  1. I might have to try that Pain Killer. I am not much of a drinker (don't like to taste the alcohol), usually going for frozen drinks like the BBC, Twilight Zone or Miami Vice. Since we have the UBP on our next cruise, I figure this is the perfect opportunity to try something new. And since I may drink more than my usual 5 drinks per cruise, I don't want the calories of all those frozen drinks. I love fruity drinks and love, love coconut so the Pain Killer sounds like something I might like. I would love any other suggestions.

What is the BBC,Twilight Zone, and Miami Vice consist of?

  2. We are considering on cruising on the Joy at the end of December. We booked airline tickets back in July with the intention of cruising but after reading posts saying Americans probably wouldn't like it we decided not to. Now we are considering it again since the price is still the same (we are a family of 4. My husband and I are in our early 40's and we have a 14 & 16 year old). What exactly is so different cruising on a ship intended for Asian passengers versus one for American passengers? I have seen mention that it is very different but how? I watched a video that someone mentioned and at the very end of the video they guy mentioned crowds, line jumping, people rushing around, and throwing trash around but is that it? How bad is it? If we go with that mindset I think that is something I can deal with as we tend to keep to ourselves. My main concern is that we do not speak any Chinese (we have apps on our phones but haven't been very good at using them). I know the ship is a Mandarin speaking crew but I imagine that some of them will know English especially if they have worked on any other NCL cruises. Anyone have tangible information about what it is like to sail on a cruise intended for Chinese passengers?
I'm so happy that you asked this question. I just seen the race track and know my family would love this ship.

  3. They are overwhelmed sometimes now. I hope this doesn't cause any problems with the concierges being available. Suite prices are going through the roof, the services expected should not be a problem. I'm Platinum, but since we tried the suite life, we only sail in them.

I tried to book an inside but my Grandchildren won't have it now that they stayed in the two bedrooms suite. They love watching the tv while bathing or looking out the window.

  4. One thing to keep in mind is, if you take the advice of those recommending public transport, it's not too easy to manage with two weeks worth of stuff in your suitcase(s). Whereas a car service or taxi will make life easier.

True it's not all that easy but it's possible. I travel by public transportation. Fly into either JFK or LGA. Take the airport bus to grand central station then taxi to pier. Short walk to grand ctrl but you can flag down a cab where they let you off.

  5. You CAN all board together.

If you contact the concierge desk (NorwegianConciergeDesk@ncl. com), you can request that the non-Haven guest and the Haven guests board together. His check-in process will be the same as the Haven guests and his stateroom key-card will given to him in the Haven check-in area. He will be escorted along with the rest of the group.

This must be done and approved BEFORE arriving at the terminal.

Thanks that's great to know. My son's gf is staying in a single and I know he wants to be with her.

  6. Suite dwellers are not escorted to their suites. A butler will take a big group up to the Haven and dump you there. There is no tour or anything of the like, at least in our past 3 Getaway cruise. They will show you where your room is if you ask, but each guest is certainly not taken personally to their suite. When we had suites outside of the Haven we dropped our carryi on and went on our merry way to lunch.

There is no reason that your DD cannot wait behind. You need to check in as a family, but that is it.

she is not required to board with you. You are also under no obligation to board with Haven folk.

I don't know what ship you are on, but this has been our experience

We had a prescription problem on our last cruise . We all checked in but hubs left and boarded about 90 minutes after us. Haven H7 suite.

I wasn't even in the Haven but on the Gem and both times I was escorted to my room.

  7. They will not cancel the cruise. Changes of ports, change of port time, change of embarkcation port and/or time yes. Cancel no, that is what insurance is for.

2012 Hurricane Sandy, left Brooklyn (Princess) for Bermuda, turned left within 16 hours was tied up in Boston with 23 lines and two tug boats holding us to the pier in 90knot winds. Other cruiselines tried to make Bermuda and had problems. An NCL ship, not the Dawn who is homeported in Boston came up from Florida as Boston was the first port open they could reprovision.

As to the next sailing, they told everyone that it was still on even with Manhattan without power you were to get there and sail on the repo cruise.

2014 Hurricane Arthur was supposed to go to Saint Johns NB, that time never made the left, went to Bermuda for the the day.

    The ship will sail...

I was on the Jewel during Sandy. It was a trip..everything falling over..Everton getting sick including me and some of the crew..but it beat being on land.
