  1. I am just off the Explorer of the Seas Pacific Coast Cruise. On this cruise we were given a written survey in our stateroom several days into the cruise. We were called on our cabin phone on our last night for a survey about the food and then we received our post survey via email.

The staff is so freaked out about these surveys. They are so heightened by any and everything you say as a cruiser. For example, I asked for my meat to be cooked a bit more and you could tell the server was upset that it wasn't 'perfect'. This in turn made me feel bad for making the request. In a normal setting, they are more than happy to accommodate but on my latest cruises they seem to get uptight when you veer from the script.

Many of the staff mentioned the survey and that they needed a 10 as a bonus incentive. I am really tired of this speech. Not everyone does it but I have noticed it more and more each time I cruise.

I am all for rewarding the crew for good service but somehow these surveys feel like they are holding the crew hostage and making me, the cruiser, feel pressured.

Perhaps I am overreacting but it just bugged me this time around so I thought I would vent here.

    Thanks for reading ;)

  2. Escape the Rubicon. When we went reservations were available almost every day at every hour and filled up quick. Maximum of 12 people can go in at one time. It was only 8.99 last summer but I'm going again next month and it is now 19.99 per person. Not sure it is worth it but I can say that since I've done it once. You may want to pay to try it once. It was fun. Later in the week, I believe on the last sea day, they have a free "puzzle break" in the on air club which my family thought was just as fun. You just have to look for it in the cruise compass. We would probably have missed it if the Escape room leader hadn't told us about it.

    Enjoy!!

    Found this in another thread.

  3. I have seldom signed for a drink in the casino once the waitress /waiter knows I have the sticker on my card. This has been on multiple ships

ah, good point - you are correct with waiter/waitress. When I go directly to the casino bar (which is my preference), I have had to sign on different ships but maybe that isn't a strict policy.

  4. Has anyone ever got the free drink peeler stickers in the casino? I got some left from my last cruise and wondering if I could use them on my next cruise? R they all the same look?

If you have a sticker from casino host on your card, you still have to sign for it at the bar (with zero charge). Since the host keeps track of it maybe it may not work on future cruises? Although since hosts are always so busy they may not get around to checking the bar tab reports perhaps...

  5. Btw

Was on anthem on nov 30th.

The food and service was a little bit rough around the edges (expected on a new ship with new crew) but for this current cruise we ate at Chic on Saturday night and it was awesome - so happy to see such improvement in both service and food quality. Way to go RCCL!

  6. I'm glad it seems it's all cosmetic and that they are getting the ship back in order. I hope everyone is ok and the cruise can continue on to all of the planned ports.

Karina - your pics are amazing.

Anyone know how GiGi the Giraffe is after the storm?

LOL! During the storm I saw Gigi on the itinerary cam and told her to hang in there! They shut down the outside cams in the evening (other than the main pool). The last alternative cam I saw was of the Royal Explanade and it showed the crew unbalanced and running around trying to prevent damage... so I think to calm the passengers down they shut it off...

  7. Glad you are safe. It sounds like a very scary experience. It did not come out of nowhere though, that storm has been forecasted for a week.

P.S. Isn't it funny how the casino is always one of the first things up and running after something like this...

Yes it was forecasted but it took a turn for the worse and no one had knowledge that it would be this bad.

I am happy to have casino open - anything for a distraction - I would have been in it last night had it been open!!!! Sure, RCCL makes money off of it but as a passenger I welcome the distraction after such an exhausting night!

  8. Deck 7 aft balcony starboard. Just above the lifeboats. Water was smacking at our doors so that was a bit unsettling...

Crazy night and so happy we had the Super Bowl on in our room to distract us.

We did list significantly - don't care about the degree, it was enough that i had to hang on to not fall out of bed :)

It was an uphill battle to get to the bathroom. I sat in the bathroom for a bit as I kept thinking we might overturn and felt panicky about water crashing through the balcony doors. I almost was going to sit in the corridor so if we did tip over at least

That being said, I am not typically a worry wart so this storm emotionally feels like it took five years off my life!

Excellent how the staff is up and about this morning - no one had any sleep and they served a nice, limited breakfast in American Icon. Well done Anthem crew - so proud of you and your outstanding service in duress!

They are having trivia each hour in Schooner bar and casino and some bars are open. No news yet on our fate - we are headed to Port Canaveral but we don't know if we are continuing on etc...

I have been reading the foolish posts of people blaming the Captain. Guys - this came out of no where. He did not purposely sail through it. Yes, we knew there would be bad weather but stop pointing fingers. He was grace under pressure. He tried to keep us up to date and when it got really bad and he couldn't speak because he was navigating the ship out of trouble, the cruise director kept us up to date (let me tell you he spoke with a lot of angst and panic in his voice unlike the captain!!)

Chalking this up to another experience at sea! Yup it really, really sucked and was scary but we made it through!

  9. Years ago I ran into the same thing so we ended up doing Carnival for both Mediterranean and Baltic and then did NCL for Hawaii. Even though I didn't love the decor or layouts of the ships, it was truly a better value. We barely spent any time on the ships and go to see the ports for a fraction of the cost of RCCL. They were not wild, party ships and the food was great. I love RCCL for the Caribbean and will pay the extra $ because I spend more time on the ship, but in Europe you may be able to save a ton of money trying other cruise lines.
