  1. Is Chef's table included in the Dining Packages? I just received an email from Royal Caribbean trying to sell the dining package for up to 40% off, and it lists the Chef's Table. I did not think this one was included in the package?

Interesting. Usually it is not included in the package. When are you booked? If your cruise is soon, perhaps, RCI is trying to fill out occupancy for the Chef's Table that is under subscribed? When do you depart?

  2. Is anyone else going on the OASIS of the Seas on Oct 1? I am nervous about the storm. Has anyone heard anything from RCC?

Alot of uncertainty with this storm because it took so long to form. Now that it has formed a center, the tracking models are beginning to show less variability and they predict a turn over Jamaica/Cuba, then to he Bahamas. If I remember, your itinerary is Eastern, so my guess (emphasis on guess) is that you won't be doing that. So while the NHC is trying to predict the path of Matthew, my prediction is that you might do a reverse western; Cozumel, Falmouth, Labadee. That should keep you well to the west of the storm on departure and on the return, well south of it; if it keeps moving as the models currently suggest.

Your best friend now are the National Hurricane Center web page. Have a fun cruise.

  3. I'm trying to organize dining for our upcoming cruise on Oasis and I'm confused. On the cruise planner for the Oasis departure on Oct 22, the RCI web page describes 150 Central Park as a 6 course meal if purchased without the wine tasting option, yet only a 4 course meal with wine tasting. Is this correct? If I reserve without the wine tasting, are we free to order more than a single appetizer course? Several look appealing. Also, we are interested in the cheese platters for after the dinner. Can we order samples from multiple platters, or is this selection limited?

Thanks in advance for any advice/guidance from individuals who have dined at 150 Central Park on Oasis.

  4.

I just checked Cruise Planner for Oasis and it shows Solarium Bistro/dinner charge is $20.

Yes, that is correct, at least for our departure on Oct 22. But there were also several recent first hand accounts reported that Solarium Bistro was serving complimentary dinner on Oasis. I cancelled our paid reservations and will confirm whether it is a specialty or complimentary restaurant when contacted by the concierge before our cruise or after we board.

  5. OK, so I have a paid reservation for Solarium on Oasis for Oct 22-29 cruise. Given this change, will a refund be automatically issued by RCI? Should I call and request one? Deal with this on board?

    Advice will be welcome. Thanks.

As an aside, I thought the dinner menu looked very interesting. I am disappointed that it may have changed.

  6. What are the wave heights listed at?

Here's the marine forecast for that region of the Atlantic:

Hopefully, conditions will improve as you progress.

  7. I was reading that thread which prompted me to look at the prices again. Didn't know you had to add 18% on top of that price....hmmmmmm.....not sure I can drink that much!

You must understand the pricing games that RCI plays. Some prices are quoted with gratuities included; others without. I've yet to figure out how the 20% discount is calculated, and I'm no slouch with numbers. One thing you need to take into account; if you're considering the Premium package for $44 per day (without gratuities), do it before Sept 6th. After that, the only alcoholic beverages package that seems to be available will be $55 (again, without grats). On the other hand, this new package may be only for U.K. cruisers; or maybe not. Simple, eh?

  8. I thought it was just on Harmony the tasting menu had gone. Bad decision I feel the tasting menu we did on Allure was brilliant

Just speculation, but maybe 150 Central had an identity crisis. A six course tasting menu; how is that different from Chef's Table? And Chef's Table is less expensive. Reduce to 3 courses al la carte? Sounds like Chops to me. Also might not appeal as much to wine lovers who enjoy tasting multiple wine varieties matched by a professional sommelier.

  9. As a Yank with plans to cruise Australia and NZ next year, I really appreciated the tips and advice for Americans that were mentioned in the prior article. In return, what advice can I offer for Australians heading to the USA?...

Most importantly, NEVER, EVER say "you want to be my mate" to an American female. The result will be likely be worse than a bite from a Funnel Spider and require a visit to the local hospital. Curiously, some Aussies are resistant to this (Paul Hogan was the last, I believe...)

  10. We're booked on a western Caribbean cruise on Oasis of the Seas this October that ports in Falmouth, Jamaica. I'm curious to know if anyone has done the Falmouth Food Tour that is offered by the local company, Jamaica Culinary Tours. Sounds interesting but looking for first hand experiences before committing.

    Thanks for your help.
