  1. A simple solution is book cruises on other lines. (Carnival is the only one that blocks gangways) Carnival is know for their desperation of trying to get every last penny out of you, and it has been evident for years, as they force you in lines, blocking progress for the many who just wants to get a good seat at Sr. Frogs.

Not an issue on Princess. They do provide good training on techniques to avoid the vendors at some ports though so look at it as a learning opportunity...

  2. This is great advice. HOU is the closest airport from a Carnival cruise (unlike some other cruise lines that dock at a different port in Houston area). If Southwest Airlines is an option for you based on your home airport, they have good service out of HOU as opposed to other airlines. You will not be first off the ship with FTTF, but will have an early or late debarkation choice. Be careful in considering some recommendations on this thread because cruising in/out of Galveston is very different than cruising out of Florida because airports are much further away from the cruise port. Carnival recommends no flights before 1:30PM on debarkation day for Galveston cruises. You may be able to make a flight earlier than that, but unexpected circumstances could put you in jeopardy of making your flight.

Just for clairification, the "other port" is no longer a cruise port, handles just freight now. Cruise lines abandoned it in 2016 due to too many delays in the ship channel and the amount of time it took to clear Texas water.

  3. Report them without hesitation for safety reasons. Fire onboard a ship is extremely dangerous and the designated areas are positioned to mitigate this risk.

  4. No way... ...You couldn't make a 10:30 flight out of Fort Lauderdale which the airport is only 10-15 min away!! If you got off ship at 9:30

Plan for 30 min to leave ship and get thru customs (again being optimistic).Plan 75-90 min (best) to get to Hobby and 90-120 min(best) to Bush International. Then you have to factor in check-in, security, and getting to gate which they usually start boarding 30 min before departure

Houston is infamous for both it's traffic and never ending road construction. Risk is too high to cut it close, times given by previous responder are accurate but I'd probably allow at least another 1hr to 90 mins to either airport for peace of mind.

  5. They did leave at 9 not 10 as they were told. She heard at dinner that there were pipes leaking that had to be fixed. She said sailing away at night was absolutely beautiful.
Fantastic! If a ship is delayed it is usually due to a maintenance issue and although inconvenient to the passengers, it is done for their safety. These ships run pretty much 24/7/365 under harsh conditions so there are times things have to be fixed. Just ask the passengers of the Triumph several years ago how bad it can get if systems fail at sea.

Hope she enjoys the rest of her cruise.

  6. To me no , to her yes . She was asking me if I had read anything on here.
All kind of things can delay a sailing, they can make up the time overnight so the arrivals remain on schedule. Hope she has a great cruise, lots of things to do while they wait for sailaway

  7. Silly question, but why 9:00am? I'm sure there is a grace period if you're picking up a rental car. You could call them once you're in cell tower range.

But to answer your question, use the self assist and hope to make it without delay due to weather, customs, traffic or any number of things thst would slow you down. Good luck!

  8. Just to set expectations on what we've experienced with "hot" tubs on board ships we've sailed on. They could be called "warm" tubs at best. They're certainly warmer the regular pools, but are several degrees under what I would consider a hot tub. I'm sure they do this for a variety of reasons and I hope they help with your back issues

  9. Looks like its a block off Harborside, if you come in from Broadway which is where I45 ends, just take it slow and keep moving if you come across standing water (and try to follow a smaller car)

  10. How much water does it take to flood the island? We decided to make it down to Galveston Thursday for Saturday's departure. We are worried about getting trapped if Carnival waits to tell us anything about the cruise.

Harborside where most the parking is floods quick, parking lots are slightly elevated so unless it takes a direct hit, it's passable. If you're parking there us Broadway to 25th to access the pier instead of 71st (Harborside) if its raining hard. Most the low area is around the train tracks
