  1. For anyone interested, there are no Flam railway tickets available to pre-book on 17 July which is the date we are in port. The P & O excursion is also wait listed. If you want to pre-book the railway tickets, you have to do so a long time in advance.

  2. We are on the same cruise on 14 July. I suggest you do a fair bit of research on excursions. Nearly all are much cheaper if you do independently rather than through P & O. We have booked a fjord safari in Flam and a trip to the glacier in Olden. Intend doing the funicular in Bergen but no need to prebook at all (you gain nothing) and it looks to be a short walk from where the ship docks. All of these are cheaper if done direct.

  3. Think this depends on which part of the county (or indeed city) you live. P & O prices are very much on a par with those in our local pubs (we are in north London). However, pubs to the west of London (around Richmond/Twickenham for example) are considerably more expensive.

  4. Thanks for all your suggestions. I have had confirmation from P&O that we arrive at 8 a.m. However, no word as to whether we tender or dock, so a 9.45 train journey (the only time available) might be a bit risky if we have to tender ashore. Am leaning towards booking the trip with P&O (against my better judgement) just to be sure we don't miss out completely.

  5. I am thinking of booking the Flam railway online (not through P & O). However, everyone else seems to have had the same idea (and there appear to be 2 other ships in port that day too). The only slots left are 9.45 a.m. or 5.45 p.m. I don't want to run the risk of booking the 9.45 tickets, only to find that the ship hasn't docked yet! Guess it's my fault for not booking the tickets sooner, but since we aren't sailing until 14 July, I thought we had plenty of time. Unfortunately, one website website just has a "n/a" against our particular cruise arrival time, while another says 8 a.m. We might have to resort to booking the excursion via P & O, which is not ideal as the cost will be far more.

  6. Having called at all of the ports you mention, I can remember that on Mykonos the ship docks a fair way from the town centre and we used the ship's shuttle bus. On Santorini, you will be tendered ashore as they do not have a deep water mooring for cruise ships. The only port we booked an organised tour on was Athens but you should shop around as P & O charge a fair bit more than equivalent tour companies in port.

  7.

As has been mentioned, P&O will sell the cruise through these companies cheaper than their own site. Also for fly cruises these companies use low cost airlines which can turn out cheaper than the P&O flight.

Actually, when we booked with an agent for a cruise on Oceana, our flights were with BA. I have never booked a cruise through an agent and flown with a so-called "budget" airline.

  8. Am I right in thinking that P & O release Saver fares 90 days before embarkation? I am not fussed about a particular deck or cabin, so would it be worth me waiting until then to look at prices? I am interested in the Norwegian Fjords cruises next July.
