  1. Eduardo suggested that we walk along the Malecon and from here we saw a huge statue of a boy with a boy and a telescope . It was made for Carnival of Paper Mache . When we got here Eduardo had talked to one of the divers just before a cruise bus lined up He did the classic Swan dive with his head landing very close to the rocks ! We did drive past a couple of other Carnival attractions https://themazatlanpost.com/2022/01/19/soon-the-paper-mache-giants-will-arrive-to-dress-mazatlan-for-carnival/
  2. Paul is the only one leading with his right foot instead of his left . It's called goofy foot - on a surfboard .
  3. Our next stop at beautifully colored Mazatlan was the Liverpool Alley , something fairly new in Mazatlan . Mazatlan means " Place of the Deer " and the deer statue predates the Beatles statue by several years https://themazatlanpost.com/2021/12/09/the-beatles-arrive-at-olas-altas-in-mazatlan/ Please notice that there's always someone out of step
  4. A few from above Fishing for sea urchins The light house on the top The Nieuw Amsterdam in port This mural was painted above us and you can see another viewpoint just above the mural
  5. A view from the aft of the ship The return ride on the tram Where to meet guides or cabs outside of the port We would not be riding the Pulmonia around town this trip
  6. We were up early as is our norm but with another new port we wanted some comfort food before beginning the day Pat wanted toast instead of an English Muffin and we were done early and ready to go . All I knew of Mazatlán was stories of point break waves from the 60's when me and my surf buds dreamed of surfing the world . Today the visit ( but not the surfing ) became reality . The port was busy and unless you booked one of the ship's tours you had to ride a tram to leave the busy port . This arraignment and the look of the port gave me an eerie case of déjà vu . In San Antonio , Chile we had to board a bus to reach the Zaandam in port - but not before surrendering our passports for an undetermined amount of time to the authorities - NO EXCEPTIONS !
  7. After about an hour the whale stopped near the surface and relaxed for a while . We took the cue and the nap also . Dinner was once again at the Tamarind . We loved the Tempura vegetables And the wok Lobster And Penang Curry It was a pleasure to be able to meet and thank the man behind meals A quick sunset and desert
  8. I heard a big splash while on the verandah and ran and grabbed the other camera in time to find a breaching humpback I had yelled to Pat and to Tari and Rio our cabin attendants who we had just talked to . Pat did get this video clip When I went into the hall to call for out to let people know I had a whale sighting , I had a different sighting . Across the bay was the Dolphin Restaurant
  9. As we were returning to the ship on the pier we were told by a local to look at a couple of schools of fish by the pier . We have been SCUBA diving for a long time in many places but we have never seen a fish like these nor can we locate them or their name . Does anyone know these fish ?
  10. A room with a view The food was very fresh and at a good price . We did choose a quick cab ride instead of a walk at siesta time . The snacks were gifted to our cabin attendants who didn't seem to get much time to go ashore .
  11. It looked like the little mermaid sitting on a rock taking a selfie This area was dedicated to fishermen and was where the fishermen sold their catch The Dolphin Restaurant where we were the first customers at noon
  12. Along the bay the signs of the zodiac were displayed in bright colors As we tossed a water bottle in the recycle bin we heard our names . It was Mercedes and Joel from the Pinnacle . In their street clothes and with their hair down we almost didn't recognize them . We sat at a shade tree and couldn't resist a photo of a lady about our daughters age and a couple of kids about our youngest grandsons age . We sure missed them ! It was starting to get hot and we wanted to head to the East where we saw a restaurant that we wanted to try about a half a mile away
  13. More street art We had been looking for what we thought was a supermarket called Waldo's It was located under this arch which was located under the sailor kissing the girl fresco It turned out to be more like a Dollar store ( or should we say a Peso store )
  14. Manzanillo is known as the "Sailfish Capital of the World " Some street art Snoopy going Marlin fishing
  15. It's always comforting to see the Coast Guard on duty nearby Fire and Rescue staged on the pier
  16. When we couldn't find any guides available for Manzanillo we booked a HAL tour . We then looked at the internet and decided that we could DIY for what we wanted to do . We canceled our tour and used the money as our budget for the day . A distant full moon before the sunrise . The US Coast Guard Cutter Alert An Aerospatiale HH 65 Dolphin Helicopter So this is how they wash the Pinnacle windows
  17. Thank you for the great photos and what you saw and did . We're excited to be in the planning stage ! 👍
  18. The night time entertainment was Jose Sarduy - A Cuban pilot with the American Air Force . Being a Miami native I thought that the guy was pretty funny . Another bit from Youtube
  19. Lunch was the the Pinnacle I wish that I would have ordered Dive in Fries with the burger . Is that possible ?
  20. Breakfast at the Pinnacle A Full English Breakfast for her And I went light A little too light and I needed a visit to the Neptune Lounge
