Funny story. I recently had major surgery on Oct 27. If anyone needs an expert on diverticulitis and the surgery, let me know. Anyway.....I went to the grocery store about a week later, and made the decision to use the scooter in the store instead of walking. WRONG! I was a danger to all. It was more stressful on me trying to maneuver that scooter around than if I had just sucked it up and walked the store.
A fellow diverticulitis sufferer. Welcome. It's a fairly big club. I had a foot of colon removed 2 months before a planned cruise. We ended up canceling because of complications. Glad you're healing well. M

i made our verandah view my CC profile picture but it only shows up under my profile, otherwise i get a yellow star as my avatar.

you are dead wrong. I'm in my 60's. I cared for my mother with Parkinson's that eventually killed her. My father is in his 90's with dementia. Still, i wouldn't take them on a cruise. I saw people fall on this ship. What a dangerous situation if they had fractured something. How dare you make assumptions about me.

oh, i didn't know someone died. I must say there were a ton of older people on this cruise ship. I felt like i was part of a nursing home excursion. And I am glad these folks are up for taking cruises but there were a lot of wheel chairs, scooters and walkers around ship. It definitely is the last time we sail with HAL.

just got back from the 10-day sailing. don't know if a thread was posted about 2 (yes, 2) medvac's within 4 days on this ship. The 1st happened onboard during Half Moon Cay. A helicopter had to fly in from FL to Half Moon and take the seriously injured passenger to Nassau -some 80- miles away. Sail away time was delayed about an hr. Then 2 days later it happened again. no details were given, but someone was choppered off the island.
then we had to delay slightly from Aruba (or Bonaire) as we awaited medical supplies to be flown in. Too much commotion for me. never ever got an update on the poor passengers.

well as I was the passenger onboard that cabin I will post my 'unobstructed 'photos as soon as i figure out how. In the meantime, if you think it would be so much fun --go book this room for yourself.

Since standard boarding time is 11:30 AM, barring unusual circumstances, that's what I would presume it will be tomorrow, too.
That's the time HAL aims for pretty much fleet wide.
you're on the ship--we got there at 1 and the long snaked all the way around the building .. more of a review after i decompress from 10 days on Con Dam

We booked a guarantee VE balcony cabin and were given cabin 7005. This cabin is below the bridge and the view is obstructed by the bridge and equipment hanging down such as the search light. It should be sold as an obstructed view balcony cabin not as a VE cabin.
The same issue must also affect cabin 7006 on the other side of the ship.
-
so we are directly below the bridge. no sun?

I just saw a review of this stateroom that says it should be sold as an obstructed view, as the bridge and spotlight blocks the view. Has anyone else been in this room that could tell me if this is indeed true? This was an upgrade for us, but I'm not wanting an obstructed view. The HAL phone operator says it's not.....but I wonder.
Worried in the midwest

We recently posted a new thread about the latest US News and World Report rankings. Among the HAL ships the Koningsdam rated near the bottom of the heap. The negatives just keep on coming and what is troubling is that the K'Dam is the model ship for the future of HAL.Hank

looked online today and found we DID get our cabin assignment. I had been waiting for an email.
Deck 7 for us.
All of you waiting might want to check your reservation.
18 days to go!!!:D

i booked a room an deck 4--not knowing it was above the World Theater. Also, the prices had gone down, so today I called and i have a VE guarantee. So we won't know what room we're in until 10 days out. We sail 12/4-14.
Anyone else have a guarantee? Are you concerned? The reviews of this ship are not encouraging.
We have a VE on Deck 7 ...Very pleased although the verandah is a smaller one than on deck 4.

I did enjoy 10 lovely days with my husband, seeing beautiful ports and eating delicious food. As i said--we go where a ship itinerary takes us. Having sailed HAL a few times, the Boston to Bermuda cruise interests me, but onboard cruise booking was priced almost tripe what this 10-day Koningsdam cost.
