  1. One possibility is that they are revisiting the move to home-porting in Ravenna. At about 90 miles from Venice, it is a bit of a stretch to describe the port as Venice(Ravenna). The roll-calls for these sailings don't seem to be very active and what little is there seems to be concerning "How do we get to Ravenna?", so maybe bookings are light. Marghera in the Venice lagoon has been chosen by other cruise lines, but a simple "delete Ravenna, insert Marghera" probably isn't possible due to berth availability.

  2. All the ships are too similar and the centralized control too omnipresent for one ship to be consistently poorer at anything, including food, than the rest of the fleet.

It may have been that Silhouette was worse than the others at the time of your last cruise, but this will certainly have been corrected either through the normal crew and ship management rotations or by head office detecting poorer customer feedback and effecting a recovery plan to bring things up to standard.

  3. The OP says that they originally booked this cruise in early 2020.

Someone on the roll call for the cruise said that they booked in January 2020, when the cruise was scheduled to be on the Infinity and was a four night cruise.

The redeployment of Summit from San Juan to Fort Lauderdale replacing Infinity only occurred in November 2020.

This link from a thread back then, shows passengers were transferred from Infinity to Summit "at the rate paid". https://creative.rccl.com/Sales/Celebrity/Deployment/CEL_21-22_Deployment_FAQs.pdf

I can't confirm this next bit is correct but if the cruise went from 4 nights to 5 nights without a pro-rated increase, then it would be unreasonable to expect a refund when the extra day is taken away again.

So I would expect that those who booked "5 nights on Summit" would get the pro-rated refund plus some OBC and those who booked "4 nights on Infinity" will just get the OBC.

  4. The beach towels provided by the room steward are (or were) yellow. If you don't leave it in the room afterwards, then they say you will be charged for its replacement.

The pool towels are/were grey. Even though you're not meant to remove them from the ship, you will likely sea people on the beach lying on grey towels with an X cut into the pile.

The laundry bag is made of double sheet brown paper maybe 18" x 10" (45cm x 25cm) - the "all you can fit in" rule specifies "without tearing"

Hello everyone and to those getting tested today, good luck and fingers crossed.  I hate to ask a question that has probably been asked and answered many times over,  but this is my first Celebrity cruise and I wanted to check on plugs and charging options for iPhones.  Are there ubs charge points in the cabins or do I need the American plug socket?   Thanks in advance.

No USB ports, 2 US sockets (110V) and 1 European socket (220V) - all on the desk opposite the bed.

Don is from Ontario so has been awaiting COVID test and results which are required to fly out from Fort Lauderdale to Canada.  He is not quarantined as there is no requirement for this just to get off the ship to Florida, only stuck due to flying back to Canada so it is FLL flight requirement.  And there is no reason at all to believe he is  COVID positive.

At this time, due to never getting the test results from the test Celebrity did for him on board the morning of debarkation, he has since been to the airport and scheduled and taken a test there and was waiting for those results (takes days I guess) which last vlog he had flight scheduled for today Tuesday so hopefully he got the results in time.  The test on board was originally supposed to night before last day but was rescheduled but at this point it matters little since he didn't get the results for the one they did take, still nothing the next day.

With not being able to fly out and all the mishap here, he has been staying in a (nice) hotel for the extra days he had to stay in FLL and from how he has reported he is saving all his receipts and stuff will be covered.  Also there would be many that are in the same situation of not having test results in time for their international flights so it would be interesting if these others fair the same  as him in the end.

    Not fun.

In his latest vlog Don was praising a Celebrity customer services rep for frequently contacting him to provide information, assurances and updates.

I'm wondering if there are other passengers in the same situation but don't have a YouTube channel - are they receiving the same level of service?

    5. It's an early morning flight (6 am), which means that, due to the San Diego curfew, the plane will have already arrived the night before.  I'd know if it's not there.

Unless Air Canada have a crew base in San Diego, then the crew on the flight the previous evening will be overnighting in San Diego and will be the crew on the morning flight. They probably have to take a minimum number of rest hours. It may be worth monitoring the arrival time of the southbound flight and see how much it can be delayed before there is a knock on impact on the morning flight departure time.

    Thanks Den.

If we do go I"m sure it will be early as you have to get off ship prior to 9:00 on B2B's or go through the B2B process so they can zero out the ship.   Iain is not much of  a morning person while I am always up early.

Slightly off topic - isn't only in US ports that the ship needs to be zero'd out? In Europe, you can stay on the ship during the changeover. The limiting factor for a Europe back to back is how early they issue the new sea pass cards.

I was going to show them my old passport with my 'indefinite leave to remain' from 2003. I would think this covers the residency issue but you never know these days.

I may be wrong, but I don't think they are asking for your right of residence in the UK, they are asking for proof that you actually are currently living in the UK. So they need something like a bank statement, utility bill, council tax bill, mobile phone bill etc.

A question for those of you sailing on the Silhouette this summer in Concierge Class cabins -- are there foot stools on your balconies?

Foot stools had been removed as part of the ship's "revolution," but this was a very unpopular move and many cruisers insisted they be brought back.  I recall right before the pandemic some folks saying that some type of foot stools were finally placed on the Concierge Class balconies, but there's little data out there, given the suspension of cruising.

I'm hoping that those sailing in Concierge Class this summer could let us know: do you have foot stools on your balconies?  (Photos of the balcony furniture would be an added bonus.  🙂)

Thanks so much for any info, and enjoy your cruises!!

It was Equinox, the first ship to be revolutionized that suffered the loss of foot stools. The outcry was so vociferous, when it came round to doing Silhouette, the foot stools were included as part of the concierge class balcony furniture.

There was mention on here, that Equinox was due to get the missing foot stools replaced, but I don't recall reading that this had occurred.

I don't think they have realised that with only organised tours available, many many people have remained onboard.

It would require some joined up thinking between the Excursions team and the Food & Beverages team, but with only (cruise line) organised tours available, they should have a really accurate view of how many people would remain on board.

Just to add, I've had my email too! The company they are using is called Eurofins and the site isn't very helpful. Maybe they're very busy but the booking button isn't even working :D.

I might just go for the book your own and get a refund option.

Eurofins reviews on Trustpilot would suggest booking your own choice and claiming the refund may be the better option.

  13. I love the irony of complaining that you've been told that you can't enter the terminal until nearer your departure time, inventing non-existent medical problems to get let in early, and then complaining that there's no room in the terminal for social distancing.

Why?  MSC gives you a choice.  There are still plenty of regular balcony cabins.   I actually like this approach.  There are plenty of people they say they don’t use there balcony, this would be perfect for them.

Fully agree - looking at the MSC site, they offer balcony cabins at 17 square metres (182 sq ft) plus a balcony and infinite oceanview at 20 square metres with an opening window. This allows you to choose between a balcony or more space - satisfying both sides of the argument.
