1 year old trained??? Impossible. That is the average age of learning to walk. Even a 2 year old to be completely toilet trained is not common....still wearing overnites and pull-ups.

Actually, my daughter was dry overnight at a year and fully trained by 18 mo. My son was a little slower...fully trained by 2. They also are very tiny so they've always looked younger than they are. I get that there needs to be a certain standard though.

At Cape Liberty, how does luggage work in regard to dropping it off and the parking garage. Want to be prepared and also want the least possible hassle/walk/etc.

We have the unlimited wifi package. We have reasons for needing to be as connected as possible (I realize the wifi will possibly be spotty.) If I want to be able to receive iMessages at will (but not off the ship) what is my best bet on settings on my phone? Likewise, our kids have limited wifi so I'd like my tween to be able to communicate with us if she changes her plans on the ship, but I don't want her to blow through her 40 min with nonsense from home (she, unlike the adults, does not need to be connected outside of communication onboard with us.)

You really have to run the numbers on everything to see what works. Also, I've noticed that on the same cruise/same room, the price of kids alters so watch 3rd/4th passengers in a room.

Only 2 weeks and we'll be starting a new ritual.

 

 

 

We arrive 2 days early because we wanted to explore the city (Vancouver). Never been there and it looks fabulous.

 

Day of Cruise: Get to the ship as early as possible. First time as Elite so embarking should be easy (cross fingers). First stop: Cafe al Bacio for one of their wonderfjul coffees. Then time to get organized.

 

Check out our dining arrangements in MDR. Go to purser's desk to see menus for week and decide which

night(s) we want to go to specialty restaurants. (Check out specialty restaurants to see if there are any deals).

 

Concierge lunch in MDR.

 

Check out casino for next day slot pull.

 

Check out spa for any specials (won a free acupuncture session once).

 

When rooms ready, check out room. If luggage arrives, unpack.

Vancouver is one of our favorite port cities. We had several days there pre-cruise last year. I'd go back to Vancouver (and Alaska) in a second.

As an avid traveler and foodie, is happily consult with Celebrity on all matters of customer experience for free cruises. Guest experience is important and not easily understood through rating/comment cards alone as those statistically tend to skew responses.

In MY opinion, they should either expand the concept of Sushi on Five or open a new dining venue by the afternoon outdoor movie place.

Agreed. At Universal City Walk there's a restaurant, Cowfish, that does just this and does it reasonably well

I just got off the Summit this morning 7/30. The only specialty restaurant open for lunch was Sushi on 5 which had a la carte pricing. They did offer 20% off if you went to the sushi making demonstration. They were offering buy 1 get 1 at Q'sine and 30% of Tuscan for dinner.

Hoping this is offered on my cruise. How was this offered? Want to make sure I look in the right place/right time.

Funny my DH said the same thing when we first saw it! I think they just play recordings of the concerns on the movie screen.

Bummer. Sounds far less glamorous!

These are awesome! Thank you. Are the concerts such as Chicago, Earth, Wind and Fire, Journey real live in person with these bands? (DH said that would be "pretty cool."). Middle agers here... :)

Just got off the 7/16-23 sailing. The movies on the rooftop terrace included: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Boss Baby, Beauty and the Beast, and King Kong Skull Island. There were a few others that I can not recall at the moment. In addition to the movies, they also showed recordings of concerts during the day. I will try to locate the dailies and see what I missed.

Thank you so much. DH loves movies so he'll kind of go for anything. This looks like a nice mix of genre.

DH asked today about movies on the Summit and what to expect. We will be on the ship in Aug. thank you!

Day 5 - Bermuda - Part 2

 

This afternoon we had made reservations with KS Watersports at the Dockyards for a jet ski tour. It was just a quick walk from the boat. DD has been dying to ride on one after seeing them in Florida over the winter. I booked a single for DH and a double for DD and I. We all had a blast. I was a little nervous about DD falling off the back but she could hold onto a strap on the seat and the straps of my life jacket pretty easily. It was a little bumpy especially getting out around the cruise ships but DD loved it and kept yelling "faster! faster!" in my ear. We got up to around 30 mph. My parents were watching us from their balcony and we even gave them a wave on our way out of the harbor area. The tour stopped at the Vixen to feed the fish. It was later in the day and I don't think they were as hungry as they had been the day before. We then stopped in a little cove for some swimming. The cove was full of turtles and it was so fun to swim with them.

 

After the tour we headed back to the boat. My parents had planned to watch the violin duo at the coffee bar while we were out. We checked it out and they were still there so we had a drink and told them about our adventure. We then went back to the room and took our showers and ordered some room service for dinner. DH and I had planned to go on a sunset catamaran sail with Restless Native. Originally, we were going to drop DD at the fun factory on our way off the boat and my parents would pick her up after their dinner at Tuscan Grill. However, when we got the kids schedule that morning it said there were having a carnival that night and there would be no drop off between 7:00 and 8:30. My parents volunteered to skip their dinner at Tuscan Grill to take DD. We were not pleased with the schedule change and the lack of notice from the fun factory.

 

DD and DH had a hamburger and fries from room service that was pretty good. I had the club sandwich with fries which was also pretty good. The fires were hot and crisp but we could have used some extra ketchup. 4 packets are not enough for 3 people! My parents went to the main dining room for dinner and we dropped DD off with them around 7 to enjoy dessert. Then they went to the carnival where there was face painting and smores as well as other games and activities.

