  1. Things can go the other way, too. If they are expecting fog they may hurry up and get to Tampa sooner. Last year we looked out the window the night before and we were already docked! They don't like doing this because they have to close down the casino etc. but it's better than having a delayed turnaround the next day.

So you might get lucky. And 10:45 is a bit better than 10:15, because when things are that tight, every minute counts… But if you can get your flight changed that would probably be a good idea.

Thank you for the information. That makes me feel better. I only plan on having a carry on bag so that should help. And I am Diamond with Delta, so if we miss the flight, they will get us on the next one. I'm not too worried now. Thank you!

  2. We are cruising the Dawn in January on a repo cruise from San Juan to Tampa. We are staying in an Aft Suite. I know we get priority debarkation if we choose to utilize the service. My question is: Will we have enough time to catch a 10:15am flight out of Tampa airport if we are first off the ship? The next non-stop flight home isn't until 7pm that evening. We would rather not spend the day in Tampa and we are looking to get home as early as possible. Any thoughts from those of you who have experienced this. Thank you all in advance.

I guess that we are screwed. We are on the same cruise, also in a suite and we have a 10:45 flight booked.

  3. Not specifically Dawn related by when reviewing possible excursions, we noted there were several "intro to scuba" type excursions and various islands available. Do you have to be scuba certified to take the excursions (it did not appear so) or do you at least have to have taken the written part of the certification class?

Thanks. We love to snorkel and wanted to try an "intro" scuba excursion, but not if we have to get certified before hand.

I am an assistant scuba instructor. The "Discover SCUBA Diving" excursion offered on the Dawn is for people who are not certified. Any 2 tank dive is only for certified divers. If you have time before your trip, it would be worth it to get certified. You would need to have your written exam and 4 certification dives completed to get you "card".

  4. Depending on your airline, use online check in and boarding pass on your phone. Make sure you download the airline's app before you board and set up your account. Take a carry on or use the mobile app to pay for luggage and use TSA precheck if you have it. It is well worth the cost, if you don't.

  5. The Haven spa suite will give you a very small balcony. However, it will give you access to the Thermal Spa (usually $400) and the Haven benefits (restaurant, lounge, courtyard, butler, concierge etc.). This is a top notch review of the Haven Spa suite and the Haven itself with plenty of pictures. The Getaway is the sister ship of the Breakaway.

  6. it is usually a year and half in advance so around December-January they should have the summer 2019 schedule released.

Is the Jewel an exception? I am hoping that they have the same Australia itineraries next year that they have for this year. I am ready to book one now. Could this be because of the Jewel taking over for the Sun for the summer or because of dock space in Sydney?

  7. If you are not a Diamond Aspiration player, the certificates are usually for an inside room for 2.

One other thing to add is that if you and spouse both get a certificate, you can combine them to get an cabin upgrade. My wife and I both play at Harrah's and get them all the time (can't use them all). We often get an inside and a oceanview offer and combine them into a Balcony

I have several cruise offers from various Harrah's properties. However, for me it is a minimum of a 4 hour drive or a flight to the closest casinos. I live in Alabama. I am Aspirations level 2. Would that get me an ocean view cabin? What level were you to get an ocean view cabin? I know that 7* usually get balconies. On top of it, my DW is Aspirations level 1 if that helps. I don't want to drive or fly that long for an inside cabin.

  8. I thought i explained fairly well, i guess not. I purchased 8, at a cost of $2000 added direct to my account, than the next day there was a credit for $1000. So 8 $250 certs cost me a grand total of $1000???????????

    I don't understand your math.

    8 certificates @$250 = $2,000

    8 credits @$100 = $ 800

    Total cost = $1,200

    What am I missing???

  9. First let me say that we probably have had more Havens rooms outside the Havens complex than inside. We are just off the Breakaway where we had a Havens spa suite (outside the main Havens complex).

