  1. Oh man, I can't think of a worse place for someone in AA. Alcohol flows like water on cruise ships. I do think the lady could have had a better attitude, but more than likely she had to deal with multiple people coming in with drinks, and was probably frustrated. That's why you always leave a note. I have never been to the library on a cruise ship, but I am surprised drinks are allowed. Maybe the lady was a librarian at home so you doubly pissed her off.

  2. I just applied for a Carnival credit card(approved). I plan to charge the cruise cost, transportation, cheers and anything else I can(double points for Carnival charges). I will redeem for on board credit. This can pay for excursions or on board credit for things I want to purchase. Has anybody else done this?

Yes. I booked my cruise, gratuity, excursions, cheers, and other various carnival expenses on my Carnival MasterCard. I have also been using it to pay for my daughters daycare ($10,000 a year). Originally I was going to use the points for OBC, but now I think I will just take cash back on my initial cruise purchase. I also use the card anywhere that I don't get better points on my other credit cards.

I got the card in December and I am up to 28,246 points. I am a strong believer in paying everything with a credit card and earning points.

  3. I can see where you are thinking the $100 OBC not being a big deal. To own 100 shares of CCL stock, $100 of Credit is not the big deal. But CCL is a good sound investment anyway. Pays a good dividend and is a strong, good company. And if you are going to cruise CCL anyway, might as well get the $100 Credit.

I didn't buy the stock for the credit, but for the company.

I have been tempted to buy, if I started investing now I might be able to get to 100 shares by next cruise in 2017 or 2018. I wish my 401k let me pick a specific stock.

  4. If Husband and wife each buy 100 shares then you can put 1 parent in each room and get the OBC for each cabin.

Otherwise whoever's name is on the stock as owner can only get the OBC for the cabin they are in.

I see lots of people talking about owning 100 shares in CCl. I don't get it. I mean the OBC perk is great, but one will never get their return on it. Unless you bought the stock a long time ago when the price per share was low, I don't see the investment benefits looking at the past 5 years. Can someone shed light on this for me? I am fairly new at investing and looking for places to stick my money, why do you own CCL stock?

  5. Never took a liking to the dancing waiters, always felt like most were doing it because they HAD to. Kind of reminded me of the poor muzzled dancing bears at the circus.

Most chain restaurants make their wait staff perform for birthdays and other special events.

I might have to swing by the buffet in October during early dining to see the difference between the buffet and MDR.

  6. N.Y. or Filet for me, my wife does not eat meat and said the Sea Bass was melt in your mouth amazing. The soups, especially the lobster bisque is to die for.

Did you order more than one app? I am going to have a hard time deciding.

  7. The second formal night is chateaubriand in the MDR and while it's good, it's not worth skipping your anniversary in the steakhouse. IMHO, CCL has the BEST steakhouse in the cruising industry :)

What is your favorite entree in the steak house?

Is the steak house lobster a greater portion than the MDR?

  8. For me it's all about the experience I normally wouldn't get at home. I have 3 young children, and the wife an I rarely get out to a restaurant, let alone a fancy restaurant. So when we are on the cruise ship, we only eat the buffet if nothing else is available. I love the MDR and have not been disappointed.

I have never eaten dinner at the buffet on the ship, and do not plan on it in the future.

  9. I am going on a 7 day cruise on the Carnival Dream October 9th. October 14th is my 10 year wedding anniversary, and I was planning on going to the steak house that night. My dilemma is October 14th is also the 2nd formal night, and I really don't want to go to the steak house on a formal night. My question, should I go to the steak house on my anniversary, or do the steak house on a different night. Are there any menu benefits of attending the 2nd formal night? My past 2 cruises only had 1 formal night, and of course I love lobster. If I reschedule the steakhouse then technically I will have 3 formal nights.

Side note, I am doing the Cheers! program so the free wine on the first night is moot point.

TL;DR Should I skip 2nd formal night for the steak house, or schedule the steak house for a different night?

  10. I assume there is a notation on your Sign & Sail card that you have purchased the Cheers package? So...you're good to go as soon as you board in New Orleans? I love the Fun Ship Special and look forward to that first one!

You cannot get the fancy glasses with cheers!. I have a cruise out of NOLA in October!

  11. We are cruising in a week (yay!) and even though I don't think we will "break even" on Cheers, we bought it. Let me explain.

My husband is not a big drinker at all, but he does drink. At home, he drinks a beer pretty much every night and enjoys a glass of wine with dinner. There is NO WAY he will drink enough to make up for the cost of Cheers (me, on the other hand....I love those fruity concoctions on vacation!)

So why in he world would we get Cheers? Without Cheers, he won't drink at all on the cruise because he hates to spend money on a drink by drink basis. Even if he would enjoy a beer or a glass of wine, he won't order one because of the cost.

So for us, Cheers is my way of getting him to loosen up and enjoy himself during the cruise. That is worth the extra cost, right there.

It might sound stupid, but psychologically there just something different about the fact that it's paid for up front so you can relax and enjoy yourself without having to worry.

I'll keep track and see how we do. I'm not going to TRY to break even (because that doesn't sound fun, either) but I am interested to see how we do. The addition of the bottled waters and coffee drinks, etc. really made the difference--I'm looking forward to having as much bottled water as I want plus San Pelligrino in the MDR.

So--even if we don't "break even", I think Cheers will enhance our vacation experience so much that it will be worth the cost. And THAT is worth paying for.

I am going to murder the cheers program! I have a cruise in October, and my goal is to double the daily cost. I am glad to see that cheers now offers specialty NA drinks. I will probably have a fancy coffee in the morning, a couple of energy drinks throughout the day, a sports drink after hitting the gym, and several bottles of water.

Alcohol wise: I will have a bloody Mary and mimosa every morning for breakfast, I will have wine with dinner and a fancy shot with dessert. These 4 drinks almost cover the Cheers price. I don't know if I will hit the 15 drink limit, but I plan on only drinking top shelf and ordering drinks I normally wouldn't.

It will be nice not worrying about the SS bill at the end.

  12. I'm not normally a drinker at all.... However, I hit 15 every day last cruise..... And enjoyed every minute. Never more than a good buzz a few times. Cheers can definitely be worth it!

That's all I really want. I don't want to get drunk, I just want to have a buzz and be able to enjoy myself.

  13. Your account will only show where the transaction occurred and what you paid ($0.00 unless you add an extra tip.). If you want to know what it would be you need to track it yourself. I tended to order the same kind of drinks at each of the different locations so I was able to come within a couple dollars when I tallied it up after the cruise.

My goal is to rack up enough up at the bar to cover the expense for 2 people getting the cheers program. So I need to drink $114 a day, shouldn't be hard, and I know I will drink plenty of non-alcoholic drinks too. Side note, my wife is a fish, and she will easily drink 15 a day.

  14. I have read back 16 pages and haven't really seen the answer I am looking for.

I was curious what the most expensive drink someone has ordered? I am looking to enjoy myself by trying new drinks, and wouldn't mind getting my moneys worth of the cheers program.

Like ordering an old fashioned made with Hennessy X.O.