 

DH and I headed out to meet up with the restless native catamaran boat. It's the pink boat in the front of one of the pictures below. It was a nice cruise. They provide unlimited rum swizzles (which we thought were a little to sweet) and there was enough wind that we could actually sail. The guides gave us some fun history of Bermuda and I enjoyed sitting in the catamaran netting over the water. This was a nice excursion but had I know we would essentially get a sunset sail on the ferry the previous night I would have skipped it, especially given the fun factory schedule. Some of the other guests had been on the Restless Native snorkeling tour earlier in the day and that sounded like a lot of fun. I probably should have picked that tour instead of renting our own boat :)

 

After the sunset cruise, DH and I went back to the boat and had a coffee and sparkling water at the coffee bar. They also serve pastries and cake and we couldn't resist a little bedtime snack. When we got back to the room DD was still awake! Shame on you Granny and Grandpa! Where was this lax bedtime routine when I was young! DH and I went to bed right after DD. Today had been packed with activities and we were all a little tired. Plus we had another boat ride planned for the next day - but this one included a captain!

Was the carnival just for the youngest kids? We will be on the ship in two weeks with a 7 and 8 yo (plus an 11 and 12 yo) and I'm wondering if we should be prepared for this for the younger ones? And, if so, they need to have adult supervision it sounds like?

Right when you came out of the ship there were lines for taxis and shuttles. There were people there the assist you and group together people going to the same place. The previous day there weren't many taxis by the Summit so we walked up by the Breakaway and caught one a little easier there. It probably depends on the time you are leaving the boat. It was $9pp each way to $18 RT. I think its $7pp each way to Horseshoe Bay.

Day 5 - Bermuda - Part 1

 

Today's plan was to visit a beach in the morning. Originally we had planned to do Horseshoe Bay. But we heard from other cruisers that is was horribly crowded and all the chairs and umbrellas sold out early. Since my parents decided to take a rest day we decided to be more adventurous and go straight to Warwick Long Bay. We took a shuttle that was $9 per person. The beach was stunning and very quiet. There are no chairs or food but there was a bathroom. We had an amazing morning. There was a little seaweed and we saw a few Portuguese man-of-wars on the sand. We had bought a small collection of sand toys the night before in Hamilton which came in handy. The surf was a little rough so I wouldn't recommend this beach for toddlers by my dare devil loved it. I also did a little snorkeling but it was hard in the waves. We left around 12:30 to head back to the Summit for lunch at the buffet. There was a shuttle waiting to take us back which was quick and easy. They tried to find some more passengers at Horseshoe Bay but no takers so we have the shuttle to ourselves. I finally made it to the pasta station for lunch which was a little disappointing. The sauce just tasted like spaghettio's sauce. As usual the ice cream did not disappoint!

Where did you get the shuttle to the beach? $9 RT?

will be on the summit for our 6th cruise to Bermuda in two weeks, I am speaking about my experience on the Summit.

We will be too. My husband plans to wear khakis with polos/button down shirts (dependent upon temp in dining room) for most nights but will add a tie/jacket on the chic nights.

In a regular OV room on the Summit in Aug. We live in New England so no flights/luggage restrictions. Are there ample hangers in the closet for multiple ppl or should I just keep my stuff on hangers when I pack (and then unpacking is easy!)

I sure hope it is not mechanical/aizipod issue for those of us sailing on her in the next few weeks? Last time they had to cancel cruises to have it fixed.:o

Yes the welcome aboard Champagne/Mimosas are free to everyone during boarding. I often get more than one, there is a trick to that. ;p

 

Also go to the Captains Welcoming Toast in the Theatre, usually on the first formal night which more often than not is the 2nd night of the cruise. Plenty of Free drinks there! Go to both early and late seatings and you can really get hammered! :D.

 

You can also go to any Art Gallery/Boutique give away things where they will give you free champagne if you show interest. There are plenty of ways to get free drinks". Have fun discovering them all !! Just don't buy anything or that will make them not so free...:confused:

 

Note: The free drinks are not really of Premium quality, but it accomplishes it's goal.

Complimentary. Tell them to keep their eyes open, there are quite a few champagne giveaways around the ship! The Martini Bar also had some specials.

Complimentary? We have the premium package so it doesn't really matter to us, but my mom and friend are traveling w/us and don't. Any "free" drinks will be very much appreciated to help control $ for them.

Your clothes are perfect. Even formal night was more casual than formal. We were onboard around 11:15, were given a glass champagne and we were off to the buffet! Parking is $20.00 a day, and is right across the street from the terminal. We live on Staten Island so were dropped off but my neighbor used the garage. No problems. I believe it is indoor parking so the car will be okay! Any other questions feel free to ask.

Does everyone get champagne when they embark?

That's my thought too. Seems unlikely that a change back would be made so quickly. I think you'd need a few weeks/months/etc to assess the efficacy of the plan.

On a 7 night...this looks like a good change of pace, but not sure I can get DH to "risk" skipping the MDR.

Anyone have a picture of the wristbands? Sounds silly, but have kids with anxiety to prepare.