That being said, it is a veeerrry long hike back and forth to the Havens and Posh Club from an aft room. Aft rooms have beautiful 180+ degree views which are wonderful ways of spending time at sea. You just have to be ready to walk the length of the ship. We would take the elevator up to the pool deck and walk to the private glass elevator up to the posh club (vs. walking down the narrow interior hallways).

I have an Aft-Facing Penthouse on the Breakaway for next June. Is it the same LONG walk on the Breakaway as on the Epic? Maybe I will switch. Also, I have a DOS on the Dawn. Considering that there is no Haven on the Dawn, is it still worth it on the smaller ships? TIA - Joe

  10. Yes to the promotional OBC being used to pay for the cruisenext. I'm not sure about the Haven certificate prices.

Yes. You can use non-refundable OBC that is given as a part of a booking promo to pay the balance of Cruise Next certificates you purchase on board.

Thank you both! I was starting to wonder how I would spend $500. Now I have my answer.

  11. The OBC is a figment of everyone's imagination!!

You are debited with the cost of the FCC; say USD250.

You are then credited with the "bonus"; in that case USD100.

That leaves you with a "bill" for USD150 that you have to pay.

By calling it OBC NCL is trying to fool you into spending something you don't really have.

You don't understand my question. I am talking about using the OBC that NCL gives me as part of the "Free at Sea" or now "Freedom Sale" ($500 for a DOS on Dawn). That is the OBC that I am referring to. Can I use that "non-refundable OBC" to pay the balance?

  12. Why spend the obc credit on drinks? Why not just leave it as a credit on your bill then only pay $150 for the cruise next certificate.

Can the OBC that NCL is giving as part of their promotion be used to pay the $150? And what is the credit given for the suite/Haven $500 certificates?

  13. Well, I don't portend to know everything, but then I don't comment on everything either. FWIW...care to explain and show examples of how knowing one person's bid can help another person...especially given that the cabin availability, pricing, etc varies so greatly from one sailing to the next?? Or better yet, please go back to Post #33 and explain just how knowing the bid ranges for Haven cabins in April can be helpful to emtthomas in bidding on an Oceanview or Balcony cabin in August.

BTW...Nobody was insulted (nice snark and lame attempt with the insult on my feelings, btw...I see your playbook is fairly thin), as a matter of fact nobody was even having this discussion. This thread stopped dead for nearly two weeks until someone dug it out (see post #25) and revived it by quoting someone in a provocative manner just to make an incorrect point. Had that post not been made, then NONE of the posts following would have been made either.

Not that I want him commenting more on this thread, but he is clearly wrong! Yes, over the LONG run, the information could be useful.

The information that would be needed are original stateroom type, upgraded room type, successful bid, ship and itinerary.

From that information, a statistical analysis could be done. Many of us would be able to determine if there was actually any pattern. The only other piece of information that could be helpful would be the month of the cruise.

This is coming from someone who has advanced degrees in math and engineering.

  14. Of course they have club soda: all of the fountain sodas are made from club soda.

Technically, fountain soda is made with seltzer water, not club soda. The difference between the two is that club soda usually contains minerals like potassium bicarbonate and potassium sulfate whereas seltzer water does not. Seltzer water is just plain water with CO2 added.

  15. It all depends on what else you would get with your Delta AMEX. I get up to 9 free bags, upgrades to Economy comfort or F/C and free drinks (alcoholic) with my Delta AMEX. So it depends on your other potential benefits as well. It would also possibly depend on if that trip would put you at a higher status level on either airline or get you enough miles for an award ticket.

  16. OK. I am a bit confused. I booked though CAS I assume. I used the phone number on the TR website. I got a 10% diamond discount since I booked an Owner's Suite. So from what I am reading here, the UBP is valid in the casino? I assume that I will have a drink card in the room. Can I only get bottles of water with the drink card in the casino since the UBP doesn't cover water? Not that it matters much since I get unlimited water in the room. I also assume that it would be better to wait and board with suite guests than with CAS. If it matters, I am sailing the Dawn out of Puerto Rico.
