To continue the discussion a bit on "completing the fleet". I did a little research. I took my first cruise in September of 2000 on Zaandam. I had no idea that over 20 years later I would still be taking cruises and much longer than that first one. It appears that the HAL fleet when I started consisted of Nieuw Amsterdam III, Noordam III, Westerdam III, Statendam V, Maasdam, Ryndam, Veendam I, Rotterdam VI, Volendam II, Zaandam, Amsterdam. Of those ships, I missed the first four, and have sailed on all the rest in addition to all the ships that HAL acquired since. Maybe @Copper10-8 can verify the ship list.

By the end of 2019 I had achieved the goal of every HAL ship then in existence. I have added several trips on Rotterdam and Nieuw Statendam with one more coming up, so that is still the case. I think each class of ship has advantages and would gladly sail on any BHB at any time.

In early December 2010 my sister joined me for a partial Panama Canal on Zuiderdam. Someone from the roll call had found a vendor in Puerto Limon that had two excursions available. One was a leisurely boat ride on the coast showing the local flora and fauna. The second was to Veragua Rainforest, a bit of a distance from the port. The total time for both was a bit more than what was available, but by combining them and not returning to the port until the finish we made it in plenty of time. We had a relatively small group and went directly to the boats when we arrived in Puerto Limon. We spent about 90 minutes exploring the coast line, then loaded back into the bus for the trip to Veragua. That place is beautiful. It was, and still is, a research area that has tours as a side line. It was very well laid out and was very educational. Included was a overhead tram, and a zip line for those interested. Sorry, no pictures. I did take a few but that was a couple of moves ago and I’m not sure where they are. If you are in the area, consider either excursion. It is 7pm here on the east coast and the internet technician was here earlier. For information purposes, this is not the first time someone has been out here due to problems with the internet. He was actually here working outside for maybe ten or fifteen minutes before he came to the door and talked to me about the problem. It seems that my telephone line, and therefore internet, was connected so long ago that it was connected directly to the central office, about two miles away. It just happens that there is now a connection box across the street, about 250 feet away. He ran a new wire to the connection box and I have a better connection than I have ever had, and he is not finished. It will take about a week to get the connection finished and it should be better still.

Thanks for this. I was able to add mine a couple of minutes after, my initial post, and I removed the message about my internet problems. In my area we only have one choice for internet provider, and it isn't great. After my initial post I remembered that the desktop I use to post each morning has wireless capability and I turned on my phone hotspot to post the map. Hopefully they will be able to find the problem this afternoon and i will be better off, but my hopes are not real high.

It is interesting how attitudes change. Long ago cruises were all inclusive and were advertised as one price. The cruise lines did reserve the right to charge more if the port charges and taxes went up. People wanted to see those charges separately, so the cruise lines started selling them that way and started refunding when port charges went down. Now people are complaining about not seeing the full price, and advertising will change again until people complain again.
