  1. We're on the explorer arriving in Santorini sun 30 June.

I'm trying to decide on whether to book a marella on shore excursion or DIY

The excursions havent been released yet but my research shows they normally offer ; megalichori/pyrgos/thira or boat to thermal springs/daphni

Neither of these appeal, will they add any other options? Ideally want to go to oia.

If we DIY,  do we have to queue for tender tickets, we'd want an early slot but suspect so would everyone else.

    Thanks

  2. We're arriving in Santorini on  Sunday 30th June

    4 ships that day,

    We're the 1st at 7am

    Celebrity infinity at 8am

Norwegian epic and celestyal discovery arrive early afternoon

Looking at options to minimise crowds

I'm considering a marella on shore excursion, when do they release these?(Just looked and not available yet)

If we go independent I'm considering catching a water taxi to ammoudi bay, spend some time in oia, bus or taxi to imeroviglia, walk coastal path via skaros rock back to fira, cable car or walk back down. Is this doable? Our ship leaves at 6pm.

We might even consider walking full route from oia to fira, I know it'll be hot but we're fit 40 somethings with no kids. Is the full route worth it or is the south half best?

    How are buses in Santorini?

Looked at taxis and can pre-book for €30 oia to imeroviglia, might be a struggle to specify a collection time though .How easy is it to just grab one if not pre-booked?

Final option is just skip oia, walk from tender port up(if cable car busy) then to imeroviglia and skaros and back then walk back down. Would we regret missing oia! I know it involves the steep walk both up and down but I reckon we'd be ok(previous trips we've always done steep walks that people have discouraged and been fine)

    Thanks for any guidance

  3. Thanks Keith ---- This is NOT an embarking day - it is day 2 of the cruise (NCL EPIC - Livorno / Florence)

We are planning on taking a local bus transfer (Tuscany Bus Company) to Florence and Pisa. Arrival is scheduled in Livorno at 17:20 - Ship leaves at 19:00

I think we won't have an issue - I'm surprised to see the comment to be back on ship by 2 hours considering they say 7 am to 7 pm at this stop.

    Playing it safe!!!

We did exactly same tour with same company off same ship last year..most of the tour will be off the Epic.. they'll definitely get you back in time(think they might even guarantee it on there website)..last year tour took us back to the ship instead of dropping us off at the shuttle stop even though we had plenty of time.

It's a good tour for the money also..bit rushed but good way of seeing the main sites. Enjoy

  4. We are on the star in just over a month and haven't prebooked any restaurants.

We would probably like to eat in the mdrs 4 out of the 7 nights..the buffet a couple of nights then 1 night in one of the speciality restaurants.

How easy is it to get a table without booking?

Is it worth booking on the morning or booking all the restaurants on embarkation?

    Thanks

  5. Does anyone have a current Star beer list for the Greek Island itineraries? Do they have anything special in the Beer Garden? Any IPAs? I️ heard a rumor that they have Little Sumptin Sumptin, which is at least better most of the mainstream beers they carry. Any truth to that?

They had little sumpin' on epic last year..its a nice (but strong) modern ipa

I've heard rumours they've started stocking goose island ipa but would love to hear confirmation of this

  6. We are on the Ncl star docking in katakolon on wed 29 August

We want to get to Olympia and don't want an organised tour so we are planning on DIYing.

We are considering using the train but are concerned about it's infrequency and reliability.

I've read that the train timetable is linked to what ships are in port and to the best of my knowledge we are the only ship that day so I guess there will be a train departing shortly after we dock at 11am.

Would there then be a scheduled return train linked to the ships disembarkation time and would this be advertised?

How much later than the ships arrival time would the real depart?

What happens if you miss the train and can the train be full?

Has anyone got personal experience of using this train?

I've seen alternative options of private bus transfers..can anyone recommend one they've used themselves.

    Thanks
