It is the same ole snake oil and shell game played on a Ouija board with supplement answers on a Magic *8* ball.

Prices raised NCL offers more (not really) free stuff

Prices lower NCL puts stuff back into the hat

And remember that stuff - free or otherwise there is always those FEES and GRATUITIES !

Amazing NCL conjured up free money OBC out of those increased fares.

Nothing wrong here with NCL salesmanship just be aware of what you actually are getting for your money !

The programs packages free stuff - it comes and it goes - something in constant flux - whatever the buyer

and the market will be enticed into paying.

Mostly sound, but significant OBC has been gone for some time, at least directly from NCL.  In it's place they have put the airfare that might be of some benefit.   However, for those that it is a benefit they are hooked with the original fare when the fare drops or else buy the air as mentioned in this thread.

I picked the $50 shore excursion credit as my perk. I’ve already booked my excursions online, and paid using my credit card. From what I understand, I will then have the $50 per port credited to my account after I take each excursion, and treated as OBC.

I think I will probably have some of the OBC left at the end of cruise. I’ve read conflicting information as to how it will be refunded to me: I’ve heard that NCL will send a check for the amount a few weeks after the cruise, but I’ve also read where people are not allowed to disembark until they go to guest services, and get the OBC refunded in cash. Can anyone enlighten me as to what is usually done in this situation?

We also found that when we did a disembarking shore excursion, like a tour through the Everglades, that you had to contact NCL to get the $50 credit (after all the credit is not given until after the excursion and we were no longer on the ship).   We have always got it as an additional OBC on our next cruise, but then we did not press for a check.

    Dogs find them as well...

But LOL having them isolate the capsules from the daily pill pocket containers with all the other herbals, vitamins and any prescription drugs.  Just tell them you packed up your daily supplement allotment is a Cannabus legal state while you where imbibing.   They are not likely go through the hassle of testing every pill and capsule for such as obvious personal stash that is likely a false positive because the owner was stoned when he was packing it.  Sure, there is still a risk, but it is minimized to the max.

I’m a medical marijuana patient.  I smoke just 3 hits before going to bed.  Since there is no smoking in the cabins, I’m wondering how others have dealt with this problem.  I hate the edibles they take way to long to work and do not give me the pain relief I get from smoking.

Sure no edible is going to give you an instant hit, but the cumulative effect will be more powerful and longer lasting with the toxins inherent in smoking or vaping something.   Also more of the stuff is wasted in the air  enroute through your lungs than going into your blood stream from your gut.     Edibles, particularly capsules definitely give you more bang for the buck.   If the edibles and capsules you tried in the past did not work, find another vendor, try another brand, give it more time.    Heck, even that higher doses of the OTC CBD available everywhere might do the trick for you if you increase the dose and do not expect that stupid instant buzz.

Do it on board. When you log in the first time on board, it will ask you if you want to upgrade. Say yes and then you will see the credit to your onboard account for the 250 mins promo. I've done this and it worked fine.

Wow, so nice to not have to stand in line to upgrade from free at sea 250 promo to unlimited.    Can you advise on which ship you were able to do this?

    Thanks.

Thank you for the detailed information on what to expect and how to make the reservations.  It’s interesting how the  different cruise lines do things differently. I sure hope we can get into the comedy club.  I will go try to book shows as soon as we embark.  I guess I will book the other shows online soon, and then we can always change them, right? Thanks again!

One thing you can do ahead of your sailing is to review the Dailies (others have posted complete sets for the Breakway on this site) and figure out what days have the comedy shows you are interested in.  Note them and then you can set up your Broadway shows and other reservations, such as dinner.

Here's our tap water from our bathroom on a recent cruise

Ahh, can we have more details?   What ship?  What sailing?   Are you sure the glass was not used or dirty?   Is it a glass or tinted plastic cup?

While we always buy the 12 liter water package for the 3 of us for a week, we regularly fill glasses with water for soaking stuff and have never seen water that did not match the clarity of the purchased water.   The water in the toilet or coffee machine has never been off colored either.  Really need clarification on this rarity.

Is the Rock of Ages still playing?  Time to move on.

Yes, one can still make reservations to the Rock of Ages through at least September that I have checked.    But we still need some intelligence on this new Velvet show.   Many made the choice of the Breakaway rather than other ships so that they could enjoy a cirque show with their kids.   Now we are hearing of a sex slave show masked with some aerobics and perhaps some dancing.    Which story is more correct.   Would a normal family take their six to 10 year old kids or tweens or even their teenagers without any of their parties being embarrassed or disgusted?   At nearly $30 a head that a lot a money to spend on something that one has to walk out of during dinner, a mediocre dinner at that.    That is the information that we need.

(And I am coming from camp of advising several cruiselines to come up with more adult shows in the after cruise survey from 10 to 19 years ago.    They have met that request, but now they appear to be going overboard in eliminating family events to meet the needs of old people.)

Wow..so you are going to "let them" huh? I didn't realize that it was up to you.

Yeah, sure...correct people because they didn't use the full proper room name, but then go ahead an use the wrong names and act like everyone else is crazy. Sure... you go ahead and "let them"...seems reasonable to me. Especially since he is attacking someone for something that they posted in a completely different thread.

