  2. I was pretty excited about Mr. Sanchos AI, but given that the other three ports are going to be beach/snorkel I took a look at NCL's trips to Xplor and Xcaret. Anyone been to these? I realize it will be a bit more travel, but if booking through the ship we don't have to worry about being left behind right?

We are 4 adults in our early 30s going in January with 6 ships port that day. So which would you suggest? How is the food at the X parks? Thanks in advance!

  3. On our last cruise we purchased the UDP for the days of the cruise, it seems to have changed now to per MEAL. Can anyone confirm? So we can no longer get an appetizer at one specialty restaurant and a main course later at another without incurring 'charges' against UDP of TWO meals pp. Am I understanding this correctly?

Also, per the original poster, some of the specialty restaurants allowed multiple appetizers and desserts, but only one main entree.

  4. Hi,

Long story short, we are woefully unprepared, (research wise) for our European ports in 15 days. I booked tours in all three Italian ports, Rome, Naples and Florence so we would see the "important" tourist sights, and I am trying to read up when I can, but

What do you wish you'd known before your tour...things to look for, things that don't take as long as you thought, or take more...things to go in search of, things to avoid, things to eat, or not eat... I think personal experiences are much better to learn from so please, anything you can think of, please share!

  5. Not sure why I didn't do this sooner, but I googled "private beaches cannes" and found http://www.easybeachbooking.com/en/private-beach-booking.cfm?idvl2=19 I don't think I'll use the site to book, but at least it provides a list with pictures and locations, and some prices.

I am surprised at the prices, everyone has been saying how expensive they are, I was expecting it would be over a hundred USD.

Maybe we'll see you at one, we go in 15 days!

  6. Karen,

I see that you post answers telling people to do searches QUITE often, I feel like it might be more helpful to the Original Poster, and the community in general if maybe you did the search and provided a link in your response. Since you are taking the time out to write a several sentence response anyway, I know I would find it very helpful. just a thought.

  7. I understand that anything you purchase prior to boarding (UDP, shows, etc) are not charged the VAT tax and was advised to make my purchases ahead of time to avoid the VAT. This is especially helpful since our cruise on the EPIC, RT from Barcelona does not stop at any EU countries.

  8. Hank,

We are in Cannes in May during the film festival, trying to decide if we stay in Cannes, visit Monte Carlo, which is having the Grand Prix that weekend or if we should visit Nice instead. I am loath to sit in traffic or wait in lines due to these events. What do you suggest?

  9. LrgPizza, I love your pedal trolly pic! Those look so fun!

I understand its the first night only, but trying to judge my mood a month in advance in order to book this stuff is kind of impossible so it might as well be on the first night since we will do it anyway and this way it makes more financial sense. From what I have read the service not the food is the downfall of the main dining rooms, and personally bad service is more irritating than bad food so I had planned on visiting mostly fee restaurants, so this makes it more than a break even.

    Monalis,

I have actually heard conflicting reports about the Chefs Table on NCL, I have done them on Princess, Celebrity and RCL and heard that the NCL one is a bit less special. It is a set menu, unlike the other lines which change things up based upon who is cooking in order to present the best options. Food is so subjective though so I take bad reviews with a grain of salt, and I hope that our dinner is magnificent. (the included wine helps too!)

  10. I saw that the UDP now includes the Cirque show on Epic, which makes the UDP a legitimate savings if you eat at all the specialty places (especially if we buy pre-sailing and don't have to pay the VAT tax on it)...Does anyone think they would reduce the Chef's table price also for a UDP couple? I know it is just wishful thinking, but nothing ventured nothing gained right?

  11.

First, FANTASTIC review, thank you so much for all the pictures and personal experiences! You and Max are such a cute couple! It was like getting a review from a close friend! We sail in May, and I was getting worried that this cruise might have been for an older crowd but your review was refreshingly honest and hit on all the things I was concerned about!

    Now for the important questions;

WHERE did you get that adorable pink dress from the Formal night? it was stunning on you! and

WHAT did you use in your hair that it looked so good in pictures? I'm concerned about all the humidity!

    Thanks again!

  12. Hi,

We're coming into Cannes on the NCL Epic on Friday May 23, (Film Festival and Grand Prix weekend...) We tender at 8am, do you think we will be able to make it to our tour in Nice at 10am? I am worried this is too close...thoughts?

We did a tour in Nice due to the big events going on in Cannes and Monte Carlo, we thought Nice might be the better choice.

  13. Is it true that Monte Carlo is closed the race days? I was looking into taking the train from Cannes to Monaco, to see the casino and race set up, and someone posted on another board that the city is 'closed'. I'm not sure how that could be, but was wondering if anyone had any information or experience with this?
