  1. Not really, for the vast majority of the time. However, don’t be surprised if you are approached for such things as dining packages and other for pay events on ship. Just say you are not interested and they will move on (This was my experience during lunch in the MDR on Anthem a year ago; I never ate dinner there so don’t know if it was bad then.) It is annoying but can become laughable if you go in with the right frame of mind. They are just doing their job, so please don’t get angry with them.

“Discussions” about the ports of calls are usually to discuss what you can buy there at stores doing business with Royal. Not much about the history of the port, for example. But, you may win free stuff if you go.

I usually say we have whatever they’re selling already and they leave us alone. Whatever works. Truthfully on 2 rc cruises. Never really bothered at all with sales pitches

  2. Yes I have my time dining. I think that is what is confusing me. I am used to set time and venue.

Will be same room every night may not be same table or waiter. I’ve never had a problem with getting a table at anytime but on the first night I become friend$ with the head waiter. Ask him for his card and he’ll give you one

  3. Looking to book a Canada/New England For next fall (Southbound 11 day Quebec City to New York) and currently looking at the 50% off second person deal.

Is this a good one? I am looking to snag a panoramic ocean view for my elderly mother since we can be inside and still get a good view from our room so I don’t want to wait too long, however wondering if this is one of the best promos or not (there are 30 hours left in the sale hence my question)

    Thanks in advance!

I booked when it was 30% off per person. I think that’s the better sale

  4. I don’t believe any balcony cabins on Oasis class are labeled “obstructed.” I think you are high enough to not have the lifeboats be an issue, so all you’ll be seeing is the sea! You are also the first balcony cabin forward. I hope this helped, great choice of ship and cabin! Have a wonderful time!

  5. But why not just take one 7 day sailing that goes to multiple destinations? Seems a lot easier...and exciting.

I guess what I should’ve said in the first post is it seems like a waste of money for the airfare for a 3 or 4 day cruise. Was just offering a suggestion. Next time I won’t.

  6. I have always meant to write a review "as soon as I get back from my cruise!" I even carefully take notes that I think might be of interest or help to others while on the different ships, and alas, after eleven cruises this is the first time I have written something.

We have sailed many times out of different ports into the crystal waters of the Caribbean. We have gone to Alaska (breathtaking-a must do if you have not); New England fall foliage and the Pacific coast with two night stop in San Francisco. They were all different and all amazing. We continue to find the people on cruises to be friendly and interesting, always a joy.

Now, as the "never have I" part. I must admit I have never stepped a toe in a swimming pool or hot tub on board. Nothing against it, we have a pool here at home, it just isn't my thing on a cruise. And yes, you can thank us now or thank us later, that means we NEVER hog those chairs by the pool-leaving them available from dawn to dusk for everyone to share.

We have never eaten at one of the specialty restaurants, or even Johnny Rockets. We find the "free" food plentiful and enjoy all of it. Is it gourmet every moment? No, but they prepare, cook, serve, clean up-what is there not to like? We do plan, however, to try a restaurant on our next cruise on the Liberty. Just as a treat! Can you recommend your favorite?

I have never gone down a slide, but I did enjoy the zip line on the Oasis, and my husband thought the zip line in Haiti was great fun. I have never tried the Flowrider, but it looks SO exciting and I always spend a lot of time out there cheering everyone on!

I have never done Karaoke, but I did sit on the floor on my butt and scoot across the ice rink during The Quest, we got extra points for that!!

You will see me dancing, quite possibly alone, at every place where there is dance music playing, yes, I am over 65 so that is allowed.....falls in the "crazy old lady" category.

I have never taken an "over the door shoe thingy" to hold all our stuff. I tried the magnets on the wall, sounded like a great idea, the next morning everything was on the floor? Taking a highlighter is great idea! I usually find it about the 5th day buried in the bottom of my purse or a suitcase along with my bathroom candle/battery light.

We don't buy the alcohol package, but thank goodness many do, it makes for a very happy group of people.

Happy cruising! Hope we meet you someday!

I find that some people who purchase the drink package are sometimes the best entertainment on board.

  7. Yes, that's what I'm talking about. It's a waste of time getting any hot beverage via room service. It's never hot enough. I pop a couple of tea bags in my pot at the buffet and fill it with hot water there. I'd prefer boiling water, but on US based ships, that's not going to happen. After all, they tried to make tea with cold seawater in Boston in 1773 and haven't done it correctly since.

  8. Actually, I DON'T want them to drink. I was being a bit sarcastic with my response. And actually, I don't want ANY of the rules to be broken....but I find I'm generally in the minority.

I travelled with my 17 year old son also. I don’t drink so he’s not tempted but we sat in the lounge while karaoke or a game show was going on. Underage at a bar I think some patrons might be uncomfortable but it’s tolerable on vacation which is fantastyland to begin with. While at home wouldn’t fly with me. Underage drinking should never be tolerated vacations or otherwise