Naw, after doing much research and observation he simply pointed out the fact that the OP was just a troll.  Particularly bringing up the note the OP was in the OS on the Dawn as well.   Trolls should be stamped out like bugs, no one (sane) would be having an argument with one.

Have to add we see your next cruise is on the cruise line that should have been ejected from US ports for multiple repeat environmental violations.   Really weakens your credibility on the NCL board----NCL has not been under probation since 2000.

Yeah, I saw those and I saw something above the TV in the living room that I thought might be a pullman.

Has anyone seen any pictures of how the sofa opens up? On the Getaway they relocated the cushions to extend the sofa, does this one open up like a convertible or is it more like the Getaway?

    CC693FBB-CCBE-41CD-950D-C6AA3EC39818.jpeg

I believe I have read on these boards that those H8 on Deck 9 might be like this Getaway picture,  but the sofa beds on 11 and 13 could be opened as a twin bed for a single sleeper, or opened further ----with lesser height off the floor as at least a double sleeper.    It was just as comfortable when we had set up either way each night.   (Spouse could not decide if she would rather put up with snoring or a tossing tween daughter).    We definitely did not have to ever navigate around the cushions or even the chair set up like this Getaway picture to reach the balcony with the bed set up.

Looking to book an H8 on the Bliss. For the 4 person versions, is there a Pullman bed, or does the sofa sleep 2?

Sleeper sofa, more like a double but comfortable.   Really cozy for two larger adults, but ok for kids or one adult and a kid.   Avoid deck 13, the balcony is too enclosed to enjoy, deck 11 is best, but 9 is ok.     Enjoy.

  12. Interesting,  we have always bought power strips with breakers on our cruises.     Depending on the cabin steward we may have to unplug it  (not just turn it off) when we are out of the room.    Thought that was strange since no power should be flowing to it when the room power is off.  Maybe it has to with with the cabin, we generally stay in at least a balcony or above, maybe new cabin stewards that worked at other cruise lines are assigned to inside cabins.

Brief history of NCL increases and changes.

    2015.

Raised DSC twice within a few months.

Started charging for Room Service / continental breakfast exempt

Banned food from being removed from buffets. Quickly reversed when backlash from passengers occurred.

increase auto gratuity on drinks and specialty dining from 15% to 18%

    April 1 2017

    DCS increased again

    13.50 to 13.99 pp/day

    Suites 15.50 to 16.99

    April 1 2018

auto gratuity increased from 18% to 20%

    DCS increased again

    13.99 to 14.50

    Suites 16.99 to 17.50

began charging Suite guests gratuities on promos

    April 1 2019

    14.50 to 14.99

    Suites 17.50 to 18.00

Hmm, except for that 10% increase in Suites in 2017 these increase just look like typical inflationary prices changes that we all should have learned are to be expected.   NCL bending backwards  by allowing us to prepay our DSC when we book and not charging us more when they increase the DSC for the procrastinators.     The FED is trying to keep inflation under 3%, these are well within that limit.   What is the problem here?

  14. Yes, I am a regular double red or  platelet donor.   Sure it takes additional time each time to document that the ports we visited will not prevent me from donating, but most indications are that if we are only day visitors in the ports themselves, we can still donate.   I have cruised the Mexican Riviera, Eastern and Western Caribbean.  I always bring the cruise itineraries with me along with looking up any applicable states in the countries that the ports are located in to facilitate the screening process for one year after each sailing.

  15. I thought Breakaway had a drydock refurbishment in 2018.   Really have to wonder what they refurbished with the findings reported.

Really have to believe that with this publicity that the Breakaway will quickly become the cleanest ship in the fleet with more than adequate staffing to keep it that way.   The hotel director is likely working for Carnival now.

Anyone experience otherwise on a more recent cruise?

NCLH :OTC provides NO DIVIDEND still?

An OBC , called a Shareholder Benefit is great and an added benefit to cruisers of the Three Lines they have.

+ Other US Companies had great Stock Holder Benefits too.

EG: if you chewed GUM, wrigley used to send Shareholders sleeves of Chewing Gum as well a nice Dividend you could ReInvest for Compounding.

With constant changes in NCL policies it is going to take an Attorney and/or Barrsiter to decode the Legalize now at RCL :NYSE and NCLH :OTC

Please remember NCLH :OTC is actually an Asian Owned and HQ firm and now has the highest fees, we call TIPS. It has the largest cost for Bottled Water etc.. and your not allowed to bring your own..

Call Investor Relations and they offer a Dinner at the Pay as you Eat high cost aboard locations now instead of the OBC..

Wow, this stock listed on the NY Stock Exchange with only 2.5% of owned by Insiders inclusive of the management with most of held by Institutions like Vangard, Fidelity, pension groups, is considered Asian Owned?   At most the last major Asian ownership stake was only 20% before they sold all their holding way back in 2014.

The Investor Relation site continues to list the Shareholder benefit as we all understand it with the OBC.

Looks like this poster is from another reality or dimension, the facts suggested are far from what we all can Gooble or Bing.

    Move on...

