  1. To add to Papflamingo's comment, this also would mean if you miss the connection, the airline won't be responsible to rebook you.   Their system would see it as two separate bookings and not their problem you missed the connection.  Also I believe the checked luggage may have to be rechecked between segments, depending on the airline.

  2. I'd highly suggest a private driver/guide for ports that are once in a lifetime type places.   We would never take a group tour to those type of places, that is far from our idea of luxury.  With a  private driver/guide, you don't have the same time restrictions at a stop, as you would a group tour and get a more personal experience.    Our TA has always booked the private tours for us, and if there was an issue with a tour, she has stood behind the booking and gotten us money back or a credit towards a future tour.   Regent is our current favorite cruise line, but the included excursions have little value to us, unless it's the Caribbean or other places we've been to previously.

  3. Yes spa treatments are unlimited (to those registered to the suite).   The service can be done in room or down at the spa and your butler will coordinate these with you on arrival.   Generally the head butler is assigned to this suite and will be at the ready at all times for any requests.

Dom is the champagne in suite.  No better options are included, but you can always request your brands of choice and Regent will either include it or tell you what the uncharge will be.

Unlimited dining reservations and also can order from any restaurant for in room service.   You also get private access the "the study" which you can see on deck plans is in the back of Prime 7.   There you can have custom chef dinners.

I continue to be a bit perplexed as to how so many seem to think of “kids” as being a homogeneous group. Kids cannot enjoy themselves on Regent.  Kids would be bored on Regent.  Kids can’t control themselves for long periods of time.  That is surely true for some people’s kids, it is surely not true for others.

When my kids were preteens, we started taking them on mass market lines, because that is what we could afford at the time and have taken them on quite a few.   Our little birdies have long since flown the nest, and my wife and I are at a point in our lives in which we are so blessed to be in a position in which we are able to cruise on luxury lines.  When we do, we so often express to each other how much we would love to be able to share the joys of luxury cruising with our (now adult) children. They would love and appreciate it.  But these children now come with their own little ones.

So how long must I wait to be able to give my kids this experience and share it with them?  When the grands are teens?  Some teens would have a great time on a Regent cruise.  Other teens would hate it.  Teens are also not a homogeneous group.  Or do I just have to give up on this idea?

Our grandson is now 6 1/2 and our granddaughter is 3 ½.  The little boy would do fine on a Regent cruise, and I would have no qualms about taking him.  The little girl- not so much.  If and when we and her parents think that she is ready, I will absolutely take the entire family on a luxury cruise and will do so without hesitation and without a shred of guilt.  Which, by the way, does not preclude me from taking the family to other vacation spots at other times, be it on land or sea.

Frankly, I think that calling people selfish because they think that what works best for their families does not coincide with what works best for yours is a bit over the top.  But call me selfish if you’d like, I really don’t care.  However, I respectfully suggest thinking twice before passing judgment about other people’s choices, provided that it does not affect you.

    Very well said!

No.  They are being selfish.  They are being "generous" on their own terms - usually a "take it or leave it" scenario.

How is it being selfish?   I grew up cruising on luxury lines.  At the age of 5 I took my first cruise, Royal Viking with my family to Alaska.  From there, my family would cruise at least twice a year along with other travels around the world.   This opened my eyes even at a young age to different cultures and history.  What better education can children have than actual experiences around the world?  A disney cruise does not offer these same experiences.  My sister and I always found things to do (despite the cruises not having kids programs) and made friends with the adults on board, where we'd end up playing cards or doing puzzles among other things.

If you want to avoid children, there are lines like Viking that don't allow people under 18 on board.    Otherwise be ready to see children on board a Regent ship.   Regent does cater to children during the alaska and holiday sailings, where they have kids groups with staffed supervision.

  6. There is at least one person who has stayed in the Regent Suite due to their prolific gambling across the NCL lines.   So depending on level of play, you can get some good bonuses.  With Regent they don't seem to highlight the benefits.  Maybe because much of the clientele have deep enough wallets to really put a dent into the casino benefits if they wanted.

  7. I'd speak to your butler about Sette Mare.   Not that they can make you a reservation, but they can speak to the maitre'd to coordinate timing.   Our butlers have been able to do this for us at all venues including Compass Rose.   Some butlers have insisted to walk us to each dining venue, so that's when we coordinate the timing and venue.  The butler walking us down, was never something we asked for but have sometimes taken them up on their offers when made.   If you want drinks before dinner, let him know where you will be and they can come get you at the venue when a table frees as well.

  8. When we visited Barcelona (2017) we had Amex Concierge book us a driver and guide for the day.   Normally we would have this booked through our TA, but Amex had a better deal.   The guide arranged all our tickets, the driver pulled up and dropped us in front of each stop, while the guide took us around.  Very well coordinated and efficient to see everything in the limited time we had.  I think it was a mercedes sedan they drove us in.   Try Amex to see their options.

How about getting room service delivered to the pool deck?

Something to consider...  On Regent and Seabourn, we've been able to coordinate private dinners on the top deck.   Regent will set up a table outside and you can arrange the menu, as long as you give advance notice.

This is something our TA suggested years ago and we've stuck with it when the itinerary/weather allow.
