Our Pig & Anchor dinner on Carnival Jubilee last week was included and served inside.  You pencil in your selections on a form and they bring them out to you.  My wife thought the salmon was a bit too sweet.  They have two prime rib selections (by size).  I couldn't finish the smaller one - but I wasn't super hungry either.  One bonus is that the excellent Backyard Band was playing there when we ate.  We returned to see them a few times during the week.

    Hope that helps some.

Nice! Thanks for the inside scoop! 🙂

Were those included or for a fee? For lunch it was outside on the deck kinda buffet style except you told the server behind the counter what you wanted.

It sounds like dinner is more of a sit-down style. I might have to try it when I sail the Jubilee next January!

It is definitely worth trying! When we went for dinner in December, the first time everything was amazing. The second time the portions we a little small (but still very tasty), but the beans were burnt and were not great. Wouldn't stop us from going again on this next cruise though!

  3. Thank you for all the replies everyone! We definitely plan on doing lunch at the Pig & Anchor, and dinner at Chibang one night. The MDR is fine for a couple nights, but were looking at other options than the trough- which is where we end up most nights anyway, haha.

Inaugural season or not, we are looking forward to a super awesome cruise this summer!

  4. Howdy!

My mom and I have a cruise planned in mid/late June on the Jubilee. We were lucky enough to snag a spot on her inaugural sailing- which we definitely enjoyed. Previously, the for fee restaurants like Pig and anchor and Chibang waived their fees during her inaugural season. However, I am not sure how long an inaugural season is. Does anyone have an idea how long her inaugural season is? Thanks in advance!

  5. Hello all,

I know the Carnival transfer service has been used before, so those of you who have used it (specifically from Hobby to the pier and back), how was your experience?

Background info that might be pertinent: There are two of us, we are driving to the airport (not flying) and looking to use carnivals transfer service. We have rented a car because ours is older and don't want to put the stress or risk with that. Rentals are extremely expensive through the rental company I typically use, because they aren't doing a one way rental, so we'd have to rent for the week and pay parking just to have it sit there. Another company is much cheaper and allows drop off if its at an airport. So we are looking into the airport transfers by carnival.

Any advice, or past experience is appreciated!

It's absolutely concerning for that new of a ship to have that issue. it may or may not have to go to dry dock. Remember, the three cruises before the start are each extended a day, so now you are down to 18 days. Then, presumably, they would want time, after the repair, to "road test" it. Finally, remember, they probably didn't want to cut a cruise in half, so it might be ready to roll 4-5 days before the next scheduled cruise. Probably use the time to clean up other things, etc.

Of course if it's something exterior to the ship as opposed to in the engine room, then yes, I would think dry dock is a given. Is there anywhere in Texas they can dry dock it, or would it have to go all the way to Freeport?

Didn't Horizon have a propulsion problem last August?

  7. I was on the July 13, and the July 20th sailing as my first B2B and "turning platinum" cruise. I am super bummed, but when considering 1: The alternative of getting stuck out in open ocean with no propulsion if the other one went, and two: the compensation package offered, which I think is more than fair... it is what it is. As someone above said, a ship is a big machine, and sometimes things go wrong unexpectedly. Every time I book a cruise, its a gamble. Of course usually not a problem, but still, a gamble.

I'm a teacher, so I'm lucky not to have to switch around vacation time, but with everyone on these sailing scrambling for other options, there isn't much in terms of ships/staterooms. I had my heart set on my beloved cove balcony!  Hopefully, I can find at least one 7 day on the freedom that would be nice, and the 4/5 day that the Dream is running isn't at the top of my list. As I type this out, I realize it makes me sound super picky, but I just want something comparable in length out of Galveston, as flying is not an option for my travel partner, and neither is keen on a longer drive to the port (we're coming from San Antonio).

I feel AWFUL for those who were planning to be married on the ship, or at a port, I can't even imagine...

I know I should know better, but my only question is, the FCC is for the total amount paid for the booking, correct? For example, if my total was 2800, my FCC would be 2800, less port fees, taxes, and gratuities (which were prepaid of course.)

  8. Hey y'all! I'm one of those not so timely intermittent posters (Sorry!) Things are crazy at the school this time of year with the looming state testing, so I've been having less fun, haha.

I believe my last posting was on the mid-March thread... Anyway, I have been stuck at the same weight for the last week and a half or so, and feeling mopey about it. I've been trying to focus on other victories, clothes fitting differently, not eating half a cake from Administrative Processionals day at school (SO MUCH CAKE), etc. I did have a small piece, but I figured I had to live a little. It ended up being almost inedible because it was so sickly sweet. I scraped off the icing and it was much better! Bonus- less calories, LOL!

I weighed in today, and I was down! Only a .5 pound, but as always, a lower number is a lower number no matter how small. Persistence pays off.

  9. Awesome job on the losses, y'all! Darn those delectable chocolate eggs... There were lots of goodies at the school this week, but I managed to restrain myself for the most part, haha. SO MANY DONUTS!! Been at the gym 5/6 days this week, but will likely have another rest day.

I'm down 3 and some change this week, even though I forgot to post yesterday (Work life rules the world during state testing season).

