  1. I am scheduled on the Epic starting May 5. I had purchased the UUDP and had gone in and made reservations for each night. Looking at my vacation a few minutes ago, the reservations for Cagney's have been deleted and Cagney's doesn't even show up as one of the dining choices. I noticed the same thing happened with Shanghai last week but I did not have reservations there. Does anyone know what may be going on? I can certainly make other arrangements for those nights but I was looking forward to Cagney's.

  2. I had purchased the UBP because I wanted to feel free to try different drinks without worrying about the cost. I usually balk at the drink prices. I too had thought about adding OBC for drinks but I know me. I would end up not buying the drinks because I know if I don't spent the OBC I get it back so it is really no different from paying as you go. With the OBP the money is spent. That is a sunk cost. There is no chance of getting it back if I don't drink. All that would happen is that the Welcome Aboard drink I always have would be costing me almost $450. That gives me the incentive to try drinks I would have never purchased otherwise.

  3. Woohoo!! Thank you everyone. I will try downloading the bartenders guide. Should present some ideas. I have in the past asked bartenders to surprise me with something melony (may not be a word) or fruity and have had some wonderful drinks. Trouble is I usually have trouble getting another one especially if the bartender is no longer there because it was something the bartender just pulled together for me.

    Thanks again,

    Jim

  4. I have been following the UBP threads in relation to the change in drink menues. It sounded like at least initially bartenders were happy to serve drinks from the old menus. Now that the new menu has been in place for almost a month I was wondering if the bartenders would still make drinks from the old menus. I hope so. I have been making a list of the drinks on gambees site to try since I bought the UBP.

    Thanks, Jim

  5. Wow! I didn't realize they issued the debarked tags this way. Other cruise lines I have been would deliver your luggage tags the day before we were to debark. I will be on NCL transportation when I debark in Rome. How do they ensure ensure their transportation leaves and arrives to the airport in time for 12:30 flights? It would seem if debark times were luck of the draw of what is available when you pick up tags transports could end up waiting for people who ended up with later debark times.

  6. Never hurts to call and check. I was recently able to pay for an upgrade from a studio to an aft facing balcony and was offered the free UBP and UDP. I had already purchased these items but I was able to get a credit for them since I was provided the promos. Made the out of pocket cost about $800 for the upgrade on a week Med cruise.

  7. Thanks everyone. I will be joining from Rome and I know last time in Europe Pepsi was not to be found and Cokes almost required a second mortgage. Sounds like my best bet is, as was posted, to have the room steward clear out the fridge and buy some through the mini bar. I much prefer fountain Pepsi over canned but going to one of the bars at midnight in my jammies to get another Pepsi may not be well received so I am probably best to keep a few cans in the room.

That said, if I did it once I could probably get the other passengers to buy my Pepsi for me just to keep me and my jammies behind closed doors.

    Thanks again,

    Jim

  8. I did a search but did not find anything on this specific. On other cruise lines I have been able to pre buy or purchase once on board a six pack of soda to be delivered to the room. Is it possible to do this on the Epic? If not, how many Pepsis are typically stocked in the room as part of the mini bar setup? If nothing else I can have the room Steward make sure the mini bar is kept stocked every day.

    Thank you for your help,

    Jim

  9. Hello,

I am on the May 6 Epic sailing from Rome. It is my understanding that the main embarkation port is Barcelona and that most of the passengers embark there I am wondering with Spa or Posh passes if there are passes reserved for the passengers that embark in Rome. I understand the passes go pretty quickly so unless they hold some back it would be impossible for passengers boarding in Rome.

    Thoughts anyone?

    Thanks,

    Jim

  10. One other thing to consider is that at dinner time the buffet restaurant (drawing a blank on the name) becomes a regular restaurant with service just like in the main dining rooms. The menus are usually different but the food is still good. The great thing about this for the odd dinner during the week is that the service is usually a bit faster so you can get out sooner if the little ones are beginning to droop a bit.

  11. Since the OP didn't say, I am not sure regarding the starting and ending ports. I know I have been on cruises that began in Seattle and ended in Vancouver. I guess my point is if the cruise is originating and/or ending in Vancouver and the OP is flying back into the US wouldn't a passport be required? I think the Birth Certificate can be used if the cruise starts and ends in the same US city.

Sorry if I am confusing things.

  12. It sounds like you are getting some great advice on compromise. One thing you may also want to consider is staying away from the mdr on elegant night. For cruise casual as long as your family is not trying to go in a bathing suit you will be fine. At least that way they do not have to get dressed up.

I understand being painfully shy so it does make it harder but if you want to go on your own they will usually have smaller tables set aside so you are not right next to someone. You can then eat and people watch.

One other thing, if you want the elegant night experience take an elegant outfit, go to dinner then have your picture taken at all of the photo stops. I know if you were my daughter and I saw your pictures looking so beautiful that would be something I would Want to share and would make the effort to dine like that once or twice during the cruise. It is such a small price to pay for the experience with a daughter who will be out on her own before they know it. For what they get in return it is a steal!
