  1. Heya!

NCL were brilliant and the getaway is one of the best. I cruised on her last year out of Miami and it was incredible!

I have never wanted/needed to go in any of the pay extra for parts. Doesn't really bother me, definitely not missing out.

The pool is pretty small and on a sunny sea day it can be hard to get a seat around the pool, doesn't bother me though plenty of other places to sit!

As this is your first NCL cruise I may just share this, it's my top NCL tips and may help you make your decision. http://cruisingisntjustforoldpeople.co.uk/2016/12/04/8-things-ncl/

My main tip would be to make sure you book the shows!! Ideally before you go if you can. They're amazing you wouldn't want to miss out...

The recommendation from me is 100% yes!

  2. Heya! I used uber one way and a transfer the other. The uber was much cheaper, faster and generally easier! It was my first uber trip and I can't recommend it enough.

I've listed here how much each journey took, how much it cost and what I thought etc. Hope this is of help! http://cruisingisntjustforoldpeople.co.uk/2017/01/07/fort-lauderdale-airport-to-the-port-of-miami/

It really wasn't as difficult or expensive to get around as I had feared!

  3. I love how old this thread is... just thought I'd add my little bit as it may help somebody out and this thread seems to still be awake!

I... don't book cruise line excursions.

I... book flights separately (most of the time)

    I... book an inside cabin.

    I... travel off season

My favourite way to be a tightwad is to.. BOOK CRUISES ON CRUISES! I know it sounds mad, it also makes the post cruise blues a little more bearable.

Its best when cruise lines have another 3rd party based onboard as they often have cheaper prices than the cruise line, combining this with onboard 'deposit' bonuses can save you a ton of money! I would 100% recommend.

It is a little bit more work than booking on land, I on my last cruise had to buy a cruise next certificate from NCL and take that to the third party. (little more about what I did here incase you are interested: http://cruisingisntjustforoldpeople.co.uk/2017/05/13/how-i-saved-618/ )

I'm only 23 so like to think I am a master of the cheapskate cruise. :)

  4. It is important to pack pieces that you can wear for multiple occasions. Pack a dress that, for example, you could dress up for dinner or down for the beach. The key here is accessories, the right jewellery and shoes can transform an outfit from casual day wear to an elegant evening outfit. It’s crucial that items such as shrugs or jackets are neutral in colour so they can be paired with any outfit. You can’t go too wrong with colours such as black/white. :)

This is what I wore: http://cruisingisntjustforoldpeople.co.uk/2016/11/08/cunard-dress-code/ I didn't wear that red dress to the beach but I did all the others!

  5. I would say 100% yes!

A city break could be cheaper but by the time you've added on food entertainment etc it probably isn't too different...

I like a good mix of city breaks and cruises though.

  6. That you for sharing your interesting blog site.

The article by your guest blogger, Doug, is very informative and will encourage those with disabilities to go cruising

    Thank you :)

Doug is on a mission to show people that being disabled doesn't mean you have to miss out on cruising.

Glad it was of use! He will be pleased to know :-)

  7. As far as disabled cabins go I would say p&o! They have huge disabled cabins.

NCL are possibly not the greatest as they're very full ships (queues for lifts etc).

I have a friend who has written a guide to disabled cruising here: http://cruisingisntjustforoldpeople.co.uk/2016/12/28/guest-post-a-complete-guide-to-cruising-with-a-disability/

Hope that helps, it's a pretty thorough guide!

  8. eh - 2am to 7am ship is a ghost town. Buffet snacks close by 12 or 1 I think and don't reopen until 5/6ish (limited options only, breakfast buffet doesn't open until later). O'sheehans will be open. Outside of that it's the casino and walking around the public areas of the ship.

I've definitely managed to find food at around 3am before, I remember eating cookies. Haha :-)

There's always some people somewhere... NCL ships are pretty lively.

  9. Yes yes yes yes yes! Nice is one of the best cities to walk around. There is so much to do (I agree with the very detailed post above). It is such a lovely place to have a walk up and down the promenade. Make sure you walk up the castle on the hill for some incredible views! Hope I've attached this photo okay...

  10. Welcome! You 100% will become addicted to cruising :')

You've come to the right place! Here's a couple of things that I recon you should know before cruising with Carnival (hints and tips that kinda thing). http://cruisingisntjustforoldpeople.co.uk/2017/05/11/10-things-carnival/

Sounds like you're already pretty excited and all covered on your research... but hey! Can't never be too informed right?!

    Have a fantastic time!!

  11. That sounds like a really good plan to me!

I stayed in a hotel which was just one block back from south beach (made it a lot cheaper!) would thoroughly recommend it.

It is called La Flora. I booked a standard room which was upgraded (for free) to an apartment. It was bigger than my flat at home!

More about that here: http://cruisingisntjustforoldpeople.co.uk/2017/01/07/fort-lauderdale-airport-to-the-port-of-miami/ I've also talked about the time it took to get to the hotel from the port and how much the taxi cost.

I stayed there after my cruise, hope that helps!

  12. A little off topic, but we are crusing on the Getaway in July in the Baltic, so potentially cooler weather. my mother is wondering if the pools are usable when weather is mild, say mid 60's, do they have heat lamps, covered areas?

Nope no heat lamps, they're pretty protected but still get cold...

I'd stay in the hot tub ;)