  10. Hey y'all! I'm fashionably late to the weigh in party, but I just found this board on CC, which is perfect timing because I need some accountability, haha. My next cruise isn't until mid July (congrats to all who have one earlier!). I teach, so my cruise schedule falls around my job. I could prattle on and on but I will try to stick to the facts.

Starting weight: 448 (January 16th, just realized it's been 3 months, whoop!)

    Current Weight: 390

I had a 4lb loss this week, after being "stuck" for about a week or so!  I do 30-60 mins of cardio 3-5 times a week. but recently added in some strength training, and I think that's what helped get things moving on the scale.

Congrats to all who had losses this week, no matter how small! As far as I'm concerned, as long as the scale is going down, or the clothes are getting looser, its a win in my book!

  11. Ummm think about this dad. Are you sure you want side by side cabins with your adult married children?!!?!?

I know you have good intentions. But the space might be a GREAT thing with paper thin walls. IMJS

    This.

I mean, I'm sure it's obvious that adult activities are taking place, since they are married... but implied is MUCH different than auditory confirmations.

  12. I was in a cove balcony on the Breeze for a Spring Break cruise, and as soon as I opened the door, I knew there were going to be problems with the mattress on the bed. It was horrible, all compressed and u-shaped. It was literally curving up on the sides and ends. I was so tired the first night, that I fell asleep without thinking and awoke in the middle of the night with the most outrageous back pain. There was no way I was going to spend a minute more on that mattress, so I took my sheet and pillow and moved to the couch. I slept wonderfully the rest of the night, and woke up with minimal soreness (residual from the crappy mattress, I'm assuming) I spent the rest of the 6 days sleeping on the couch, and was very pleased. Hopefully they were able to switch out the mattress for the next occupants.

In short, I am 5'10, and not exactly a skinny minnie, and I thought the couch was more than adequate.

  13. Not the poster but a fellow San Antonian. We drive a little further in the night before Galveston cruises. Usually all the way in into atleast League City, mainly because we worry about something going wrong. Traffic in Houston is the worst. It took us two hours to get across town once. And there's always construction on 45 into Galveston. It's best to try to do early mornings to get past the traffics, especially in the summer when so many Houstonians heading to the island
Hit the nail on the head with your response.

  14. Interesting? Is this simply to avoid some rush hour issue in Houston mid morning on the day of the cruise. Because my sis in law uses that technique to get to the Emerald Coast from Nashville. The traffic is SO brutal that they'll drive into the night getting as far south as they can to beat the Saturday rush. Now admittedly that's a 8 hour run, even in perfect conditions.
It is most definitely to avoid traffic. When my sister lived in Galveston, and we would go visit her, the family would always leave at an obscure morning hour, and get to Galveston around 6am.

Leaving that late, we avoid San Antonio traffic, and Houston traffic. The fisrt time we made the drive at that time, it was purely an accident because we were going to leave around 4am, but we were packed and ready. My mom was also excited as it was her first cruise, so we ended up driving straight through to Galveston, and watched the ships come in in the morning. Now we usually stop in the same place right inside of Katy.

It works for us, and we enjoy driving at night with no traffic.

  15. Hello Everyone!

I will be doing a 5 night cruise from Galveston in a few weeks. I cruised the Carnival Valor last year, but our boarding experience & first day was a little different due to getting on the day Tropical Storm Cyndi made landfall (boarding was delayed).

    1. Someone in my family (not me) is a Platinum VIFP member. Will she be able to enter the terminal right away? Our cruise is out of Terminal #2 in Galveston. I know at Galveston's Terminal #1 Platinum/Diamond cruisers get to enter the building a little before the staggered check-in process begins for everyone else, but was wondering if this is the case for terminal #2.

    2. On the Carnival Valor the muster stations are outside on Deck 4 (unfortunately). Someone in my family, due a series of medical issues that occurred last year, cannot stand outside in the heat for the entire length of the drill. She already contacted Carnival to ask about the alternative special needs/assistance muster station and they told her to inquire at Guest Services the day of embarkation. Does anyone know where this special muster station meets? Any information on this would be appreciated!

    Thank you!

Special needs muster typically meets in the dining room on the 4th deck. All you have to do is show up, and you are good to go. Double check with guest services when you board to check location. They let special needs muster go before general muster if you need to make use of the elevator.

I will also be on the Valor in a few weeks. I love the conquest class, getting on board the Valor is like coming home, lol.

  16. Enterprise will pick you up/drop off from the terminal. I have used enterprise every time I drive to Galveston to cruise. We usually have Joe pick up and drop us off. He's lovely! Have been using this service for iver a year, and just used it in March. Highly recommend!

  17. I would get FTTF not only for access to your cabin which is not included per Carnival (although others have reported different results), but also for the Guest Services line. No one plans on going there, but if you do you will be super glad you have it. For those that don’t agree with my statement, I actually emailed Guest Services to verify this very thing. Here is my email followed by Carnival’s reply.

This is 100% accurate. I had previously asked the same question and recieved various answers. After being advised by FBW that suites were not ready upon embarkation, I decided to ask a CSR, for carnival when I called about a different issue, and they stated the same answer FBW did. Same question, different people. Same answer from carnival.

I'd keep FTTF if it were me. I wasn't quick enough on the draw for mine!
