  1. "I also haven’t seen any reference to the price guarantee. Does anyone know if that has been eliminated? If so, I will be very disappointed. "

Looks like the price guarantee is still in place......

From the "fine print" of the new Onboard Savings Program (on RSSC web site):

Best Price Guarantee applies when another applicable public promotion offers a better price on the cruise guest has selected. Guest will be able to take advantage of this new promotion plus the added benefit of the applicable Onboard Savings by having their travel agent call Regent Seven Seas Cruises to have the new promotion added to their reservation (subject to availability). Should there be a price reduction after final payment has been paid, the difference will be given to guest in the form of a Shipboard Credit, suite upgrade, or a Future Cruise Credit at Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ discretion.

Would you mind helping me find the BEST Price Guarantee info on the web site. I tried to find it but came up empty. BTW my TA thinks that this has been discontinued. So I am hoping she is incorrect...thanks.

  2. Thanks for replying to my questions about the Council. Am I understanding correctly that some TA's actually get better pricing for their clients? I don't mean OBC's and such — but there's a real price difference depending on whom one books with??

Any special pricing that these TAs would receive would be an exceptional circumstance, not an every day occurrence. Perhaps that pricing has gone away now too as I haven’t heard of anything for at least a year. At least that is my experience.

  3. In my opinion, we are down the path with Regent of constant price increases and benefit reductions. Not a great place to be from a customer perspective.

Yes I am a loyal customer and love the Regent product but beyond bookings out to 2020, it will be interesting to see what we decide to do.

Our TA is on the Regent Council and I have provided my feedback to her, as I suggest others do as well. In my view Regent is catching the wave, so to speak, of the new ships for the next couple of years. Beyond that, perhaps choppier waters? Only time (and competition) will tell.

  4. Yes while I think this savings program has been simplified, there is a large reduction in savings for longer voyages. For example the savings that we received for booking a future Grand Voyage in a Penthouse Suite has gone from $4200 to $2000 for the Suite.

I also haven’t seen any reference to the price guarantee. Does anyone know if that has been eliminated? If so, I will be very disappointed.

  5. Back to the topic of the Infinity pool, we really enjoyed it on our Explorer cruise through the Panama Canal a year and a bit ago. It is a great place to do some pool exercises while enjoying a beautiful view in a quiet setting. Looking forward to taking advantage of the pool again at Christmas time while doing our Capetown to Capetown. In fact one of the considerations of our room location for that cruise was the easy access to the gym and infinity pool.

  6. On our last Voyager cruise in February, the boutique launched the sale of John Hardy jewelry. It is wonderful, in our humble opinions, and the boutique prices are same as retail prices. It was our best use of OBC’s, perhaps even better than for Regent Choice excursions, which can be hit or miss....

  7. Upgrayders, we are also booked on this cruise. Agree that there are many more excursions displayed when looking at this cruise on the general web site vs. what are actually available for booking. Very disappointing in a couple of ports where there should have been some day long safari choices available.

I will check with my TA when she is back next week but honestly don’t think we should have to do that at all.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Regent but it seems that one has to do more personal follow up for things to be ‘right’ as time goes by. And yes I know TA’s should be on top of these things but I don’t think that they would be aware of the actual booking options unless a client provided that info.

We will enjoy the trip regardless as Capetown and SA are definitely our favourite destinations in the world, well so far anyway....

  8. Looking forward to hearing about your adventures. The Mariner should be in tip top shape for you. It is quite different than the Explorer, with a personality all her own.

In our opinion, Captain Serena is one of the best ‘features’ on the Mariner. She will be a virtual fountain of information about your Voyage and her passion for traveling and interest in the world around us are an inspiration. I love how she interacts with people on her visits to the Coffee Connection.

Safe travels and looking forward to your posts.

  9. On our last cruise we found the new Mensa quiz a great alternative and/or addition to trivia. There are five questions per day and typically you respond as a pair/Suite. Much less competitive but definitely challenging and fun. Mensa seems to be solved at 4:00 and trivia at 4:30, so if you are really keen, you can do both.

In my opinion trivia has changed over the past few years. First point is way too serious and second is that it has been separated from tea time due to the number of people playing. So it isn’t the fun place that we once experienced BUT every cruise has a different experience and personality so check it out once or twice if interested.

  10. Hooray! Congratulations to David for this well deserved recognition and promotion.

We too were onboard the Mariner last fall and really enjoyed the trio of Lorraine, David and Marla. They hosted one of the most fun nights that we have ever had onboard on our first night of the cruise at a dance party. They are all very talented and fun.

Can’t help but add as fellow Canadians that we are really proud of our ‘farm boy’ from Saskatchewan!

  11. I wanted to share a bit about an excursion that I arranged independently as it was a definite highlight of our trip...

If you have ever heard of the name John Hardy, you would know that he became famous for making jewelry based on his inspiration from the culture and the beauty of Bali. He built a workshop just over an hour away from the port in Benoa where you can arrange to visit, based on limited numbers.

