  1. we're sailing on Connie on June 5th and have Ocean Liners booked, paid for and confirmed, for our anniversary on the 7th June. If it's not going to happen, I really hope Celebrity would let us know.

    Feeling a little disheartened.

I booked and paid for Ocean Liners for 29th May for my Birthday, and I am sticking my head in the sand and dealing with it as an when, which I have a feeling will be when we embark and it becomes clear it isn't possible.

And then I will go all American on them (this is not to offend, this is a compliment to Americans who tend to be far better at 'raising concerns' than us British :D) as I refuse to eat in Qsine again and we never tried Tuscan last time as the menu didn't seem worth the additional cost!

  2. I should imagine that many of the negative posts will be from those that have travelled many times on Celebrity, and/or have enough disposable income to be able to use other 'premium' companies where the ships are smaller and more exclusive, which then make other perfectly acceptable ships seem poor in comparison. While I am new to cruises (2nd one in May and is Celebrity again) I am an old hand in hotel stays and I know how I react if I go from a the equivalent of a W and then 10 days later stay in a Premier Inn - it's not always favourable!

And those that have been with a brand for a while will notice changes that will, in this economic climate, seem like cost cutting or a change for the worse.

I/m pretty sure that if you go onto one of the other 'posh' cruise line forums that are mentioned on here as being the dogs dangles, there will be the same sort of people complaining that that glasses are too small for their soft drinks :D

    • This is our first time on Celebrity, and was pleased to find a link in my Cruise Docs to order personalized sticky luggage tags from the cruise line (like the ones they use at the airports. This will be even better, as it eliminates the need to do anything else besides stick them on when we get to the port!

Sticky Labels aren't on offer to our booking, because of status or geography I'm guessing. There is a link to order, but it then states not available (with no reason)

  3. I'm a little OCD with mine, I cut them out, fill in any info them laminate them and then put in my nice plastic luggage tag holders I got on amazon

Sent from my STV100-2 using Tapatalk

I have a laminator, so I seal the tags, punch a hole in them and use a plastic tie wrap to secure them to the suitcase.

So I could cut them out then? I have the clear luggage tags, but they don't seem to fit the folded up tags (too bulky).

Guess I will give it a whirl, and if it doesn't work I will plead ignorance and ask them to put them on at the port :)

  4. I have flown with the little tiny stapler several times, last in March this year. EM

Both times I've travelled with one in hand luggage (through work) they've been confiscated. If I put in hold luggage, not easy to access!

  5. We have been sent our eDocs with the luggage tags on, and they have the instructions to fold the paper up and then staple/tape them up on your luggage.

Last year, we didn't get sent these (booked through TA) so the guys at the Port sorted it. I have looked and searched, but aside from the folded paper makes it a bit stronger through bulk, what is the reason for not being allowed to cut them out?

We were given some clear luggage tags, that if I could cut them down would fit really neatly in the tags, but don't if they are all folded up. The information is still visible? Would also mean we could put them on at the airport, rather than having to dig them out at the port as it suggests (and since you're not allowed to carry staplers on planes, a roll of tape takes up make-up space :D)

I saw posts about sticky luggage tags, but the paperwork suggests this is not a option now - does anyone know more about this?

  6. Discounts showing for Constellation on the Med cruise leaving Barcelona on 26th May. Showing as mostly 20% off, and reckons up to 70% off in Canyon Ranch (but as I can't see things or book online, not bothering)

Also 20% off Internet, but the cynic in me is thinking that the price looks the same as it did last week when I looked....

  7. We stayed away from cabs/taxi's on advice of the hotel staff in Rome, and from others that have done the journey. We took the train and then the shuttle bus from the train station to the port. I think it cost us about €40 total, and took the same amount of time as it would've in a taxi. Also meant no need for Valium to deal with Italian driving :D

The train is a hike along the concourse, yes, but the train was not busy when we travelled and the only hiccup was that it wasn't overly clear you need to get a ticket for the shuttle from a kiosk when you get to Civitavecchia.

As mentioned, you get a nice run along some beautiful Italian countryside.

We did consider the Celebrity transfer, but we'd been in Rome for a couple of days already and had seen the various points of interest so thought the €90+ each was a bit steep.

  8. When we were on the Reflection last year, there were more people in tuxes that we'd expected - especially on the second evening chic night. I think a few wanted to see what was worn on the first one, and then went all out once they'd checked the lie of the land :D

We never get to get truly dressed up now, and so used it as an opportunity to do so. I wore a cocktail dress for the first night, and full length the second.

We're taking formal wear this year - need to get wear out of the Tux!!

  9. My other half asked this of the room steward and was told its not necessarily the fire risk, its more the steam generation if it gets too excessive and is in the wrong place, it can set off the sensors which in turn creates a false alarm which they don't want in the middle of an ocean with several 000's of people.

Our neighbor recommended straightening irons with the widest possible plates and she uses those to 'iron' clothes. She has a set specifically for that purpose and takes a pump action body spray bottle with ironing water in if there are stubborn creases.

We sent anything too big or cumbersome to the laundry on board.