I am about to go on my 6th NCL sailing the first week in June on the Escape. Contemplating paying outright for a Haven upgrade, rather than relying on bidding. I've never been in a Haven before, but I constantly track their pricing and inventory for all of my sailings. The cost difference between say, a BA balcony and any of the Haven suites seems to vary greatly from ship to ship and sailing to sailing. For those of you who sail Haven occasionally, how do you decide when the time is right to book a Haven versus just a balcony or mini-suite. Is there a difference in price point that you pay attention to?

Keep in mind in addition to the upgrade bid, you will end up paying for the concierge and butler gratuities.  You also will only be able to bring your original free at sea items that came with your balcony rather than all 5 that one receives if they book originally in Haven.   Then you have to consider what Latitude loyalty benefits you have attained.    We are the camp that the Haven is the only way to go, but may rethink that after are next cruise when we attain the Platinum benefits such as the specialty dining and early disembarkation.   If you have not ever done the Haven, it likely will be worth 1.5K/person to move up from balcony to experience it.  If you know what you are getting into, half that will like be a worthwhile bid.   Good luck.

  18. Noticed the private spa area in the Breakaway Haven.    Can anyone share what is in that Haven Private Spa area?

It appears to be outside the two hot tubs and swimming pool.  It is sauna or salt rooms?  Is it a place for massages?  If so, are staffed by that same gang that does the Madarin spa massages?   Do you schedule through the Haven concierge?    We are trying to determine if we really need Thermal Suite passes when staying in the Breakaway Haven.

    Thanks for any input.

Germs? Diseases? Dumping leftover food on the pier for them to eat the scraps like dogs? I can hear the ignorance and racism in your posts. I'm sure if they were European orphans you'd have no problem.

I did not suggest dumping the left over food on the pier, I just indicated that it could be left there instead of dumped in the garbage.  Anyone doing a behind the scene tour of any restaurant buffet know how much decent food is pulled and tossed simply because it is no longer on the menu.

Since most of the Roatan  population and thusly orphans are of European decent I fail to detect any racism in my comments.

We work hard for our money to spend on our cocoon sanitized cruise vacation.    The last thing we need is to become sick on our vacations.   We have other options, but prefer to keep away from the foreign diseases that might be bought on board by any one other than those swore they were healthy enough to be on the ship.   What this string has elicited is that there are a whole slew of folks that consider the healthy form seriously.   They are not getting their third world inoculations.  They likely are the type that do not scrub their hands while singing the birthday song after using the toilet.  So so much for hoping for a sanitize environment on a cruise ship.    At least we all have picked up on some tips what we can bring to the third world countries we cruise to  ease our guilt for enjoying the benefits of working so hard.

  20. Yes, purchased OBC are refundable and there are plenty of posts within this forum that document the refund after the cruise.  However, the promotional OBC they may give you for past guests, stock owners, and other promotions is not refundable, you use it or lose it.    But they seem to apply you ship and spa charges to the promotional OBC to use it up before charging against your purchased OBC.   NCL is fair and reasonable.

Hmmm, that's what I figured. We don't have another adult sailing - just 2 adults, 2 kids. It's a little frustrating as we would actually be spending just as much, if not more, to book 2 rooms rather than all staying in one Haven room. Kids don't need the Haven perks - they are in the club most of the time anyways. Back to planning....

Obviously it depends on kid's ages and gender, but you will find that most Haven are spacious enough that can hold 4 occupants are spacious enough to do so.   There is plenty of storage.   Most sofa beds can be configured for 2 adults.   We once stayed in connecting room Haven without the connecting room, looked in that connecting room when they had the door open housekeeping and gasped at how tight it was, especially against our room size.

  22. Go to guest service an purchase a gratuity voucher for your steward.   Give it to them with a thank you note.   They likely will be thrilled getting clean piece of paper rather than filthy money.    (Just google how much filth and cocaine is on our currency some time).

A great way to help is to visit Made in Roatan "Made in Roatan is a non profit shop that aids in teaching and helping local families to make wonderful hand crafted items: seaglass jewelry, local jade, wood carvings, paintings, coin jewelry, and local recycled tin. All proceeds go back to the local families Teach a man to fish...."  The shop is up the street from the Coxan Hole Cruise Dock.  They will accept all kind of craft supplies you can bring with you on the ship. Several years ago our Meet and Mingle group took a large donation of supplies. No better place to buy gifts to take home!! They have a Facebook page if your interested.

GREAT SUGGESTION!   Knowing of a means to help the third world while we are dropping in for a visit will greatly help the guilt that some feel at having been blessed to be living in 1st world country.   There has to be something more we can do than throw generous tips to our tour guides,  you have identified a way.

Got off the Breakaway last Sunday and just checked my Latitudes points to see if they were updated. They were and I now have 77 points but I am shown as being at Platinum Level.

Does anyone have any idea why I may now be Platinum though 3 points short? I am guessing it is just a glitch in the system but who knows?

Hey, if NCL gave us the points after each night's stay rather than at the end of the cruise, you would be at the Platinum level anyway in the middle of your next cruise, so why no move one up Platinum when it is inevitable.
