  1. I keep an eye on the pricing for the cruises I have booked, and check them often. My booked Oasis cruise went down 465.00 which was offered with the NRD option only. Since I don't book cruises to shuffle them around, and actually intend on taking that cruise, it was easy for me to switch. Had to pay another 400.00 to bring my original 100.00 deposit up to the standard 500.00 (which was no big deal for me, since I would eventually have to pay that anyway).

Then I was surprised to find out I was being given an additional 100.00 OBC. Soooo...I saved the 465.00 AND went from the 100 to the 200 OBC.

Maybe that does not work for everyone...but it sure works for me. ;)

Same here. Booked Adventure for June 2018 several months ago. Checked price again 2 weeks ago and it dropped almost $700 and I got the $100 OBC. Works for me!

    Us too!

Now that I think about it, I just remembered you from the roll call thread.

Swodog94, great review so far. I never would have known about the first person to Red Frog thing had you not mentioned it. Thank you.

JerseyshoreBruce, you trying to get to Red Frog first? Game on brother! Haha. Just kidding.

  3. I know you asked for recent, but we have been on 6 Pride cruises, 7th in Oct 2017. If the ship is on time the parking lot opens around 11:30. We have a 3 hours ride so I track the ship to determine what time to leave our house. When the ship is on time we arrive at the pier around noon. The first time we sailed we arrived a little after 11 and they turned us away telling us to return at 11:30.

You may know this but the cash line is much faster than the credit card line. The most cars we ever had in front of us was 1 while their were 4 lines for credit card. Enjoy your cruise!

How exactly do you track the ship? Is there a specific website you use? I ask because we are sailing on Pride next month and driving down from New York. It will be about a 4.5 hour drive and I plan to leave plenty of extra time for any unforeseen delays like traffic, flat tire, etc. as I am all too familiar with Murphy and his law. If time permits, we would like to stop for a relaxing breakfast once we are close to Baltimore. Any info is greatly appreciated! Thank you.

  4. They have moved the cabanas because they are working on the dock and there is now direct beach access. The beach and water are very nice and not rocky at all. I have never done the bungalow but with the cabana your get floating mats, use of snorkel equipment and a cooler of Evian water. We were just there on 7/5.

Thank you for the info! I've been searching for confirmation that the cabanas have been relocated. One question, is there still an "upgraded" lunch being offered to cabana guests? Have they moved the buffet area to the new location also? Just trying to get an idea of the new layout. Thanks.

  5. We're booked on the July 6, 2018 Adventure sailing. So far, only the cabanas are listed in the Cruise Planner, and have been since shortly after we booked, in April. From everything I've read, I think the bungalows would be the better option for us, so hoping they show up soon.

Anyone else with a sailing that far out seeing the bungalows?

We're booked on the June 22, 2018 Adventure sailing. As you stated, the cabanas have been available for some time now, the bungalows just became a available 2 or 3 days ago for our June 22 sailing. My guess is, they will become available for your sailing very soon.

  6. I've been wondering this myself. I managed to find two different maps of CC. It looks like the cabanas have been moved near the water sports beach. Notice number "19" in the second photo. (Sorry for the poor photo quality)

An any recent CC visitors confirm their location?

  7. Same experience as others on here. 2 adults 2 kids. 1 adult only needed to renew, 3 others applied for new passports. The 3 new passports arrived in exactly 2 weeks. Still waiting for the 1 renewal. It's been 4 weeks so far. This was all done at our local post office by appointment. Non-expedited.

  8. Thank you for all the suggestions in this thread to get discounted gift cards! I signed up for the DriveSafe app but don't see where you can enter promo codes. Can someone help? TIA! We leave for our cruise in less than 30 days and I didn't realize that I could discounted gift cards! I only owe gratuities and OBC for 5 so any additional $$ would be great!

From the app, in the top right corner click on the 3 vertical squares. A drop down menu will appear with "promo codes" being one of the options.

  9. I thought I read that the $500 cards have to be signed-for, while the $100 cards do not. Apparently that is not true. I have $100 cards arriving today, Signature Required.

Both $100 and $500 cards were emailed to me instantly and then I just applied them to my balance on Carnival website. Worked like a charm.

ETA: these were GCs from Allstate

  10. The only thing I seen that a PVP can do different then booking online is find rooms you like or prefer. I'm sure if you called and talked to them they might be able to work something out for the deposit. Never know till you try. But I needed 2 rooms one for my wife and I and one for our 3 girls. Because we did not want all 5 of us in one room. And that means no privacy for anybody so that would mean 1 bathroom to share and have to change 1 at a time or I get changed and leave the room so they could get ready. So we had 2 choices

First choice ocean view for us and them in an interior which had to be across the hall because of our youngest.

Second choice was 2 ocean view rooms with or without connecting doors.

I could not find either choice online so I contacted the same PVP I used before and he found rooms that didn't even show available not matter how many ways I looked them up. And we got 2 ocean view rooms with connecting doors. Which double our room space.

