I'm ok after a few days and can stow them away, but I keep them handy in case the boat starts rocking again.

I do carry meclizine with me just in case I get sick despite the wrist bands. I haven't needed the medication on the last few cruises, but it's much cheaper to buy at home and carry it with me than it is to get it on board. Ginger and green apples have never helped me much.

+1 on the advice to talk to your doctor about any medications. I cannot use the sea sickness patches - they make me hallucinate. Others rave about them. We are all different, and tolerate medications differently.[/quote']

Thanks for suggestion, is it something like this?

Sea-Band Wrist Band Drug Free Nausea Relief https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000LNEB0Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_zwuExb03B92FW

If so I'll buy some and put them on for use all to see.

  8. Going on our first cruise, wife suffers from vertigo/motion sickness. We are sailing around the Med in July, not sure if calm or not...hopefully!

What are the best things to get/take please. We are from UK so can either goto boots or local GP.

What are the things that they use on board if you see a doctor? I can imagine they are good whatever they are so can you get them in boots or from as GP?

Any tips please, kids coming to and can imagine they might suffer to. I want to be as prepared as I can!

    Thanks

  9. Yeh prob won't be duty free or cheaper than Asda say, but it WILL be cheaper than the cruise!

We just want a bottle for the room really, not going to fill a bag up!, we're not big drinkers, just be nice to have a bottle in room. So the airport or "duty" free shop at Palma will be fine, its more the getting it on the ship that I'm unsure of.

Even would buy before going, but not bothered, just buy at airport then put in case after we pickup in Palma airport. Also big bottle of coke etc?

    thanks

  10. Never tried that always just want to get our cases, don't like Palma airport, I have done as W CM suggested and also purchased from the ' duty free' it is cheaper, shop in the port.

No not in Palma, in our departure airport, in UK. It would be duty free then? Could you not buy there, collect cases in Palma, put the booze in cases before get on coach, and then all ok?

  11. One thing to remember - there is no duty free alcohol shop during this cruise so it's good to buy your favourite tipple for your cabin in Palma.

There is a huge Carrefour about a 10-15 minute stroll from the ship............walk out of the port area, across the main drag dual carriageway and turn left, walking away from Palma. Around a bend is a big shopping mall with the supermarket in the basement............large and low priced range of drinks.

Don't buy it at the port "duty free" shop - it ain't duty free and it is overpriced.

Never done a cruise, are you allowed to take your own booze on, within reason obviously?

So from your above, we could drop our cases off on sail day, go back into Palma (how? easy to?), then buy some booze and bring it on board, and we won't get stopped or told we can't bring it on?

I'm just thinking of buying a bottle of spirits for the cabin, as we don't have the AI drinks package.

    thanks

  12. Thanks for info, can you elaborate on thomson Monaco trip, where, time etc. I really want to do Monaco so booked that one, it's the longer one as there were 2 as well.

Calvi happy to walk as above.

Barca happy to pop on local bus once confirmed which then

Pisa want to do so unsure whether to do Thomson trip or not.

Marseille, not a clue really, what's to do/see?

  13. Can someone help with the procedure please below, being a first timer unsure how all this works! This is on the Thomson majesty, doing the med tour.

    1) On landing at the airport do you go straight to the ship to book in. We'll land about 1pm, ship leaves at 11pm

    2) are we entitled to board and use the facilities straight away, lunch, dinner etc? Can we come off/on after, is it far to go somewhere?

    3) if not do Thomson take your luggage on board and you can stay in Palma or somewhere for a bit?

    4) when you leave, as we may goto hotel afterwards as part of the package, do Thomson take your luggage, and you get on bus, or do we have to get luggage?

    Thanks

  14. Having never been on a cruise, but reading on here and TA I presumed that outside would be better.

Disappointed that there's no cabin to fit us all in, but suppose we will get a little more room, but downside that we might not be together, which I'd much prefer, especially as it's a first cruise, not knowing what/where/how to do stuff.

If it's only £42 to get together then I would defo pay (is it £42 per room though, ie £84?)

Still unsure on decks 3/4 or 8/9 though, having no experience, open to suggestions. Booking online would I then phone Thomson and ask for 2 cabins together as no option online.

The itenary looks great and what is attracting us, Monaco, Corsica, Pisa, Palma etc, I'll read the review thanks.

  15. Thomson majesty, July.

The cabin option for all 4 in one cabin has now gone. There is still an option, strangely the same price, for 2 cabins now. Disappointed, but it is late booking suppose.

Now there's an option of an inside or an outside for the same price basically, so which should I go for?

Also for not much more, think about £50 there is option of decks 3/4 or decks 8/9? Having never been on a cruise can someone recommend please.

Also as booking online, there doesn't seem an option, to get the cabins together. Is this possible? Suppose will cost? What are the chances of getting them together? I'd prefer obviously, as imagine this ship is massive and so to go between the rooms might take ages.

How would we communicate between rooms also? Is there a free telephone service? Mobiles would be costly if they would work at all?

  16. Thinking of doing a cruise with family, around Med, just for 7 days as unsure on the whole thing tbh, few questions though for a 1st timer...it will be on west med in Thomson majesty sailing from Palma.

    1) All tips etc included, don't think we'll get the drinks package as not worth it for what we'd have, so how much are drinks, soft, water etc? Budget for a family of 4? Do you get drinks included at meal times if haven't got the drinks package?

    2) On a full board, what about in between meals, available free/cost snacks? Drinks? ice-cream?

    3) the cabin will be an inside for all 4, 2 teenagers, I expect to be small, but is it ok? We'll be out and about, on trips anyway. TV? WiFi?

    4) is there WiFi avaiable at all times? Is it free? If not, how much, is it per person, or family, or all will have a tablet and phone.

    5) dress code, not bothered on black tie do's, won't go, but what about normal meal times? I'm on holiday to relax don't want to dress up if have to.

    6) what is the Thomson majesty like, good standard? Any Problems?

    7) entertainment, do you have to book the shows? Pay?

    8) what plugs are in cabins and around ship, UK? Or need an adapter?

    9) there's a few trips I would do a defo, Monaco being one, are the Thomson trips the best? Happy to pay, this one's £50/each. Another stop is Corsica, what to do here just a beach?

    10) heard some bad reports on the state of the Majesty ship which we will chose for the West Med trip. Sounds like needs a refurb etc. I know cabins will be small, we'll hopefully only use for sleeping and getting ready, but with 2A and 2 teenagers, it might be very cramped in one inside cabin will it?

    11) Having never been on a cruise, the kids especially, are nervous on the actual cruise/trip itself, and also what there is to do? Is there plenty to do, enough for them to go off themselves and try things? (although they'll stick to me I think)

    12) Is a safe in every cabin? Ours would be an inside cabin, does it cost to use? Is it safe to use! as in when out on excursions etc?

    13) Over and above a "normal" beach holiday we would need some extra smart/casual wear, and what about towels, or specifically anything else?

    14) Can you buy stuff on excursions and bring on, drinks and food etc? Do you get searched when regarding for this sort of stuff?

Any general tips, what to do/not to etc
