  1. Luckily, there are exceptions to the generalizations previously posted about lecturers. Dr. Don Klein (http://drdonklein.com/lectures/lecture-info/) was a wonderful resource on our recent Amazon cruise on Sirena. His in-depth lectures covered the entire history of the Amazon as well as the individual histories of each port we visited, from San Diego to Rio. He also provided running commentary from the bridge at various times, such as when we went through the Panama Canal. Of course, since he had visited all of the ports many times previously, he could give us highlights on what to see, local customs and other useful information. Our cruise was tremendously enhanced through Don's presentations.

Totally agree. Dr. Klein was excellent. We had the pleasure to hear him in march of last year (buenos aires to lima).

  2. 2 weeks in dry dock is enough time to do many cosmetic upgrades. But a total retrofit resulting in fewer cabins but larger suites, a 3rd SR, rewiring for smart tech use, etc.. could take up to 10 months. That's a long time to be off line. So, it will boil down to cost/benefit. Meanwhile, the industry is getting more competitive and there are headwinds. Oceania needs to be proactive.

  3. The optimal cost/benefit scenario is likely to show a complete retrofit resulting in less cabins but with more suites and better bathroom design. Moreover, they will introduce smarter use of tech throughout the ship (as you suggest).

The casino idea is tricky. It's a moneymaker for the cruise line.

Another SR? They will only do it, if the client base wants it.

If they fastback i.e. build/design, they could do the retrofit in 10-12 months.

  4. A simple and inexpensive alternative for Mac Users is to purchase an External DVD Drive (cost about $29) and plug it in your Mac Laptop. Insert your DVD into the external drive and presto, the movie comes right up.

Is it possible to connect an IPad to the cabin TV to watch downloaded movies? If so what cables are required/
  5. DW has had sashimi at the Terrace and she loves it. Enjoy!

    Hi all,

We are so excited for our upcoming Baltic Cruise on Marina.... and as a food lover, I've spent a lot of time researching the posts and menus for the GDR and Specialty Restaurants.

Since the dining on Oceania is so luxurious and rich, if we wanted a light dinner, such as sashimi, on a couple nights ... what is the quality that you've experienced at Terrace Cafe?

I'm not a huge salad person and prefer protein ... so sashimi is always is a hit for me for a lighter dinner.

    Thoughts and opinions are appreciated!

    Thanks.

  6. Anyone taking this excursion offered by Oceania-- July 14 Baltic Cruise. Oceania

says that the 4 mile hiking segment is rigorous and that a "sturdy pair of hiking boots" should be used. Curious if anyone has done this hike and is Oceania accurate in their description.

  7. We are taking the Buenos Aires to Lima Cruise next month and the House Select Package is included. Does anyone know what the incremental cost to switch to the Prestige Package. I see where the difference between the two packages is $20.00ppd but I am uncertain if that is what Oceania would charge, or would they charge the entire cost of the Prestige pkg which is $59 ppd.

  8. There should be a roll call for your cruise and a Ports Of Call message board on CC for the area that you want to find about. The ports of call boards are from all cruise ships and are very helpful with more info. than just O passengers can give you. They are for the whole world. Hope you find what you need. :):):)

Very helpful, thanks. Cozumel and Costa Maya are the points of interest.
