  1. Sid - I'm usually a day late and a dollar short, so I'm catching up on your live reviews and enjoying them. Thank you for taking the time to do them and entertaining us while we live vicariously.

I'm about an hour and a half drive to ATL (depending on where in ATL of course), so I'm making note of some of your ATL spots too. We've only been in GA for about a year and when we head that way, we're always looking for something original and yummy.

Good luck with the house/apt hunt!

I'm so sorry. I originally put Vista Class but didn't think that looked right as it's also a Holland America Class, so I changed it. Just further proof you shouldn't take advice from an 80-year-old. 🙂

Eh we all have those looked at it wrong moments.

Since the PANORAMA is the last of the Dream Class, it will most likely resemble the other ships in this class very much. You can get much information for asking other cruisers that have taken this class (I've only been on the BREEZE) and always loved this class. But, I almost always book inside cabins.

I'm also booked on the PANORAMA this winter, January 18 and really looking forward to it.

The Panorama is the Vista class, not the Dream class. So you'll want to look at the Vista and Horizon for info.

DH and I have talked about visiting America's baseball stadiums, one city at a time, and our Boston idea grew from this. Not sure that Minneapolis could keep us busy for an entire week.

We wanted to visit all the ballparks too. For Minneapolis you could combine either Detroit to see the Tigers or South Dakota to see Mount Rushmore. Do 3 days in one place and move on for 3 or 4 days at the other. We have friends in MN and MI, so we'd likely extend our trip in those places to hang out with them, but it's an idea to split it up.

We enjoy the MDR, even if the food is not outstanding. I like the relaxed pace at dinner, enjoying the time at the table to talk to others about the day, whether it is friends we're cruising with or new people we're meeting for the first time.

I don't cruise to eat dinner at the buffet every night. Or pizza or hamburgers. I like that the cruise price has included meals and options that aren't buffet or counter service. It's just easier.

If they ever did take the MDR away, I would expect it to be replaced by something comparable. Or maybe I should say I would want that. HA!

  5. We think they look better than they taste. Not that they are "bad" just not as good as they look to us. DH got the carrot cake and the icing wasn't sweet at all. He said it was like someone whipped cream cheese and used that for icing. I've had the black forest cake and it was better than the carrot cake, but still not something I'm likely to buy again. We've also bought one the the Happy Anniversary cakes and again, the cake was OK, but the icing was like unsweetened whipped cream.

I've really want to try the cheesecake, but so far I've been hesitant based on what we have previously tried.

Obviously based on other replies, lots of people love it. So maybe we are the minority.

  6. At Guy's make sure to check both sides of the line before just getting in line. I've walked right up and waited behind one person on one side when the line on the other side was 20 or more people deep. I guess a lot of people don't know there's two sides, or don't pay attention and just get in line because it's there.

Also Guys is usually open much later than Blue Iguana. So take that into consideration too.

  7. Add another one for it being too close for comfort for me. There are probably people who fly in the day of for every cruise, but that's too much stress to add to the beginning of a vacation for me, especially with a 2:30p all aboard time.

A red eye that lands in the very early morning is the only way I'd plan to fly in the day of a cruise. And we've only done that once.

  8. Thanks for another great review! I think I need to head back to Belize and Roatan, it's been a while. And I need to check out Costa Maya. Where is the pool in Costa Maya located. I know in the port, but is it part of someplace like Margaritaville in Grand Turk? Could you walk to Blue Kay?

Enjoy your upcoming NCL and RCL cruises. We've done the MR several times with DCL and CCL. It's an easy trip for us since we're currently in AZ. Obviously not like the Caribbean, but still fun. The Jewel may be the only ship I'd never get DH back on. We enjoyed our cruise on her, but didn't really like the layout and a few other things. Looking forward to reading about your trip on her.

  9. What about to and from the catamaran?

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

We did this from Disney, but when we got on the catamaran it was off the left side of the pier (opposite where the cruise ship is). We didn't walk near the shops at all. Just off the ship, toward the "Welome to Nassau" sign, then to the left.

On the return trip, they took us over and dropped us off where the shops and stuff are. People were lined up to sell stuff and braid hair. A polite no thank you and we walked on. We walked along the chain link fence and went into the building where they check your ship ID, then we were able to walk the rest of the way to the ship.

The walk to get on the catamaran was much shorter than the walk back to the ship afterwards. Neither time we felt rushed. In fact we stood in line for a bit waiting to get on the catamaran.

  10. We just got off the Vista Sunday. When we arrived at POM, there were two lines one said on time, the other said early/late arrivals. Our PAT was 11:00a. We were about 30 min early, so we got in the early/late line and had about 4 or 5 people in front of us. There was someone from CCL at the front of the line telling people which agent to go to. I did notice that if someone showed up in the on time line, they let them go ahead of the early/late line.

  11. Has anyone done one of the ship excursions on debarkation? We will be debarking in Miami but fly out of Fort Lauderdale on a 5:30 pm flight. We are considering one of the excursions since part of the cost is transportation to the Fort Lauderdale airport. What do they do with the luggage? And which excursion you did and if you would do it again?

We had a late flight from FLL after a cruise out of POM. We did the South beach tour. There was a narrated tour on the drive to the drop off location. Our luggage stayed on the bus when we were dropped off for "free time" and given a meeting place/time. We did find some great Cuban food for lunch, but I probably wouldn't do that tour again. Only because been there done that, and not that it was a bad tour. It was a good way to spend the hours before our flight.
