  1. The NCL free at sea promotion offers a drink package, gratuities or specialty restaurants. These are not free. You'll have to pay the gratuities on the drink package which is about $100 per person for a 7 day cruise.

I wasn't aware of that, thanks for letting me know. Still sounds like a good price though, $200 for 2 people to drink on a 7 day cruise. And with the $200 added, it still comes to less than the RCL cruise would cost, so not bad IMO.

  2. We have done the Oasis and the Getaway. I enjoyed both ships, but I would personally choose Oasis over Getaway. We spend a lot of our time at the pool and Getaway's pool area is small and cramped. Oasis has several pools so it felt much less crowded and just had a better layout. Getaway had a lot of great dining options, though. I guess you would just have to decide what is most important to you. Either way, you will have a great time!!

Thank you for the reply. Norwegian is also offering 3 meals at Specialty restaurants as well so it's good to hear about their dining options.

  3. We have been on both the Allure and the Getaway. They both are very nice ships. We prefer the MDR on Allure, but we prefer the specialty restaurants on the Getaway. The drink package for around $100pp definitely tips the scales to NCL if all else is the same. Which ever one you choose, you will have a wonderful vacation!!

Thank you for the reply. The drink package included is what I think will be the deciding factor. This will be our Honeymoon and I'm sure we will like drinks. Besides, this will be our 6th cruise and nowhere near the last. We will definitely be trying Oasis and Allure in the near future as well.

  4. I haven't done the Sky since it changed to all inclusive. My understanding from reading in here is that the customer just orders a drink. The bartender rings it's up but only for inventory. Everyone on your ship has open bar, unlike the other ones that have the UBP which is purchased or promo'd.

Oh, that makes more sense then. It's true that the "open bar" is included with the ticket price so everyone would be getting drinks for free.

  5. We were staying in the Haven, so the concierge took care of the bogus charges. Even still, it was a bit of a hassle because he had to call the bar manager for each venue that charged us. My sister was charged twice for virgin pina coladas. Each time they were billed as a smoothies, which aren't covered under the UBP. Guest services will remove any bogus charges. The hassle is having to go there in the first place [emoji849]

Understood, that does sound like a bit of a hassle.

  6. Be sure to double check your final statement. I was on the GA in October and my sister and I had the UBP. There were several charges for drinks that we had to have removed.

Thank you. The thought had already crossed my mind that they may "mistakenly" charge people so I planned on this. Was it a hassle to get them to remove the charges or just as simple as going by guest services?

  7. I have been on both RCCL and NCL. I like both. But NCL is a more relaxed atmosphere. I hope you have an amazing time!

I'm 23 and my fiance' is 22. We've never minded the atmosphere on Royal so it will probably be a change of pace for us. We have loved Royal but figured we would give NCL a chance since they were offering the free drink package.
