  1. Ok, so I chose to do pre-paid gratuities when we booked so that’s taken care of.

So now I will put a $75 limit on the 16 year olds account. I already purchased and added the $75 cruise cash to the account a few weeks ago.

Then I will delete the 18 year old off the main account and create a cash account. Assuming I can do this online. The $75 cruise cash was also purchased and added to this account a few weeks ago.

    Does this all sound correct?

I also purchased $50 cruise cash for two minors on another booking. So I’m guessing I may need to inform the adult on that booking to add $50 limits to their accounts as well.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate all the help. I prefer to do my homework ahead of time so I don’t have to waste precious time on the ship dealing with these sorts of things

  2. Hi everyone,

We are taking two teens on their first cruise in less than two weeks and I’m hoping to figure out how to put a spending limit on the 18 year olds account. It let me set a limit for the 16 year old during online check-in on my phone, but didn’t offer it for the 18 year old. They both received $75 cruise cash for Christmas, and with this being a 3 day cruise we feel this will be sufficient. How do I make sure they can’t charge anything to our credit card and are only able to use their cruise cash?

If I put a limit of $0 on the 16 year olds account will it still allow her to use the $75 cruise cash I deposited in her name?

I’ve been reading through the forums and haven’t found any answers so I hope I’m not repeating the same old questions... (also I’m not sure I’m using the actual search engine correctly 🙄)

  3. Hi everyone,

I’ve been reading through the forums and haven’t found any answers so I hope I’m not repeating the same old questions...

We are scheduled on the 3 day Liberty cruise going to Nassau, where it docks overnight, in a couple of weeks. I’ve seen old FunTimes where they pulled out of Nassau at 5 and that was their formal night. Does anyone know if this is still the case being docked there overnight? Or will it be the last night which is a sea day?

Also, we will be going to Aquaventure at Atlantis during the day, and we are planning on coming back to the boat for dinner. Will there be any reason to get off the boat and do anything in Nassau that evening? Or is that a bad idea? We’re a family of four including two teenagers.

Another question I have is because of age, we have ourselves each booked with one of the teens only a couple of rooms away but we plan on letting the teens stay together while we stay together. (We have them scared into thinking they’ll get their freedom will be taken if they’re disruptive of other passengers). But my concern is not having access to the room I’m actually sleeping in. Can they make it so my card can access both rooms?

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide!

  4. I read somewhere else that its possible the pool will not be able to be used on the Eurodam the week of May 13 to Alaska? I hope they were wrong! Does anyone know anything about this? I understand the obvious turn off to the pool that is not covered and outside but what about the one that is under the cover? Wont it be like being inside? I really hope we have access to the pool that week, any info is helpful!

  5. We are a couple that will be taking our first cruise in May on Holland America on the Eurodam with stops in Juneau, floating around Glacier Bay, Sitka, Ketchikan, and Victoria (roundtrip from Seattle). After much research we have decided against the shore excursions our ship is offering.

Currently we are trying to decide if we will book our excursions now or wait to see what is available once we get in port.

In Juneau I have my heart set on seeing the Ice Caves if at all possible. Is there anyone in port that offers this at a lower rate than Above and Beyond Alaska? What types of excursions are offered in port? I believe we would prefer to paddle over to the ice caves, whether that be in kayak or canoe. Is there availability to rent these on our own to reach our destination? (Currently I am leaning toward the canoe and trek trip by Above and Beyond)

We are also looking to fish for halibut and possibly salmon in either Ketchikan or Sitka. Is it vital to book these ahead of time? We would prefer to do a half day trip in Sitka since we have more time in port but I am having difficulty finding anything online.

Any suggestions or tips are appreciated! Even for other activities or places not to miss in those ports

    Thanks in advance!

  6. we have some friends going on their first cruise on Carnival Pride on May 14 sailing. Will there be any groups on board this sailing? Any help would be appreciated!

I tried using the Theme Cruise website but it's not always up to date.

I also wasn't able to use the search function on the forum since I'm using my cellphone

  7. We have cruised in late Sept and early May to Alaska. Weather can very alot for either times, nice one day, rainy and cold the next.

I liked early May better as the days are longer and thus you can see more in the evenings. Sept. is better for visiting areas with ice, as May can prevent you from going in or getting close (to glaciers, Tracy Arm, etc.).

