hello, anybody know something about a big group on the Rotterdam,08/23/2009?(i don't mean the knitting groupe of the mike owners group, they were on the list already for a couple of moths ).
In 1 day,at once the hole ship is sold out, except for the suites and the penthouse! Very strange, so i have the idea that a big group made a reservation.

Might not be a group -- you are 83 days out, near final payment. Every now and then HAL will take all (or most) of a cruise off the site in order to realign cabins, guarantees and TA blocks. I would bet that within a day or so, quite a bit will be open again.

I don't believe RSVP belongs on this list...it is not a "group cruise", as they book the whole ship for their trips.
I generally include charters, when I know about them, on the list as it shows why cruises during that time period are not available.

I am bringing this back up to the top to mention a couple of thing, prompted by this thread - http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=995081
Every now and then, not on a regular schedule, I take a couple of hours and search for possible groups and charters. When I find them, I add them to the database. At this time I really don't do any checking for inconsistencies - hoping that will be pointed out by people on that cruise.
For those that find charters or groups - it is easier for me if I get the information via email. I visit Cruise Critics regularly, and generally see any thread with group or charter in the title, but could easily miss one.
BTW - any comments on the changes I made several weeks ago?

Surprised not to find a thread about the May 16 New York Manhattan departure of the MS Rotterdam to transAtlantic to Rotterdam NL. Is there any one else on this interesting itininery?
is there a Cruise Critic forum or leader?
This would be under roll calls -
see http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=789708 for that cruise
enjoy

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, April 21 (Reuters) - Canadian police have struck a C$76 million ($61 million) deal with two units of cruise line operator Carnival Corp (CCL.N) to house security personnel during the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.
Carnival's Holland America and Carnival Cruise Lines units will supply a total of three ships to serve as floating hotels in Vancouver harbor during the Winter Olympics and Paralympics, according to police officials.

Does anybody know what "The Mikes Owners Group" is?
They seem to be onboard The Rotterdam in august and i find out that they have there own shore excursionreservation for that trip.
burny
My best guess is Mike owns a travel agency and is escorting a small group cruise of prior clients. It's very common for groups of any size to arrange their own shore excursions. Where did you see this?
Hammy - that group is listed on shoretrips, so it was listed on my list. Shoretrips lists the private excursions, and nothing else. I would also guess that it is a TA group, but I have no way of knowing.

Rich, I just discovered that Elderhostel has group space on several HAL South America itineraries on the Amsterdam (March/09) and the Veendam (Nov/Dec 09). They have a full program of activities for port & sea days.
http://www.elderhostel.org/programs/programdetail.asp?DId=1-46BNR5
Any idea of the size of a typical Elderhostel group? Would they have any tangible impact on regular guests on these sailings?
From their website
The ship can carry 1200 passengers, of whom approxiately 48 are Elderhostel particpants. All cabins have air-conditioning and private bathrooms with shower.

I see from the list of events of HAL cruiseships that we have "Cardiology Update" on our Rotterdam cruise on 31st May. Has anyone come across this group. I am assuming (hopefully correctly) that they will be a small group and no impinge too much on the cruise.
Most (all?) of the groups with names similar to this are seminars for doctors. The group will generally be small, around 100 or so, and you most likely would not have noticed them without seeing the list.

I would like to know what is meant by "Unverified Posible Charter" for the Nov 29 Eurodam cruise. It's been lisyed that way for months.
In May Caribbean Boy posted that the Nov 29 Eurodam cruise would be chartered. There was discussion at that time about how to handle it. Putting Unverified Possible charter was the solution we came up with. Sorry, I never thought to remove it.

Philadelphia Eagles Fan Cruise - Eurodam March 21 - 28, 2009
This group has been added - thanks for your help.
I wish there was a great link (groups) like this for other cruise linesUnfortunately like cruisecal and porttime found out this is time consuming. If I were to get enough input from others in a reasonably formated message I could add other lines. However, I only sail HAL so that is all I post.

After 350 posts, all very interesting, I guess I will add mine. I had 6 years active USN with 9 hrs "sea" time (Panama Canal Transit in 1977 aboard the USS Kinkaid) I had my first cruise on the Zaandam in 2000. As with many, the first was the best. Two of the cruise staff were from SEC schools (FL and KY) so we had a lot to talk and joke about. I had a great time and was more than ready to cruise again. As a side note, the Kinkaid was a new build out of Mississippi when I did the transit and is now a reef somewhere.

You have to have them at a web location, such as webshots or in your space supplied with your web account. Then, look above the typing area and you will see an icon that looks like a post card. Click on that, then enter the location of the image. It will then show up in your post -- like this

These groups are on the June 29th Westerdam sailing.
Women of Faith Conference
Faith Lutheran families and friends
Family Medicine
I currently list only cruises about a week out, because I feel that anything closer is really too late to worry about if you don't already know. If everyone wishes, I can change it to start on the current date.

One person posted a tease of a post suggesting that that would be the next cruise to be chartered but gave no further information. Rich, if nobody else has come up with any reason to believe it, and the OP on that topic has not returned, perhaps those unverified charters should just be removed from the list?
Or has someone heard more about those since the topic first came up?
This was talking about the 2/22 Westerdam. It has now been verified as a full charter
Hal booking agent says group has reserved all early dining 12/14/08on Veendam. I'm guessing it would not be party group if they eat early. Any idea on who it could be? There is no roll call so far, so maybe it's a big group. Thanks for any help.
I just verified that a large group is on this sailing, numbering around 700, but they were unable to tell me the name of the group.
The 2/28 Eurodam still has some time to complete a full charter. It remains a posibility.

The list I keep, http://www.wa70.com/hdisplay.php, shows a continuing education group for doctors in family practice on that cruise. Should be a small group and not bother you.
Rich

That entry was put in due to comments on this thread -- see post by lvz2cruz about 7 posts back. I have been unable to verify what kind of group this is, but according to that post, all early dining has been taken by the group making it about 700 or so.

My search so far only came up with a travel consolidator having some rooms. I would not imagine that would be enough to reserve, nor would everyone from a consolidator want, a specific dining time. Maybe someone else knows.

Your list shows that the 4/5/08 sailing of the Ryndam will have a carplayer poker group on board. I went to their web site and it doesn't show this cruise. Can you verify that the group will be on this cruise?
Thanks
The information was correct at the time it was added. There are several reasons you might not have found it. First is that there are several groups offering poker cruises. Second, since the cruise is not far off, they may have sold out and pulled it from their site. I have no way other than web searches to find these groups, so I have no one to call to verify if a group still exists.
The list exists as a guide only. I hope you enjoy your cruise.

Is there a way to find out about groups on other lines other than HAL?
we are presently booked for a RCI ship (as noted in my signature)
any info would be appreciated.
Since no one has any other answer, I will tell you what I know. My list was generated due to interest on this board. In following threads about groups, I have seen a list for CCL, but no where else (but I might have missed one).
I do not believe any board other than here and CCL has such a list.

Thanks for the clarification, it has now been corrected. It may take a day or so for the change to be applied everywhere.