From my understanding if you use a TA you have to go thru everything with them. I'm not 100% sure on that. But if so I have no control of my booking which I don't like. And read most TA give out perks that you would not get otherwise.

I agree with PVPs having access to rooms that don't show available online. I tried every which way to book 2 specific connecting rooms for both Carnival this year and Royal next year and couldn't get them. Called and booked with no problem. By the way, have you noticed that several Carnival and Royal ships have balcony rooms that connect with interior? We're booked with this configuration on Adventure of the Seas next year and really looking forward to it. These configurations are very limited and often sell quickly. Couldn't get it for our Pride cruise this summer because we booked late.

  11. Great job! Thanks for sharing. I like the soundtrack choices too! Beautiful family you got there. Your son tackled that Guy's burger like champ! My wife and I are taking our kids (8 & 2) on their first cruise in August and very much looking forward to it. We've cruised several times before but we were just a couple of 20-something's that racked up huge bar bills each time. Can't wait to experience a cruise that will be more focused on showing our kids a good time. Looking forward to your future installments.

  12. Las Vegas is RUNNING away from the "family friendly" destination. It was a loss leader and saw a drop in revenues. While DCL does attract families, it is not 95% and there are Adult Only areas that are enforced. With only 4 ships, DCL has not yet installed a casino but with the introduction of alcohol into the Magic Kingdom now, things are a'changing in Walt's World.

Who said 95%? Not me. Perhaps you quoted the wrong post.

Yes, Vegas experienced a drop in revenue. Along with every other vacation destination due to 1) post 9/11 travel fears. Then 2) the housing crash of the early 2000's. It had nothing to do with the demographics they were trying to attract.

Also Disney World has been selling alcohol since way back when EPCOT opened 35 years ago. All 4 parks sell alcohol. This is nothing new. Magic Kingdom first offered alcohol with the opening of Be Out Guest Restaurant 5 years ago. To somehow assume that they would build casinos on their new ships because of this is a stretch.

  13. I am talking percentages. Over the course of a given year, over 95% of people that cruise Disney are families and that percentage is probably low. With Carnival, 17 weeks out of the year, consisting of summer break and holidays consists of 75% families. The other 35 weeks out of the year consist of 25% families. This would correlate to about 60% adults and 40% families over the course of the year, approx 1.8 million and 1.2 million using the 58 k per week that you stated.

In general, when you think of Disney, you think of Mickey and families and kids with smiles. Does anyone think of families as the first thing that pops in your mind when you think of Carnival?

Yes. In general when I think of Disney Cruise line the first thing that comes to mind are families. More importantly, the second thing that comes to mind is the outrageous prices those families happily pay to sail on their ships. These prices have CEOs of competing cruise lines foaming at the mouth. It is perhaps a business model that they are trying to duplicate. Parents' perspective of "value" becomes totally skewed when it comes to their children. They will pay almost anything if it promises to put a smile on little Susie's face. But until competitors can create competing I.P. (intellectual property), that will never happen for them. Dr. Suess, Shrek, etc. are no match for Mickey, Minnie, and the rest of the gang. This change in pool policy is nothing more than Carnival doing their best to play with the hand they were dealt. If the CEOs were smart they would be on phone with J.K. Rowling (or whomever owns the rights now) trying to secure some Harry Potter I.P. on board their ships. (Just take a look at the success Universal has had in competing with Disney in the "city that Walt built)

    Side note:

I think many would agree that the casinos on board ships are a cash cow for the cruise lines. If Carnival (or any other cruise line) announced they were considering closing their casinos and converting them to, oh I don't know, an indoor interactive playground for kids, there would probably be a huge uproar on these boards saying "this is outrageous" or "I'm taking my business elsewhere". Why then, does Disney not have any casinos on their ships? I'll tell you why. Kids man, kids! That's where the money is!

    Edited to add:

    Also something to consider:

Think of Las Vegas. A city that relies on tourism to flourish. Many decades ago it was considered an adult destination. Fast forward to today, the image they are trying to convey is that of a family destination. One that the whole family will enjoy.

  14. I'm sure your children had nothing to do with your decision to cruise, you wanted "your time" so you decided what was best for you and your husband. Before you jump on others, look in the mirror. And yes I'm a parent and have grandchildren, but if I wanted my children/ grandchildren to have a good time, I would take them to Disneyworld. {boy am I going to hear on this one}.

Agreed, Disney World is appropriate for children. It could also be argued that it is NOT a suitable vacation destination for the senior citizens. Walking long distances for multiple days in a row is something that many senior citizens can't handle. To solve this problem, many will choose to ride on motorized scooters in the parks and on the buses, boats, and monorails. The result of this is traffic-jammed sidewalks because scooters holding others up and forcing them to wait/walk slower. Or worse yet, someone's ankle being broken because of a careless senior citizen driving wrecklessly. Long waits for buses because scooters get priority boarding and each scooter takes up the space of three regular seats.

So if your line of reasoning regarding children on cruise ships was applied to seniors visiting Disney World it would mean that middle-aged families with young children should be of the opinion that the elderly should not visit Disney World. If that were the case, how would you take your grandchildren there?
