  1. Is it just me or does a lot of older X ships have a certain kind of jank. i haven't sailed with them yet, but from the pics that i have seen it always seems like the bathroom is out of date compared to the rest of the beautiful ship.

Our cabin was #7003. I found this forward facing corner cabin was available several months ago, so we changed rooms and really loved all the space this cabin had to offer. The only issues were a sewer smell in the bathroom, toilet issues towards the end, and the AC stopped working all together on the last night. Bed was semi-comfortable, but that's coming from someone with back issues. This cabin was the largest I've been in and sharing the space was a lot easier with all of the extra space.

  2. Miss? No.

anti-consumer level is the same. Non refundable cruise deposit special deals have been around for a long time.

I have always been amazed that cruise deposits have been fully refundable in some markets for so long.

true. but i am conditioned to expect a refundable deposit from cruise lines.

one i have to do for business. one is vacation. i can live without a vacation.

  3. Best get on the roll call then. See if anyone can help with that little issue we discussed a couple of weeks ago... :D

X is ok, like everything in life it's what you make of it. :)

    on roll call already.

    I plan on having a blast b/c i am celebrating a special occasion :D

But I cannot continue to do business with them when they put in anticonsumer policies like this that directly affect me and is almost a sure fire way for me to lose money. I cannot do last minute bookings either.

Oh well. I'll just enjoy my trip and not going to dwell on this when there are so many other options. I am not loyal to one particular brand and will go to whoever gives me the best deal.

  4. Why? It's optional.

For me, the anchoring effect applies. seeing that lower price will almost always prevent me from booking as I will want the lower price but with flexibility. can't helped but feel jipped.

I am a millennial and we need flexibility as we have busy schedules (well the working ones with disposable income). so i don't foresee how this will grow x's market in the direction that they want to.

I made one booking and quite frankly it will be my last (will do charters with x through a diff company tho assuming i can rebook w/ them). I will enjoy my cruise tho with x :D and soak it up as it will be my last commercial cruise.

All these rigid rules don't sound like modern luxury to me. #justsayin

  5. In general, you would get a more accurate answer asking your supermarket check out person a question about celebrity policy than you get calling celebrity.

What? Then they need to hire better people...if they cannot clearly and accurately promulgate their policies they need to fire those ppl or retrain them

I called on Oct 31st and they said that new bookings on Nov 1st would be non refundable. I am glad they changed their policies last minute.

  6. The one thing I can offer as further advice is to make certain you get your Platinum perks. We kind of had to remind them a bit for some things... for example, nobody told us where to go for Platinum disembarkation - I will make sure to be clearer on that next time. We had to ask for the free laundry bag and free water (no biggie, but why make me ask?) We had to ask, and be clear in asking, where the Platinum line was during embarkation (nobody is holding a sign that says "Platinum" like they do for the Haven). We did have our meal coupons/etc waiting for us, though, so that was good.

hmmm....you would think that wouldn't be an issue for haven stayers.

  7. Look at the Haven prices for the Dec 9, 2018 Escape 12 day SC I am booking. You could have 3 cruises in balconies for the cost of one in a spa suite. Prices are just getting insane. I normally book an H6 aft suite, but it's 5599 p/p, so I will pass this time. I have cruised a couple times in balconies, and they are really pretty nice. I think I'm going to take a B6 (large balcony). That location on deck 9 should be really nice and quiet.

      • Inside
        from $1,029
      • Oceanview
        from $1,299
      • Balcony
        from $1,499
      • Spa
        from $1,709
      • Mini-Suite
        from $1,699
      • The Haven
        from $4,599

I assume that is price/pp, correct?

  8. I used the correct word for my meaning. immunosuppression isn't an age specific condition which was my intent.

As improbable as it may be to have a single case of a food born illness, until the exact cause is known, it would be unwise to rule the possibility out, especially when thousands of lives could be at risk.

I'd imagine the cruise line would be interested in making a definitive determination, only absolving itself once it has been established to be unrelated to food quality.

those are 2 important risk factors that i was mentioning.

they most likely don't run the tests to see the exact bug b/c the management is the same.

  9. Two things can be true at once.

Read about food based illness. https://www.cdc.gov/foodsafety/foodborne-germs.html or this article, http://www.nytimes.com/health/guides/disease/food-poisoning/overview.html

It isn't uncommon for food based illnesses to affect one person, especially a child, the elderly or those with immunosuppressive conditions.

It is likely if it were a something in the food provided on board, more people would be ill but the fact none came forward is meaningless. Someone else may have had lesser symptoms and was willing to ride it out. The lack of any additional patients is not indicative of source, cause or responsibility.

although your scenario is possible, it is not likely. lots of people on these cruise lines are over the age of 65, meaning that their immune system is already slowing down, but not quite to the point of immunosuppression. It is called Immunosenescence. Also, a lot of people over the age of 65 have conditions that could take them down really easily, i.e. CHF, CKD, etc. they are very sensitive to fluid changes (like with diarrhea) and can require hospitalizations. so i would expect someone else to get sick too if there was food poisoning.

so, it could be that there is a single portion that got contaminated. but that is HIGHLY unlikely.

there is a lot of details that the OP is not telling us. I will end with this, the treatment plan is frequently dependent on cooperative you are, esp in a simple case of dehydration due to gastroenteritis/diarrhea