I don’t want to give away the whole experience but I can tell you he really built a sustainable community that employs over 750 people who hand make every piece of jewelry. You can visit the various stages of development as they craft these pieces. It is very interesting not only for the jewelry itself but for the engineering that underpins the craftsmanship. It is really quite amazing the vision that Hardy had to build this environment that was founded in 1975.

We were invited to join the management team for lunch at their outdoor long table. The management team eats lunch together every day and up to eight people can be invited to join them. By the way, the same kitchen, with no electricity or gas, also prepares lunch for all of the 750 workers each day. Our lunch was just a fabulous experience and gave us a ‘real’ up close look at the beautiful Balinese culture.

It is also kind of ironic that during our cruise, the boutique on the Voyager launched the sale of John Hardy jewelry onboard!

We had a great day there and I wanted to let others know about it. I contacted John Hardy through their website so if you are interested, you can find the contact info there.

  12. Travelcat, the best bartender onboard, in my opinion, is Joseph. We first met him on the Explorer a year ago Christmas and he was the best bar server(sorry, don’t know the official title) onboard, with a wit and a flair and a personal touch. Since then he has been promoted to Assistant Bartender and did an admirable job in the Horizon Lounge on our last leg. Unfortunately for us, his assignments this cruise take him to the Crew Bar in the evening. We can catch him in the Observation Lounge at cocktail hour before he heads to other duties - also Coffee Connection in the daytime - but we really do miss him in the evening. I hope he is still onboard when you join in a month and am sure you will enjoy his TLC.

  13. Excited that you will be on the Voyager. We do not return to the Voyager until March. Hope that you have a great time.

One question....... what channel will the Olympics be on? I ask because people in the U.S. that want to football playoffs will not be able to watch it because Regent does to carry the channel. Hope that you will be able to watch!

  14. And then there are people like us who will be sailing on the Voyager for 34 days with NO valet laundry service included in our cruise fare. So where does this all start and stop.

I do agree with the suggestion that Regent include more of a pricing perk for loyal Seven Seas Society members vs these other amenities that are give aways.

I do feel sorry for the laundry staff onboard as there will no doubt be a lot of extra work for them. And of course if Regent has to staff up to deal with the extra demand, won’t we all end up paying for it in the end....

  15. Hi there, I would think the best thing for you to do is to check with the Regent rep and see if they will take your bags directly to the ship for you if you want to do your own thing. We were able to leave our bags with Regent in Montreal in October(though we had an overnight stay) and then were able to wander the city on our own and took a cab to the port to ‘beat’ the embarkation lineup. It worked out perfectly.

We have taken Uber to the Port in Miami from Coral Gables as well and it is easy and inexpensive.

Hope that you find another ‘Mixed Nuts’ crew for Trivia. Hi to your Dad and we look forward to hearing about your Christmas onboard the Mariner.

  16. Gosh folks, has anyone ever really waited more than 20 minutes to board a Regent ship once embarkation was available? I admit that I was surprised to see the different queue(with the whatever coloured carpet) for upper level suites when we embarked in Montreal in October. Reality is that our only ‘non upper suite’ delay with boarding, perhaps 5 minutes, was because we had a ‘newbie’ doing our check in.

I agree with the posters that say that as long as we can embark and enjoy a glass of wine or two with lunch while waiting for our suite to be available, we are perfectly delighted.

I don’t like the class thing at all, but it does not discourage me from sailing on Regent.

I could start a bit of a protest and say, why aren’t Penthouse Suites given the same treatment, but that would be silly.

At the end of the day, a swift, efficient embarkation for all works for all IMHO.

  17. We have been fortunate to enjoy Horizon View Suites on the Mariner twice so far. We love the room, one of our favourites. Lots of space and the balcony is great. There is a table with 4 chairs under cover, so to speak and then a double chaise that is more out in the open, of course depending on the position of the sun.

Agree with the comments about the Lounge below and beware the Veranda above so book one of the decks in between and you will be fine.

  18. I really hope that your excursion in Manaus includes the Opera House. It is a mystery and a wonder to behold. What a beautiful architectural spot it is in seemingly a strange setting.

As for the pink dolphins, they are great to see, not sure I would hop in the water to swim with them but I am sure your excursion has it all sorted out.

One thought about Devil’s Island, we were all on our own to visit(no excursions) I really enjoyed it but Pat decided to stay onboard due to the warnings about the uneven terrain. A good decision on her part as it was a bit of tough walking. Worst part was that we had a several people who struggled with the walk and in fact we had to leave a couple on the island due to health issues. There really isn’t much there but the buildings so just beware that you are pretty much on your own, and I really did enjoy the trek and the history and beauty of the place. Not sure why we needed the Yellow Fever shots, however...

Totally agree with the comments about Boi Bumba. It is a fantastic show and one of the highlights of our trip. My tip for you there would be if you want a good seat at the show, get yourself on an early tender, otherwise you will be at the back of the room competing with iPads and iPhones for a view of the show and frustrated, as we were. All good though.

Cheers and I am reliving this trip vicariously!
