It looks like he is engaged in something more than singing on port days...:)

I wonder if it is true that the very best wait staff on any ship get transferred to the newest ship(s) in the Celebrity fleet. Anyone know if that's the current policy (or politics)?

The more I read the posts, the more it has become obvious to me that in many cases the waiters on cruises tend to become much more than just someone who delivers the food. Many passengers and their waiters seem to form a very special bond/friendship that transcends the here and now of the cruise experience. What a lovely benefit of cruising...

That's what I would like as well. But it seems an impossible task since none of my inquiries to Celebrity were ever answered. I am not sure who would even be able to give me an answer.

Do you remember on what ship/cruise/year she was your waiter?

I was interested to see Alfred as a favorite waiter on Milennium. We will be on the January 2nd sailing, and I wonder if there is any way to request a waiter?

I often wonder the same thing. Wouldn't it be great if we could call or e-mail Celebrity (or even the ship itself) and ask if a specific staff member was onboard for a particular sailing? I wish that was possible but I have never been able to even find out about a specific band which I liked (ONYX, from way back) and whether they would be on a particular ship. No one was ever able to give me their whereabouts.

When you meet someone in life who is special or gives excellent or outstanding service you just never forget and visa versa!

 

We have met some stellar crew on cruise ships and that makes cruisiing worthwhile. Its more then the food or the entertainment or the drinks IMO.

 

There have been some excellent restaurants managers:

Big Mario (just left last month)

 

Chaydee from S Africia (no longer with X)

 

Ally Still with X

 

Nikola (one of my favorites)

 

Czijka from Poland Still with X

 

Millivoy Still with X

 

Each of the above bring back a fond memory still..

It is the same for me.

I hope cruise lines realize that their (wait) staff plays a huge role in making a cruise a success (or not). That is why I started this thread...to highlight passengers' acknowledgment of some very special people who contribute so much to our enjoyment of a cruise.

Zaza was our asst. server on the Galaxy back in 2004! I can't recall the name of the waiter we had at the time, but he's since been promoted to Butler on the Summit. As a team they couldn't be beat, and we've NEVER had anyone like the two of them again. If I recall she was from Hungary.....and she is BEAUTIFUL!! I still have pictures of both of them!

 

Now it makes me want to go through all of my old cruise scrapbooks and find out HIS name!

I think I may have met Zaza on one of my cruises a long time ago (her description by you and another poster seem very familiar to me) but for some reason I didn't think she was from Hungary. All I know is that she seemed a very kind person and a great waitress.

You say that you have pictures of her and the waiter she worked with. Would you be able to post those pictures (or a link to them) here? I would love to know if we are talking about the same woman.

By the way, the waiter you would like to acknowledge for his/her exceptional service doesn't need to have been your MDR waiter. It can include any of the wait staff in any of the other venues on the ship. They all work very hard to keep us happy.

I think I met Polat on one of my recent cruises. He was extremely gracious and knowledgable.

I am quite impressed that you remember all the names. I guess they really did a great job to stay so memorable and that's saying something.

Our favorite was a wonderful woman (our first and only female waiter:) ) who called herself Zaza because she said her name was too hard for people. We met 3 years ago this month on a Christmas cruise. She was SO wonderful...her husband worked on the ship, too, but we never met him. Her customer service was exemplary. We always dined at her table...never rushed nor too long --just the perfect amount of time for a pleasant evening. She always escorted us to the lift after dinner and thanked us for a lovely evening. She was a very special woman. We hope all her wishes have come true in the passing years and that she has the baby they so wanted.

 

She made the nicest memories we have of that trip.

It is true that very few waiters on cruise lines are women. I wonder why. Maybe they are not considered strong enough to carry the heavy, dish laden trays?

Ercan from Turkey is the best, we have had him twice on Constellation Transatlantics and I hope to see him again and have the pleasure of his service on another cruise.

Yes, I had him on Constellation Transatlantic as well and he is great.

Juan left last year and couldnt live without the excitment and is now on the Infinity and having a great time as a waiter.

it must have been difficult to adjust to a "regular" life on land after seeing so many new people with each new cruise. I am sure that even though monetary consideration (income) is primary reason for most of the people to work on ships I also think that it takes a certain kind of personality to enjoy this kind of work. People who choose to work on a cruise ship must get bored easily without some kind of excitement and change in their workplace.

site it is best to give kudos to those folks while on your cruise....:D

I always do, making sure that Celebrity is aware of any exceptional service. I also try to mention these wonderful workers by name to their superiors while still on my cruise. They certainly deserve all the kudos so it definitely doesn't hurt to have another venue to showcase those who deserve it.

There are a few that come to mind, but I think that Gede, from Bali, took care of us the best! He was on Constellation in November 2008.

I have heard that name mentioned a few times before in some Celebrity threads. He must indeed be very good to be mentioned so often. I am pretty sure that there are people from Celebrity who read posts on this board so I am hoping that perhaps they will read this and some of these deserving workers will get a nice promotion. They certainly deserve it.

Yes, you can leave your daughter on the ship while you are on shore, but they will charge you for hours that they are not in sessions - 12 to 2PM

Our 9 year old was on about 9-10 cruises and did not see the formal night yet in the dining room. To think of it, she never been with us in the dining room. Much easier for us and her to leave her in the program. I think our older kids start going when they turned 11 or 12.

We been on various Celebrity ships with our 3 children about 10 times over the years and kids loved it every time. Destination really does not matter - if it's during school holidays kids will be there of all ages. As far as my kids, they loved most lover age programs. When they got to mid teens they mostly went there to meet kids of their age and not to participate. We are going to be on Baltic cruise this summer with our 9 year old and she can not wait to get to the Fun Factory.
