  1. My family and I was on this cruise with you. We all had a wonderful time. I was actually celebrating my 40th bday :D:eek: We have also planned another cruise already..lol leaving from Galveston as we reside in Texas also. Wish I could be enjoying another cruise now...however work calls lol

    Happy anniversary!

Yes I dream of the day I can retire and cruise 3 to 4 times a year...oh well.

  2. Thanks for your review.

How late were people still getting off the ship when you arrived?

How was service in the MDR? Have read mixed reviews on the Conquest, glad to see you enjoyed it.

We stuck with lido for all of our meals unfortunately no MDR this time around.

I know we arrived at Port everglades just a few minutes before our check in at 1230. We didn't get on board until almost 0200 or 0215.

  3. Conquest short review

Just off the Conquest sailing 12/4-12-10 sailed out of Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades). Second cruise me and my big sister have taken, we flew in from TX the night before with a check in time of 1230 at the cruise terminal. The line was ghastly, probably the worst part of the trip but the way I see it I was standing in line to get on a cruise ship to go on vacation so…:D. There was an announcement that the previous passengers were delayed in disembarking so this was the cause of the delay no big deal.

First thing we did once on board was to grab a Drink. My sister got a choclatini and I got a strawberry daiquiri both were awesome and made by the coolest bartender ever, her name was Myrriot pronounced like the hotel chain. After muster, we relaxed in the room a bit and then went to the buffet for dinner. Happy to see the new hand wash stations they had, or they’re new to me at least can’t remember if they were on the Magic or not since I used the sanitizer stations.

First sea day we went to alchemy, played some trivia in the atrium watched the Thriller dance class and just sort of walked around the ship and people watched. We went to the fun shops and browsed and had a relaxed day.

Second day we ported at Amber Cove, we booked a late excursion but got off the boat at around 8:30am and just explored the little touristy area just off the pier. We both got our passports stamped, and then shopped. I picked up some pineapple rum cream (yum) and some coffee. Sister got some coffee and a few shot glasses. We went on the countryside zip lining adventure through Carnival, it was awesome! I will caution however that there is tons of walking/hiking involved so if you’re thinking about it keep that in mind. We got back to the room took a quick nap and then went to the Chef’s table which was phenomenal.

I have the menu if anyone is interested, but I think it’s probably the same menu as others have posted before.

Third day we were in Grand Turk and we had an early excursion the deluxe catamaran sail and snorkel through carnival. Again we had an awesome time. Lots of people on board good music and rum punch lots and lots and lots of rum punch :D. Once back on board we ate at Guys which was okay to me. My sister loved the chili burger she had a couple more that week. We’re not really into shows or anything so we just relaxed in the room and walked around lido to people watch.

Day four second sea day. Again just kind of hung out in the room I did laundry and we split a sandwich tray I previously had ordered from the fun shops for lunch. Dinner we went to the buffet, and since this was the second formal night they had tidbits from the MDR menu. The highlight of which were the stuffed mushrooms and the flat iron steak…wow. I normally wouldn’t chose that cut of meat but it was tender juicy and cooked just right.

Day five was Nassau, there was a brief safety advisory prior to debarkation, though we didn’t experience any problems of that nature. Again we got our passports stamped, did some shopping in the straw market, and went to Starbucks for coffee. Went on a Carnival tour from and made it back on board with plenty of time to spare. We packed up in about an hour settled our accounts and got our liquor delivery to the cabin which was cool since last year we had to pick up our liquor in the MDR on debarkation day. Overall we had a great time, both of us are already thinking about our next Carnival cruise thinking of sailing on the Vista.

If you have questions ask away!

  4. What does experienced have to do with anything??? Did I say you said the system was broken? Is there a full moon tonight?

We may be at cross purposes, wasn't sure if you were refereeing to me as "one time cruiser" or the OP. If I am incorrect I apologize, no offense intended.

