  1. So - just to confirm - on all of the ships, magnets will work?

Shirley, the bulletin board is a good idea, but only works if you happen to have a cabin near guest services. Usually what happens with a big group is that you go to someone's cabin, only to find out they aren't there and you have no idea where they have gone...

  2. Hi,

Just spoke with our travel agent, and she said that our group of 14 will be seated at either 2 or 3 tables "close to each other", depending on what they have available.

Is there any way to specifically request one table for eight and one table for six? I'd hate for us to be broken up into three tables, but I've never had this large a group before. Does anyone have experience with this? Do they have a lot of tables for eight or is it mostly four and six person tables?

    Thanks,

  3. Not such a unique situation at all. I can't have too much sugar OR caffeine, so I was thinking about a doctor's note to bring diet sodas. It appears that they have no caffeine-free diet sodas on board.

So my question is: those of you who have brought items on board - how much? Would I have a problem if I tried to bring a large bottle of diet tonic water and a large bottle of diet sprite?

  4. There was an earlier post here saying that they were enforcing the drink packages. I'm actually glad they are watching them somehow, because I don't want them to decide they are losing money and cancel them.

I wonder though - part of the idea of the drink package, at least for me, is that I can try a drink, and if I don't like it, get a different one.

So - has anyone had any experience with how often they let you go back for another drink?

  5. Cindy - thank you, thank you for all the great pictures.

I noticed a hot tub in the fitness center and another picture had signs for men's & womens' changing rooms for the sauna/steam room.

I didn't realize there were sauna/steam rooms on the ship. Are these open to everyone or are they "pay" items? We were on the Magic and loved their various fancy steam rooms, but you had to pay quite a bit to use them and there was no free steam room.

Also, you've probably already thought about this, but if you are touring the Vatican with a group, be sure to hire a private guide! Best money we ever spent - zoomed past a (literally) mile long line, right to the front!

  6. Since we aren't allowed to post website names here: do a google search on "which cabins I found this one a British site". Should lead you to another cruising forum where this question is answered. The British site was very helpful for us trying to find cabins for a group of 14.

(I hope I'm not breaking the rules by posting this. If I am, sorry!)

  7. So - really wondering what the restrictions are on the premium or ultimate drink package. For instance, on our last cruise, the guys in our group spent one afternoon doing a few shots. Are you allowed to just order shots with the package? And is there a period of time you must wait between drink orders? I know you can only order one at a time, but don't know if there is a restriction of, say, 1 drink per half hour or per hour? (Before anyone starts worrying about our alcohol consumption, this is a one time per cruise event for the guys :D)

On a related note, if you order a $15 glass of wine, do you just pay the difference of $3 or do you have to pay the entire price, since it is over the $12 limit?

Appreciate any answers. I have pored over the drink package threads but can't find these specific questions.

  8. Hi.

Thanks for the info. Doesn't sound like noise will be a problem. The reason I was asking about the aerial performance is that there is this description of deck 5 for the Navigator (after the refurbishment):

    "R Bar

Experience a 1960s vibe at the all-new R Bar, featuring iconic furnishings and classic cocktails - gimlet, martini, gin, whiskeys and more - all served by the ship's resident mixologist. And be sure to try the drink specials, specially created to complement the Centrum's nightly theme and aerial performance."

It's possible they just copied this description from one of the ships that have the aerial performance, but I'm not sure.

  9. Hi. Trying to figure out which promenade cabin to get for an August cruise.

One of the ones we were looking at is in the 7301 to 7309 range, which looks like it is right near the Centrum.

So - question one - will they have a live band and/or DJ playing in the Centrum until late at night? Our usual bedtime is 11 pm at the earliest, so we don't care if there is noise until then.

Secondly, what is the aerial show that Royal Caribbean is talking about on their website? And can you view it from the promenade cabins?

Any quick answers would be appreciated. I have a cabin on hold, but only until 5 pm today ...

  10. I booked it for the Magic on 1/27, but that was several weeks ago. Not showing up under excursions now.

I'm guessing they were selling the 1/20 sailing about the same time or earlier, but don't know for sure.

That was the first group of 15, though - haven't seen them open a second group of 15 yet.

  11. I will say this, though: the Texas/Louisiana/Mississippi/Oklahoma people who make up the majority of the passengers on the Carnival Magic are really quite friendly. You can definitely feel the difference from a Miami or Los Angeles cruise. After a few days onboard, after meeting quite a few really friendly passengers, my wife actually said to me: "If I had grown up in Texas, I might I have learned to like people more than I do!"

Thanks for the nice compliment! And thanks for the great review! Can I ask - you said the music was better at the aft pool. What kind of music did they play there?