What about May makes it harder to visit places with ice? I have my heart set on visiting the ice caves at Mendenhall Glacier. Is it unlikely to visit there in May?

  8. Is chewing tobacco/snuff allowed onboard? Is it better to bring your own or is there a duty free sale on board that is a better deal?

I know it disgusts many people but my boyfriend is respectful about it and keeps it discrete. If necessary he can keep it to just our stateroom. But I'm assuming its probably ok on deck where smoking is allowed. We will be sailing on the Eurodam if that makes a difference.

Thank you for any help or advice. Just dont want to get sent to the naughty room for him bringing his preferred brand with him. Also, should it go in his carry-on or his checked bag?

  9. Is it possible or acceptable to tip your stateroom attendant (extra, NOT in place of HSC) with a gift card? I read this as a tip on another website but wasn't sure what the protocol was, specifically on HAL? It mentioned something like it may be a nice treat for them to receive a gift card for a place in port. Is this a possibility? Or would it be unable to be used since it can't be split up amongst the other staff?

And if it is a good idea, any suggestions of places in Seattle or Alaska that would appreciated by them?

Side note: I used the search function before posting this but it is possible I did not use the correct verbage as it did not come up with anything that was related.

  10. Verandah cabin category storage is usually the same (except some aft cabins maybe). If you google 4160 - Eurodam | HAL Cruiser information, you will find some good pics to give you an idea of storage. There are also other pics on that site showing storage.

I always take packing cubes. I find them very handy for hotel stays and for the shelves on the ship.

Thank you so much Kazu! I had looked on the "unmentionable" site but had missed that one. That is definitely helpful.

One other question... I understand we will definitely have our HSC at the end of our trip and I am budgeting for this. We have the Explore 4 package, will we have an additional service charge on top of this as well for our drinks?

Also, are the cabin stewards able to accept gift cards as an extra gift or tip?

  11. This is such a great thread and I am so thankful for it as we have never been cruising before...

What sort of storage (closet space/drawers etc) will be in a VE cabin with veranda on Eurodam? Is there any pictures maybe anywhere? I have heard that there is a decent amount of space but I'm not sure what I'll be working with. I like to unpack pretty early on and get things put away. Should I bring some sort of organization and if so what? Packing cubes maybe?

    Thanks to all!

  12. Good questions HermmyGranger

Which specialty restaurants aboard the Eurodam offer lunch and what is the charge? I had read somewhere that you can dine in the Tamarind for free at lunch...

What will be open and available to eat prior to dinner on embarkation day? We are first timers so we won't be invited to the Mariners lunch.

Is there any incentive to eat in any specialty dining on a certain night? I've read some ships offer a free bottle of wine, etc

Is there a certain day where tobacco products are cheaper to buy on board duty free? Or is it best (in my boyfriends situation he uses snuff) to buy it prior to and bring it on board and does it need to be packed in his carry-on?

Are there robes in the verandah rooms?

Sorry I keep reading things and coming up with more questions than I ever realized I could have!

  13. Has anyone ever done a half day fishing excursion in Sitka? We would really like to fish here instead of Ketchikan since we will have more time in this port. This will be our first cruise ever and are very excited about seeing Alaska!

I also have my heart set on seeing the ice caves at the Mendenhall Glacier. Does anyone know anything about kayaking out there or getting a guided tour there?

  14. My boyfriend and I will be on the Eurodam cruise to Alaska on May 13 and at the time of sailing we will be 29 and 40 respectively. We love getting to know new people and are both quite outgoing but am starting to wonder if we will feel out of place? I understand Alaska can gather a more mature crowd. Its ok if we are the youngest people on the boat. We arent partiers but are very much looking forward to doing some intense excursions.

I also was wondering, is there an indoor pool? I'm assuming it will be rather cold to get in the pool in Alaska in May?

  15. Hi all,

What a great thread! I havent read the entire thing but we will be in room 8021 on the Eurodam leaving May 13 for Alaska. This will be our very first cruise! I notice that we are near the elevators, will we hear much noise from the elevator itself? Also, I notice that we are directly under the spa (which at first I thought might be great seeing as it wont be too noisy above us). However, does this mean we will not be able to take the elevator closest to our room up to the Lido deck? Thanks for any and all information!