For what it's worth as a one time cruiser myself I don't see anything wrong with the system at hand. Others may feel differently and perhaps cruising isn't the right sort of vacation for them.

also the moon is apparently at a "waning crescent" or 30% visibility :D https://www.calendar-12.com/moon_calendar/2016/november

  5. Rregardless of a one time cruisers post, the system is not broken, works fine and is totally ethical.

I don't think nor did I state that the system is broken. I have sympathy for them not seeing their families for large spans of time but that's a job they chose to do, and by no means are international employees on cruise lines entitled to protections under US labor laws. Essentially I agree with the overall sentiment of most of the more "experienced" cruisers in this thread. But I suppose my opinion will mean more once I'm a two time cruiser:rolleyes:

  6. I'm sympathetic to them not seeing their families for long periods of time however it's not fair imo to judge their wages based on U.S. worker's and our labor laws as many cruise employees come from other countries all over the world. As someone has stated they are paid based on their country of origin and for most this provides a good living.

Also I'm of the belief that being ethical and being self-interested aren't necessarily mutually exclusive ;) interesting post.

  7. We cruised during hurricane season last year out of Galveston on the Magic and for five of the seven days it was great. But on the last sea day my sister got majorly ill she was nauseated and spent a few hours running back and forth to the ladies room...can't tell if it was sea sickness, something she ate, or allergic reaction but that was a pretty miserable day for her. On top of that we had choppy waves for the last two days and it rained so much that all the pools were closed and everyone was inside so all the activities were filled to capacity. That being said we are both so excited to go on our second carnival cruise in December on the Conquest! Maybe it's just being glass half full people but we tend to weigh the entire vacation experience and since 5 out of 7 days were great one incident didn't dampen our spirits. We booked later in the season and have purchased Dramamine and a deck of cards just in case :D.

To the OP some of your complaints are valid others like weather and ill passenger can happen on any cruise or vacation. I do hope you'll reconsider cruising it's truly the best vacation you can get for your money and if Carnival isn't for you there are other lines to try.

  8. I mean...drink something else perhaps? I know people have their preferences but it's hard for me to believe coke products can make or break a vacation. I quit drinking soda a few months ago and feel all the better for it. But when I was a regular soda drinker if they didn't have my flavor of choice (Dr. Pepper) I'd just pick my next favorite.

  9. I think if you took a breathalyzer you would get a different answer but that is only my opinion. Unfortunately I've seen plenty of people who were "not intoxicated" do really stupid things and some got hurt because of it even though they were "not intoxicated". The police officer disagreed with their personal assessment.

    This

In my line of work I run into a lot of so called "professional" alcoholics with very high BAC's upwards of .12 who can still "function". That's just tolerance legally they are still intoxicated.

It all depends on your height weight and amount time between drinks. Food and water only help pace the absorption of the alcohol, they don't help sober you up by any means.

As to the OP's question we had Cheers on the Magic back in 2015 at that time you couldn't get more than one beverage in the time frame alcoholic or otherwise. Happy sailing! :D

  10. More of an amusing misunderstanding than a complaint, but while on the bus in Jamaica on the way to an excursion my sister and I were seated in front of a group of folks from Dallas or Forth Worth can't remember which. Our tour guide starts to give us a quick lesson in Jamaican vernacular which she explains is a mixture of English and slang. She then goes over the history of Jamaica as a British colony and gives the run down on the major language on the island and religion etc...Our bus driver named Matthew makes a joke about the Jamaican name for jail (the free hotel) and we laugh.

Then one of the ladies in the group behind my sister and I asks Matthew with a straight face and dead serious "So what's your Jamaican name?" our tour guide kind of looks at her and the bus driver says "Matthew".

This apparently doesn't satisfy her as she says again "no but what's your Ja-Ma-Cian name?" I had to hold my sister back from laughing out loud when the bus driver goes "Matt-Hew" she still isn't getting it and asks again louder and slower "Jamaican name...what's your Jamaican name?" suddenly her friends and the rest of us all burst out laughing one of them finally explained it to her and she was like "ooooh" and she starts laughing too.

Very nice lady otherwise though :D
